I just realized the reason Ingressus was so skilled was due to the Voltaris being in low numbers, that meant that every single one of their warriors had to be elite. I think one Voltaris could take on like 5 human soldiers
What I love about the duel of Mt. Velgren between Ingressus and Achillean, is their voices. They don't have grand, deep, or gravelly voices like Optimus and Megatron. They sound like young adults in an argument, trying to make the other see through one's eyes. 53:30 I believe Voltar doesn't just play the wielder's memories 'directly'. I think it's like a camera that infinitely records, so conscious or not, it'd hold events and situations like this. But that's just my theory. A FILM THEO-
This video shows the character we know and love the Deathsinger or Ingressus Voltaris, in a whole new light. Might I say though I love Ingressus getting stomped on by derp and the warden. Great video though! I love this, and I hope you continue making documentaries of Songs of War!
Two things: This was amazing :3 I love your voice You genuinely gave me every reason why i'm so hyperfixated with Ingressus- and you kept my attention all the way through (which is stupidly rare 😭) so well done for that :D
This is a really good analysis! Glad to see the community is still going strong despite the cancelations. I remember reading the script shortly after it was released way back in 2020 and recently I've reread and rewatched the entire series and my god it's still as good as I remember. It really shows the quality of the writing.
Thank you for reminding me that Ingressus is a great character and the best part of the whole story. I have so many problems with the script in so many other areas but I don't think my mind will ever change on him.
This is a masterpiece! Although I don't know English very well, but Songs of War have become more than just a project for me, as has Ingressus himself. You've made all the material very clear and opened up a lot of new aspects about the character for me. Keep up the good work! Thanks to you and the wonderful sow content creators, the fandom will not die. I bow low to you
Things I noted as I watched this for the first time: 5:15 I see you've pulled an Achillean 13:02 Finally someone mentions Voltar passing on memories (and possibly memories of fighting experiences) between Masters, I've thought about if this might also carry on to Senn lol 19:47 Yeah, like the Champions or _dragons_ (are we all forgetting how he really does not like dragons) 21:41 how couldn't he see the yellow markings (also I was just about to mention the parallel but you beat me to it) 22:44 hehe _death_ stare 23:10 that was probably the one smart decision Thalleous ever made (saving Senn was a spur of the moment decision) 26:11 Welp you got me 27:30 yeah, Sulliman your screwed 29:24 how did I not notice this? Senn and Ingressus are literally my two favourite character in that order 35:04 thank you for mentioning this! 38:55 didn't we all? 40:01 The horse that is never mentioned again 42:01 if Ingressus was anything in that moment, a trooper is definitely it 43:56 adding on to what you said before, this was probably the one moment in _years_ that he has been able to fully open up to _someone_ 45:12 wait, would that mean that Achillean could have been the only thing that reminded him of the name at times 45:19 you got me x2 46:27 yep definitely 47:36 my personal theory is that the sunset thing was something Dominus said 53:34 idk, maybe the flashbacks don't necessarily need the Master to be conscious. 54:30 maybe he was too weak to use it/the wound was too bad for Protoheal 54:45 honestly, maybe Staff-memories are distinguished from those of the current Master. Anyways, THIS IS SO GOOD! I've wanted character video essays for a while now, so thank you!
@@CK-Voltaris thanks! It was fun to write and gush about these characters for once. (Also as a person who conveniently has Senn as a favourite character, followed closely by Ingressus, I see this as an absolute win)
@@CK-Voltaris also, I'm gonna mention something here that I personally noticed one time when thinking about SoW. Senn restoring peace was foreshadowed or at least hinted at _three_ separate times 1. Thalleous. The balcony scene Thalleous says to Senn "Perhaps the truth will help you one day, find peace" (the line is peas in our hearts). Even though he was probably referring to internal peace, in hindsight, Senn, through finding internal peace with who he is, also brought peace to the clans. 2. Almrak. This one is the most obvious, "Deltheus sees it as misfortune, but I see it as an opportunity that we share the lineage of two clans, we could be the ones to finally bring peace between the five clans". Self-explanatory, Almrak was spot on here. 3. Ingressus. This one is slightly implied. "Because you may yet succeed where I've failed". To me, he could definitely be referring to his failure to keep to his original goal to bring the clans together, someone which he hopes that Senn may be able to do, as the only other Voltaris to be raised by another clan. I'm definitely looking way too much into this.
