This is definitely different than the solo queue meta of 1st man pushing up, staying 1st man, getting married, starting a family, and retiring as 1st man
The layering aspect confused me a little, as I often find myself scoring redirects or demos due to that positioning. While I also find myself getting beat, I don’t want to give up the ability to cheat past tm8 with ball for either demo or redirect. How can I avoid layering and still set up those plays?
@@jacksonrolles2706 My assumption would be to only go for those as the first man, after your challenge/50/make your play. That way you're already up there. The 2nd man can go for the ball, while you demo or get an opening for a redirect.
Showed this to my friend and he IMMEDIATELY was everywhere he needed to be. I owe you money for explaining to him what I could not. Good lordie. My whole team is getting to Champ by next season at this rate.
I've been looking forward to this video ever since the announcement on GoldenLight's channel. Glad these ideas are being shared by such a big creator. Good job Jonk. :)
GoldenLight is the BEST at this kind of rotation. Genuinely go check him out to learn more about how to play 3s with all of the pro content he offers FOR FREE. He is basically shares a huge portion of the brains behind this and I didn't notice him get any of the credit he deserves. I wanna see him grow
Been watching Goldenlight tips videos for a while now. Really happy to see these ideas getting more views. Hopefully will change solo queue ranked for the better soon!
FINALLY! I played a great session last night and never once got mad even when losing. The reason i didn't get mad is because now I KNOW what to do so when I lose I KNOW why instead of being super confused and not knowing anything. Always played 2s but its nice to be able to play 3s with champ and gcs now. So much fun
Big thanks over to @JonkRL and @thanovic for showcasing some of our concepts. Wish I could've had this years ago on my channnel man damn these editors do wonders. (guys I think we found the editors we need). @Thanovic can you lend me your editors once in a while LMAO Was honestly quite surprised Jonk was putting out some of these trade secrets from our program. Even then, I tell you with 1000% certainty: This barely even scratches the surface.
Great video. The thing about these theories (great as they are) however is that especially in solo queues you are largely at the mercy of your teammates. If they don't have this awareness, skill or just don't care all of this goes out the window. There is simply no accounting for the randomness of teammate behaviors in solo queues. You either need to get lucky and get the right teammates, accept being stuck on defense 90% or be plain good enough that you can carry them to victory.
@@russallen2011 Yup same. Because it's pretty much a guarantee that your third man will just Leroy Jenkins after the ball. Heck even as first man you're never sure what your second or third man is going to do. And even as third man I have lost count how many times I've seen the first man go all the way back, leaving me free to go on the offensive, only to have them grab corner boost, turn around and go immediately on the offensive again as well, leaving our net completely exposed.
We (the youtube viewers) have missed you! This is such a useful guide as I don't really know how to play 3s without friends. Thank you, no one has explored this in detail to my knowledge
I've always struggled with one thing when it comes to both 2 or 3's. That is knowing where to position myself. I litterally have zero clue where i'm supposed to be. If i tried to be second man, the ball would always just go over my head. Try to act as the first man, i don't really have that ability to pass or threaten an attack. But playing as a natural third man is more my style. The problem was, i was almost always playing like a third man's positioning... as a second man. Like, on the other side of the pitch almost layering
was watching this on my TV but I'm 2 minutes in and I feel the need to leave a comment on the editing. This is the best editing I've ever seen in an RL video. This is what psyonix/epic should strive to achieve with their non-existent content. Fantastic
Thanks for the video! Nothing more to say, I'm just gonna share this video to my friends and hope I wiil finally not be the only one to understand how to play 3s
Awesome research and editing ! This video is a gold mine of advice. My wife and I have been getting into 3s lately as an alternative to a very frustrating high champ 2s environment ! Hope we can bring some of that theory to our game
Finally facts to analyse team replays! Even tho I play since season 1 and I peaked 1700 in 2/3s I learned something! Great Video! It filled a huge hole in the space of content creation!
