Caribbean women would call "rinsing your hair out," instead of water washing. Example, "When you come out of the sea, don't forget to rinse out your hair with fresh water."

This wash routine is very easy! Please don't confuse the length of this video, or the abundance of details/information, with a complicated routine. It is extremely simple, but I've learned a lot in these past months and wanted to share it ALL with you guys so you don't make the same mistakes I did! So super long video, but extremely simple routine! Xo!

***** Just a quick tip : A scalp massage should manipulate your scalp with gentle pressure, not your hair. Try not to put your fingers on top of hair when you massage, that's what causes breakage. I've been doing water only washing since April and I love it. The only product I use on my hair is coconut oil on the ends and where my sebum is extra waxy. Still a lot of trial and error, but I'm sticking with it.

***** NO SHADE, so bear with me ladies and if anything lets have a discussion instead of people getting upset about this. With that said, I'm curious as to why scalp hygiene never seems to really be taken into account. We all know that hair is dead and that barring chemical processes, our hair strands do not change. Thus, the "feel" of the strand is due solely to what's on it be it silicones, oils or waxes. If you want to theorize then wouldn't it be more logical to clean the part of your body (the scalp) with the densest follicles of hair, largest amount of apocrine sweat glands, as often as one does their armpits and genitals? I'm asking this because I consider my scalp just like my armpits, where hygiene is concern, and I wouldn't use water only to clean my armpits for weeks at a time. Bacteria are always present on us and smells generally come from bacteria degrading the sweat produced by our various glands and water does not get rid of them. Now our scalp may be at an advantage for not smelling as bad as armpits can because it is always ventilated and not a moist place but that does not mean that the buildup of bacteria are not present. Thoughts...

Hey Whit, I tried the washing every 3 days and my scalp was itchy just like you said so I gave it a break. Now I'm working on tweaking my washes. However, I did like having water in my hair every other day due to the humidity, but it was very drying to my scalp. I will give what you mentioned in the video a try and report back. Also can you do a vid on how you plan to regrow your edges because I feel like I lost a few strands with my frequent massaging and me just itching my scalp due to dryness and hand in hair. Thanks a milli .... *****

1centplus1cent I've wondered the same thing too but there are women that did this for years with no health issues. In fact, their hair seems even healthier. Maybe there is some simple scientific explanation that we are unaware of. There are some people who only use water to wash their face as well. They may use soap once a month more or less. I have relatives that do this, how? I have no idea but they have baby smooth skin. It's so confusing and sounds insane to me but it works for them. I've had family members with locs and all they use are aloes, water and occasionally coconut oil and their locs are always clean and healthy looking. I've also thought about the times when shampoo or soap did not exist and wondered how these women were able to maintain their overall health and beautiful hair. I also remember hearing an elderly person say that all they did was wash their hair with baking soda and water. I'm beginning to think that the idea of using water only doesn't seem as bad as it may sound to some especially if you do it properly, as often as needed and especially if you are using simple products that can be fully rinsed out with just water. Check out wateronlyhairwashing here on youtube. She's been doing it for a year or more now and her hair is incredibly healthy and very long. Maybe you can ask her questions about smell, bacteria and the likes. She sometimes shows close ups of her hair and scalp and both always seem to appear clean and healthy.

1centplus1cent I fully understand your concerns, but our scalps aren't in as much need of hygienic daily cleansing as our bodies. We bathe everyday, but dont wash our hair everyday, and for good reason. The hair on top of head is meant to be there for temperature control and for protection, and so our scalps are adapted accordingly and are different than the other skin of our bodies. Sebum is actually naturally somewhat antiseptic, so not washing your hair all that often with some kind of cleanser isnt necessarily creating a nasty breeding ground for bacteria. As long as dead skin cells are being regularly removed and there isnt excessive oil build up, your scalp will be healthy and "clean." And all that can be achieved with water and massage. What you can do though, is weekly or biweekly massage a very diluted ACV solution into only your scalp and flush only your scalp with water to rinse it out so your not stripping your hair of any natural oil. That will leave your scalp cleaner than just using water washes and co-washes every do often.