The video is very detailed and objective, and the matching picture and music are also very suitable. I have many similar understandings with you. There is no doubt that ingressus is the most complete and charming villain. I'm glad he has fans like you.
I will come back to this. It's so great to see the songs of war fandom still producing content Edit: I've watched it. It's beautiful. Ingressus' story is one of the most complex, intricately woven character arcs in all of fiction, in my opinion. You've made me want to write a fanfiction that focuses on his life outside of what we see (lol). Songs of War has always, and will always hold a special place in my heart, and watching this video has successfully reinvigorated my 4-year-long hyperfixation. Genuinely, this deep-dive into arguably the best-written character in all of Ardonia's storyline brought me near-tears, so thank you. I have so much to say that could never be expressed in a youtube comment, but I've got nothing but praise for this video and this character's writing. His actions were inexcusable, but he was a legend in his own right. Rest in Peace, Ingressus Voltaris.
Yeah the Knights of Ardonia animation showed young ingressus and dominus with more red colourisation. Which Xuxmenlong animations did not do unfortunately. Basic art: Yellow plus Red = Orange so that is such a cool small detail
Amazing video, I suggest you all watch this. I do like how The Deathsinger is one of the best villains in fiction, but I do believe that it was at the cost of other arcs. Overall, I'm glad you made this and would suggest doing a Thalleous or Tidesinger one. (But first, take a long break, you deserve it)
This video was amazing, and you explained everything perfectly, I don't even think I could have explained Ingressus better myself, you have earned my respect!
Awesome analysis! Ingressus' character is easily one of the main reasons I love Songs of War. I remember when I first watched Season 1, and was initially skeptical that it'd be any good. The first few minutes of the prologue were nice, but Ingressus' reaction to being denied the prime songs was the moment that really got me hooked. Even with the Walls of Time painting him as a bad guy, it still didn't explain why he had such a harsh reaction to that denial. (which was for the rest of the story to unveil)
Haven’t seen much SoW content in a while, I kind of left after it was cancelled. Sometimes I remember it and hope it will come back, but yea I doubt it at this point. Great video, I loved SoW!
7:18 That explains why we (because of Senn) could see the history of Ingressus when he handed over the Voltar to Senn. It housed the memories of Ingressus, so he could explain his meanings wordless to Senn (cause when the scene cuts back to Senn and Ingressus, Ingressus says: 'Do you see now?').
Every time people irl say whos your favorite villian in fiction I don't have a number 1 but ingressus is really close but decide not to tell them because my favorite villain is from a silly block game animation so I just lie which really does not do him justice cause they put all the effort on writing ingressus while most of the other characters are not completely finished written. His turning to the curruption to the prime songs remind me a lot of well written characters like Anakin skywalker (Star Wars) and Tai Lung (Kung fu Panda) in many ways. And come on his weapons and ability's are sick as hell. usually magic users in stories stick to a wand and warriors stick to swords or polearms but Deathsinger literally takes the gigachad varied weapons path and uses both a fire sword (which is sick af but not 100% need) and one of the coolest staff designs which him use songs more effectively which creates the coolest potential for fight scenes as he has intelligence strength and Magic (Songs). Not to mention his cool patterning which is like tiger stripes with the sunset red like patterning, His voice actor Jonathan David Bullock Does an excellent job at voicing him making him sound young and more like a normal dude that has to do what's need for his clan just to simply survive instead of a generic villian like Tygren. His reveal at Season 1 Finale Shiver me Timbers as well. All of that combined just creates a near perfect villian.
He’s not in season 1 very much and sadly seasons 2-3 were canceled. However many talented fan animators continued the show unofficially by animating different episodes and there are many with all the scenes of Ingressus. I’m surprised you actually watched this without having seen SoW, I hope you like it!!