Great video! I highly recommend people going back and looking at the 2nd man role, as I find that it can probably be one of the hardest things to work on, and a high ball is often "good to go for" even if a 1st to third rotation is a better move.
Finally a good 3s video. Hopefully more people see this instead of constantly being too close to the second man as a third man. That's the most annoying part about solo 3s
Love how informative and well edited this is, makes it easy to understand with the visuals Genuinly realised how little I know about how to play 3’s the right way… might need to get some coaching now
Watched this video and got inspired to play some 3s. immediately after watching this video I went on a 10 game win streak that was only ruined by a 3 minute OT loss
Hey Thanovic, thank you for this in depth Video. I do have a question about high rank matches tho. When I‘m 1st man and lost a challenge, the opponent is starting a counterplay (let’s say from the wall), when should I go for a demo on him, and when not? I do that quiet a lot, and my team gets often rewarded for it, yet I do know that I sometimes mess up our rotation, since I‘m rotating back on the same lane where the 2nd man is meant to challenge. Any tips on this one?
I think this is just a feel thing. If you think you’ve got him do it, if you’re team needs a big play to happen look for it. If there’s no chance for it rotate normal
7:14 in this instance, 3rd man who are diamonds-GCs would rush in and just smack it with no plan than spam “TAKE THE SHOT” so… that’s about more than 60% of the games possibly even more
I love threes and i agree it does not get enoughlove however from a neutral stance i see that some people may think that 3s are to chaotic and messy so players that start with 1ons or 2s they will enevitably be less comfortable in something like 3s
Question: on question 1, i feel like Jonk pushing that spot is not wrong as he should've been the 2nd and Svebby needed to be 3rd. Svebby was rotating so Jonk would be faster as 2nd anyway. Is this not the case?
Agree 100%. Before he pushed up he must have seen Svebby heading towards own left corner thereby leaving him out of any offensive support. So correct decision to push up as support for first man chasing. Unlucky first man is not able to send a pass in his direction and instead loses a fifty he ends in with that cut in towards goal, which should be fine as team still have third man in the back. So yea... a bad example of someone doing anything wrong. If anything I'd say second man could have been a bit closer to the play instead of reducing the speed he had just gained. If he had maintained momentum, first man (if aware, and instead of the cut in towards blue's goal) could have sent ball with small angle into back wall as a risk free pass. First man must have seen both blue players that were back defending goal line layer and their third was full throttle going own left corner.
@@sholonkerz6751I think it's a question of play style. The guy clearing ball from own net and chases after the ball is obviously signalling 'let's try to hold on to ball possession". With no one supporting that hunt for ball possession it will most likely leave him in a 1v3 situation and soon after have a possible outcome where 2nd and 3d are caught in a 2v3 situation. I think the wrong move in this example is first man not trying to pass mid to 2nd man pushing up. Instead he cuts in field and goes in a direct line towards goal trying to win a 50 with 2 opp. ready for him....
@@Sylles_far The first man's goal is to beat the opponents and force a bad clear. Trying to hit it middle wouldn't work here because the other team has all three of their players back on defense which means the middle is already covered. I will say this positioning isn't a complete breakdown since it's the 3rd man pushing mid instead of the second.
the video is so well made Thanovic! i think the text shouldnt slide in, maybe just fade in instead, since its weird hearing you say something but not being able to read it right away since the text is moving so fast
i wish i could solo queue 3s, but i can barely handle one ball chaser on the same team. having 2 of them on the same team just tilts me because i usually left back in a 2v1 or 3v1
Im just happy when my mates dont stop under the ball after missing it the first attempt them proceed to flop like a fish trying to hit the ball any old direction.
That's a very interesting and useful video but as a low Diamond player, I think trying to make this work is hurting my gameplay and my mental. I'm not one to blame my teammates for my losses but when it comes to rotation, people at this rank are simply unpredictable and that makes it extra difficult.