Watch wateronlyhairwashing on RU-vid she is a great lady for information and has been using wage only for over a year. I have been during it for a few months. The more you wash your hair and are able to obtain full sebrum coverage the better. It just takes about two months for full coverage and putting oil on and rinsing it out is great until full coverage.

Whit, I think if you just go back to basics you will find that your hair will grow back to its normal length. I had some horrible heat damage 2 years ago and had to cut off half my hair. I've been natural all my life. I started doing new things that first year to get my hair to grow back fast (co-washing more, deep conditioning more, trimming on a schedule, etc.) I had minimal results. I had rapid growth within the first 6 months this year when I just went back to basics which was braid out and infrequent washing and conditioning. I learned my hair grew best when I left it alone. We look to others who have what we want and copy them to get those results, but sometimes we have to examine what we were doing when our hair was long and go back to that. I love you videos and your vlogs! Thanks Whit!

Yesterday (Aug 1) marked one month of water only washing for me and let me tell you. I have no intention of doing any other method. The tangles melt away in the shower, I'm saving so much money on products, my hair is so soft and moisturized and it took a little less than a month for total sebum coverage. You can't go wrong with this method. Please stick with it and do a follow up to let us know if you plan to continue.

Hi everyone, I just would like to add that I have been doing this method for a little over two months now, and I love it. Regarding massaging your scalp, it is actually just that. It means that you actually use your fingers to move the skin/ scalp. I hope that this is clear.Try to move the skin not the hair. The sebaceous glands are located within the dermis, and by moving the skin/scalp you stimulate them better. In fact, once I position my fingers on my scalp they do not move, only the scalp/ skin does. Because of that, I have not experienced any breakage at all.. I hope this help, and that I was clear enough. good luck to you all and have fun By the way, dear naptural85, I enjoy all of your videos and is a long time fan. Thx for being you.

I'm so glad to see that you have added water rinses to your routine. I can't say enough about how much this has done for my hair. I have been washing/rinsing my hair with mostly filtered water 5 times (sometimes 3-4 times) a week for 1 year now. My hair is stronger, softer and much easier to manage now. One year ago, I never would've believed that my sebum would be the perfect detangler, styling gel, moisturizer and sealant for my hair. So glad I was wrong. A warm ACV rinse once a month to remove buildup and organic coconut milk as my weekly protein treatment (left on my hair for 1 hour) is the perfect combo for me! Another bonus is that my hair grows much faster now.

Great!, I started this water only washing about three weeks now. And my hair just loves it. Being a 4c/z the moisture retention is amazing. I use my mixed oils and sheabutter mix and the shine my goodness. I also use the coconut oil to deep condition. You are so right on, I'm using no products and saving money. It also has cut down my wash day time from 4- 5 hrs to an 1 hr and half tops. 👏👏

tr3sish hi, since I BC in September 14 the issue with my hair was dryness and icthy scalp. My scalp would itch constantly and I use all natural products but nothing. So I one day just spritz water on my scalp and massage some of my mixed oil and voila no more itchy scalp. So that lead me to research the water only washing.

Yes ! I've recently noticed that too! Idk what to do though. Cause I usually wear twist out, so I don't necessarily want to sleep on my twist without anything around it even though I sleep on a satin pillow case, I fear I will wake and there uptwisted and frizzy lol. I really need to figure something out though cause my edges are suffering:(
@onjeinika

I had locks and my edges thinned a bit. I think a light spritz of water and Jamaican black castor oil has helped mine. I spray and lightly massage once a day. Sometimes I alternate with coconut oil too. Use very little of the oil because you just want to stimulate the hair follicles.

The word "sebum" totally grosses me out. I don't why. It just sounds nasty! Lol! Also, I sweat a LOT in my head, so it ain't just sebum up there. It gets all sweaty and gross and shampoo is a MUST for me. But, if this method works for you? Go for it!