I would like to start this message by expressing my gratitude. Ingressus Voltaris is also my favorite character and i am extremely grateful to be able to share my thoughts with others who are fans of SoW unlike in my school where i am disgraced for liking minecraft animations. In the beginning, We are led to believe that the deathsinger was the antagonist of the story. However it was told to us by Thalleous who himself did not have a clear conscience. Ingressus's actions are not justiciable however they were carried out due to the pain and suffering inflicted upon him by the other 4 clans. He had seen his entire group get killed and his clan was nearly wiped out by the ardoni. In this point of view, His actions were a direct result of the ardoni's hatred for his clan, the voltaris, which erupted when the clans figured out that the voltaris were diving deep into the history of the songs and could potentially be too strong of a threat to handle in the mere future. Hence they banned the clan and issued a champion to hunt all of them down. This along with the fact that after he was denied the prime songs due to his clan and name, ignited the fuel in his passion even further, causing him to go hungry for the primes and going to extreme measures to fulfill his greed. It is my personal opinion which suggests that prime ingressus is stronger than Thalleous. To be fair, the only reason thalleous was defeated in the ambushed and killed was because he was 275 years old and way past his prime. Prime Ingressus was showed to have excelled in perfectly using the primes. He could take on a bunch of Ardonis at once, an act which was never displayed or shown about thalleous. Ingressus even used 2 swords unlike thalleous and was extremely skilled in fighting. This is displayed by the fact that he trained Achillean Nestoris, A fisherman who would eventually be the only one to stand between him and the primes and prevent Ingressus from fulfilling his secondary goal. However, the deathsinger never had the aggresium prime song and was never able to use it, unlike thalleous who was given all 4 prime songs when he was chosen to be the champion. All of these factors clash with each other but eventually Ingressus would dominate against thalleous due to his excel in his ability in using the primes when compared to thalleous. Just to wrap this up, Ingressus was made a villain by the acts of the Kaltaris,Nestoris,Mendoris and the Sendaris clans. If they would have never banished and exiled the voltaris or maybe if they had never started hunting the voltaris by treating it like a game, this never would have happened.
In episode 10, I knew there was something between Ingressus and Achillean. And then, when reading the script, he became a favourite. You know, looking back at the Prime Songs, they reflect the Voltaris in the 2 wars: in the first, they are capable of protecting themselves(Protisium), as they did do a lot of damage to the clans in the first war; they are fast and quick, as they did push through and conquer a lot of land(Mobilium); and they are creative or loyal/offer support to one another(Supporium). In the second war, they had the 2 latter. I feel like it would have been better had he gained the Aggresium Prime in the Second War. The world was weakened and most threats are so watered down. And I imagine it would unfold like this:Achillean throws Ria the song, Ingressus stops it mid throw with telekinesis. Then throws it up and all 3 activate Mobilium songs, with Ingressus seeming to have it, but Achillean takes it. The 2 fight and Achillean dies. Also, I saw that it wrote he was young when the Voltaris were banished. This is something huge, as Dominus can then be the one who led then when banished and hints at what it is Ingressus saw in Voltar. I thought an image on a campfire, where Dominus explains to his son their history, minus the Primes' power, but I feel like during their conversation, he could have said sth like:"I don't know(why we were banished), but I feel like there's more to the story." Also on Aegus: when he looks back at the Tournament with sorrow, I think it was stated in the commentary that he saw that nothing will ever change between the relationship between the Voltaris and the other clans. And your video helped explain a lot on why it is he confronted Pythus like that. He had just been freed from the Primes like a day since the Tournament. His mind must be a mess which you clearly said. The best written character indeed!
20:13 Quick critique, I'm pretty sure his name is a reference to Cronos, the father of the Olympians, he was chopped to bits by Zeus, and his remains were sent to Tataurus, a firey realm similar to the Nether.
Difference between Tygren and Ingressus Tygren Care for clan❎ Villainous✅ Pure Evil✅ Broken❎ Ingressus Care for clan✅ Villainous❎ Pure Evil❎ Broken✅ Noice vid btw
I actually think Tygren does care for his clan. Yes he’s a villainous mass murderer but he sees what he does as revenge and thinks his victims deserve to die for what happened to his clan. He cares, just in a way more fucked up way than Ingressus was. I wish his character was more fleshed out, it’s pretty interesting too.
@@MrFinchStudiosReborn He doesn’t send them TO die, he sends them into a battle against a village that cannot defend itself and poses no threat to their lives. I don’t think he accounted for Thalleous’ presence. Also wdym twice? It was only once.