@@treylord yeah those ranks are chase heavy. It sucks but until you have the mechanics to just steamroll everyone, YOU have to play the 3rd man position a lot. Just have fun man and enjoy the climb! I’ll see you up here in the gc2 hell soon enough 🤣
If your gonna q 3s with this mindset, just be prepared to be 3rd man forever. all of these tips are corrects and find, but one major issue with it is that it works with the assumption that your teammates will be doing the same thing (which is not gonna happen in any rank lower than GC3)
Question about the quizz around 15:55 my answer was that jonk was in no mans land. I understand that as a 3rd man he pzshed up too far but isnt it his teammate who should have taken 3rd man position so that he can push up field? He was already back and his teammate was on his way back so isnt his teammate going all the way back and then turning cutting him off?
The dude out of frame filled the spot junk was supposed to be at so it was actually junk’s fault. If junk rotates there his teammate would react to that and easily have been spaced out to the weak side zone on the right
I don’t wanna make it sound like I’m a pro but what if your playing with your friends and they aren’t that good skill wise, is it then alright to rotate differently for example jumping regardless to save the ball when it’s not ur turn but just in case they miss the save😂😂😂😂😂or not shooting/jumping or aerialing at all when the ball is clearly yours to shoot but your teammates are platinum/don’t care and will try shoot every pass or shot opportunity and will “ALWAYS” jump regardless if they’re half ways behind the field or sitting right in front of the goal awkwardly (basically about to block it) so majority of the time you just stay down half flip back to defence cause you know better and don’t want to double commit😂😂😂 or another one jumping in front of them when an attacker is literally walking the ball down the field because you know the earlier you can challenge the less chance they can be more threatening (eg. blocking more angles of the goal they have, 50/50 the ball out of a threatening play etc). Basically I just want to know is this alright doing weird rotations/transitions when your playing with lower ranked players 😂 great video btw😂😂
This may seem like a foolish question, but what should you do if the play develops slower than you expected it to in a defensive rotation scenario. If you're 3rd man and it is taking forever for the play to even get to your 2nd man, is it smart to just sit and wait or should you try to grab another boost pad? Is there anything you can attempt to do to help the play develop?
3rd man doesn’t always have to sit all the way back, they can actually become a passing option on the weak side by pushing up (when it is smart to do so) and becoming ready for a pass and also if the ball even just comes to that side now you’re first man.
If you have a decent amount of boost then you can literally just park your car and wait for something to happen, which I especially recommend when youre playing on front post. If you're at like 12 then you can use that time to grab some boost.
I just wanna talk about Q1, I feel it's kinda a trick question. U see Cosmik hit the ball and go upfield and be 1st man, u also see Svebby in the back corner doing a 1st to 3rd man rotation, which means we're 2nd man and Svebby would be 3rd man on the right side of the field. In my mind as 2nd man we should indeed be more to the left side of the play (which I thought to be the correct answer since Svebby shouldnt be anywhere close to the play), but when the clip plays on it seems Svebby did a strange u-turn to be 2nd man and is standing next to the wall? Am I thinking wrong or can anyone help? (--> btw I'm GC2 in 2s and GC1 in 1s, trying to get into 3v3)
I feel like this is like a commed thing that we don’t know about because without comms I’m filling that space too but knowing he’s turning around with comms I’m dropping out of the spot. And what’s your 3s rank I’m GC1 in 3s(not yet because placements but I’ve been gc1 in 3s for 3 seasons in a row)
On question 1, why would the man going back for boost once 1st man started attack not mean Jonk should have pushed up to 2, leaving the guy going backwards for boost as the 3? Genuine question.
@@sholonkerz6751 So in this case is it better to not have that attack in order to preserve spacing on the right side? Trying to learn and maybe break bad habits.
@joshwells6847 correct, since this is a break out, you haven't established pressure yet, so it is better to play to receive than the try and force it middle. Now if it's a 2 on 1 or your first man clean beat 2 of their players, then you can go mid to be ready for the pass. He's a bit toxic but there's a coach called GoldenLight here on youtube that goes over a lot of the stuff discussed in this video in more detail.