You know I use to think the SAME thing until I tried it (for a little while). I use to work out everyday (until I started being lazy) and I would sweat A LOT. I didn't want to wash it every day with shampoo but I had to do something because it would smell and itch soooo badly. I washed it with just water once and the smell and itch went away it was sooooo clean. So I kept doing it. I would put a little apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle with water every now and then just because and just focus on my scalp. The key to me is massaging. You have to massage the water in. My point is you never know what will work unless you try it. I honestly just like using shampoo so this will be hard for me but I want to try it.
@SimoraCheeks1
@SimoraCheeks1 9 лет назад
teemoneybaby I sweat excessively every single day and I'm a dancer so I'm very active. Water only washing still works and actually works way better than using shampoo. Your sebum is a natural conditioner. It coats and protects your hair. Shampoo is definitely not a must.

@tc47440 9 лет назад
Simora Cheeks Did you read what I wrote? Let me quote myself: it's "a must for ME". Not every method works for everyone. Jeez. I exclusively did this method for about 4 months last year. I have 4c hair. My hair loved it. My scalp wasn't dry but I did develop "cow licks". I already had issues with bald spots at my crown but I did some research and found out that sebum carries DHT to your scalp if you don't take precautions to not have DHT production happen within your body. So apparently I wasn't eating the right foods or taking the correct supplements and I had this problem. My edges were gone. So this is the only draw back I had with this method. Now I'm clay and water washing doing a lot of GHE for consecutive days at a time and really making some serious dietary changes and my hair is slowly filling back in in all areas. But I think following your guidelines and inhibiting DHT production through diet is key to having success with this method for most people. But as with any regime, listen to your hair and scalp and make adjustments as needed to have a successful journey. Thanks for posting!

Loved the video!! I was introduced to water only washing from BorderHammer. I did research, watched videos and decided to give it a try almost 12 weeks ago. I have seborrheic dermatitis and this has truly been a life changer for me!! My scalp has never been this healthy and happy in my life. I started the method by doing an acv rinse to cleanse my scalp. I literally did the scalp massage, pulling the sebum down my strands, and water rinsing EVERY day for 30 days. After that I now only do the process every 3-4 days. My hair drys so quickly, doesn't tangle, minimal shedding, and I haven't had to use a comb at all...only fingers. I do a bentonite clay wash followed by a deep condition with EVOO & honey at the beginning of the month and I do a henna treatment for my grays, also followed by deep conditioner treatment the middle of the month. This current water only washing method saves me so much time, energy, and resources!

***** You are my hair therapist! Love this awesome video I have followed your many hair tips every since I discovered your videos several years ago. My hair was very dry an frizzy, I didn't have any type of curl pattern, basically I was wearing a combed-out afro because it is was the only way I knew how to wear my natural hair which is 60s and early 70s old school hairstyle for afro-texture hair. I used your Shea butter, DIY oils, Rhassoul clay and Flax seed recipes... viola! I have a curl pattern and I get lots of compliments on my hair. My hectic work schedule only allow time to do two-strand twists, twist-outs, a simple bun, wash and go styles, not much time to experiment with other methods you have done in previous tutorials. My hair looks better than it has ever looked thanks, to your hair tips. My hair looked so nice when I went for my dental visit the dentist and her assistant wanted to know the technique I used to achieve the curly twisted-out I was rocking... both women said they loved my hair. I have always had thin hair, using your hair tips has improved my hair texture and it looks fuller. I have watched several videos about the water only method, but never got the nerve to try it after watching this video today I will be giving it a try. Thanks for sharing your natural hair experiences you have taught me how to style and maintain my natural hair.

@Claudia F you have explained the scalp massage perfectly! You tuber ware to lyhairwashing explains everything perfectly and I think I realise that reading through some of the comments that some of us are not really understanding how to do WOW correctly. It isn't simply about using water only, but getting the 'technoque' right without causing hair breakage etc. Glad Whitney is trying WOW, even if it is a modified version. However, massaging/script ching is what keeps the oil production going! In the WOW regimen, hair was only washed daily as an initiation, then every 3-4 days depending on your oil production or as your own hair responds. Sebum also cleans the bacteria, dirt from your hair when water washing as you are dragging it down and rinsing the old and replenishing with the new from the too of the scalp. Hence, no smelly hair. Research will give a clearer understanding of why this works on ANY hair.