@@PosiWritesStories first spearman and 3 others attacked Thall Second time he send 4 of them on Thalleous(he activated Aggroquake to kill them) instead of fighting himself and saving more lifes
Also SQM has recently shown interest in officially continuing the series, so it would be cool to finally see Ingressus' Season 2 and 3 scenes at Season 1 quality once that happens.
@@CK-Voltaris and also u can fit agus with achillean bc there both somewhat connected and I ask if agus is achillean dad bc they don’t have the same markings
Ingressus was such a legend. I adored him sm. But I like Thalleous more for some reason. IS IT WRONG THAT I GAVE THALLEOUS MEGA TRAUMA AND DEPRESSION ALONG WITH INGRESSUS, ZULIUS AND SENN-? anyway you have a rlly nice voice, I like a lot. edit: I made a whole frigging AU dedicated to Thalleous being a Trauma Boy and needs snuggles.
@@anonymousperson5853 I’m glad you liked it! I downloaded the world so long ago I don’t remember how exactly I got it on Minecraft, but you can download it on the BPS Archives website for both java and bedrock edition. Here’s a link to the website: archive.blackplasma.xyz/songs-of-war/ hope this helps!
Thought about this for a while but i never told anyone but the whole tournament is a plot hole to me if thalleous was confirmed in the prologue to have been there how would he have reacted to ingressus revealing himself he would’ve obviously wanted to kill him also why would the clans just let a voltaris go or not kill him after that especially the master (i blame plot armor) also how did no one in nestoria or the masters/thalleous in the tournament recognize the voltar staff and the fire sword and lastly if achillean was holding the voltar in the flashback wouldn’t he have seen everything ingressus experienced this one came to me after the conversation where he proposed ingressus enter the tournament I cant unsee that whole sequence now might just be overthinking it but I’ve wondered if anyone else has thought about this
Best character his actions make sense although a lot not justifiable it makes you understand why he did what he did from the things he went through as a child and wanting to save his clan leading to him getting corrupted by the very thing that destroyed his clan the prime songs. He made horrible decisions but it was all for the sake of his clan and taking into account all the stuff he went through can you really blame him?
@@CK-Voltaris also, hasn't no one mentioned the weird continuity of the New Voltaria scenes or something. Cuz it always got me that Senn _should_ have red markings when talking to Ria at Ingressus' grave as that was _after_ the clans were reunited. When Ria says "we are needed up north" she is referring to the Walls of Time, where they read the 13th Wall of Time which also acts as the closing dialogue, with flashbacks to show the clans reuniting which would mean that the scene with Ingressus' grave happens after the ceremony and where Senn initiated himself. Idk always came across as weird to me (With full respect to XunMengLong, little details may be hard to notice sometimes, especially when it is this inferred)
I don't really see Ingressus as a Villain Protagonist, the basis of a Villain Protagonist is that they are the main character, Senn is the main character of Songs of War not Ingressus.
Senn is far from the most interesting. Ingressus is clearly the main course in this story. He has a crazy progression and his story is heartbreaking, maddening and immoral. Sad. But he relates to the viewers.
In the SoW production material folder in google drive, it’s in a document with the odd name ~WRL3591 at the very bottom. If you don’t have the folder then I could send you the doc through google if you’d like
This is a great analysis! You really made me realize many things I hadn't understood, seeing people still being this passionate about Songs of War warms my heart and gives me hope for the future. Let's hope we get picked up by Squared Media again
@@JunTitzDeMesa Thanks so much! I most likely won’t do an analysis on Senn, however I’m planning on rewriting his character and talking about him a little in-depth sometime in the future!
I found a good playlist for season 2, but not season 3 since not everything has been fully animated. If you search up “Full Songs of War Season 2”, the playlist should come up. For S3, Megste Studios animated a few scenes and compiled them in a 47 minute long video on his channel. XunMengLong and TheSnakeAnimator made part of S3 episode 5, and XunMengLong also made a S3 episode 7/8 clip as well as the series finale. Those are probably the best fan animations but there’s a lot more out there. Hope that makes a little bit of sense lol
@@manastodi8592 If Ingressus had all 4 Prime Songs he probably would’ve been just as strong as prime Thalleous, but canonically Champion Thalleous is the strongest since DS never had all the Prime Songs
@@CK-Voltaris but ingressus even without the 4 prime songs was equally as strong as thalleous don't u think? He had 3 prime songs but was still pretty strong tho :((