You're water washing method is very similar to what I used to do. I ended up stopping after about two months, but it was great while I was doing it. I made a mistake and it was wedding season which meant I didn't have a lot of room for experimentation, so I (unfortunately) gave up on it. I think you've motivated me to try it again with the periodic cowashing. Thanks Nap!

Thank you so much Nap. I'm going to try this IMMEDIATELY. Also, I just want to say, since i usually watch from my phone and don't have access to comments and therefore never leave any, that you have been instrumental in my journey to natural hair for both me and my daughter. I know that this thank you is years old and long overdue but I really appreciate all the work that you put into your videos, all of the time taking to prepare and ensure they are easy to follow, I appreciate you having a hairstyle for every occasion, you sharing all of your tips and helping your community of sisters to embrace their natural texture which has been so freeing and liberating. You have been a pioneer in the natural hair community for women of color in my opinion and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving so much of yourself and your time. I wish you all the best for you and your family.

I started this a month ago then I realised, ever since my hair passed the one year mark (I'm almost two years natural now) I've been pretty much leaving my sebum to just chill out on my scalp. I have coarse, thick hair in front which graduates to thin as it goes to my nape area and gets finer (I didn't know I had fine hair anywhere on my scalp till about a month or so ago) add heat damage to the back area, a 3hour wash and de-tangling routine, hair unresponsive to anything that is not 100% coconut oil or some other purely natural product and I was so done with my hair. I'd just lazily wash once or twice a month and rinse out product every two weeks or so with water, scritching my scalp to get what I thought was excess build-up off but now know is sebum. I'd always come out of the shower with oily hands and didn't know why. (I wasn't distributing the sebum back then so after a couple of days it just flakes off but under warm water it melted. I used to think it was my scalp flaking off because it was light brown to transparent and not yellow) Well, now the only thing I do differently is distributing the sebum down my strands. And guess what?! De-tangling takes about 10 minutes. I literally do NOTHING! My strands just pave way for my fingers by themselves. Well, this is long.

Thanks for showing this method. Ive actually been trying a similar method to this one. I split my routine in weeks just because it works better for my schedule. Week 1 clarify/deep condition and style. Week 2 water wash and style Week 3 water wash ( 2×)and style (my hair is usually really oily this time so i water wash twice this week. Week 4- co wash My styles are usually twist, twist outs and bantu knots. With twists i can easily massage my scalp and run the sebum down the twist. I cant wait to see your length progress, and your hair look super healthy and super shiny 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Hi *****, I thought the goal with washing with water only was to get full hair coverage of sebum to your ends. With other videos I have seen with girls doing the water only washing routine said it took about 2-4 months to get full sebum coverage for their hair. Yes, the water does help the sebum travel to the ends, but i thought the goal was to have the sebum stretch as far down to the hair shaft as possible naturally, to help elongate, and to define our natural curls. When you do the co-washing to takes it away so you don't get the whole sebum coverage the girls were talking about. I know you said you didn't want your hair to get weighted down and dull and you didn't want your hair to start producing less oil than it already it. I'm wondering maybe you could co-wash just your scrap without removing the rest of the sebum from your hair. I know this is still your theory, but i wanted to make that suggestion to you for you to try. I am also going to start doing the water washing as well especially the way you said it, but have my water washing periods go a little bit long before I co-wash. I have a ashy natural brown hair color and my hair doesn't shine like yours unless i have it DRIPPING with oils! So I'm gonna try to water washing a little bit longer and see my results.
@vteech1

I've been doing this since last year! I workout/run at least every other day, but washing my hair every day was not good for my hair at all. I switched to washing twice a week (still a three day cycle): Wash Day 1 - I clarify, then deep condition, because this is usually my most heavy workout day (including doing some good ole power yoga while DCing). This is also the time a week I will use a comb or denman brush to detangle , and I try and time this wash day on a Sunday or Monday Wash Day 2 - Water wash all the way. I usually finger detangle before getting into the shower, then use a method similar to the one in your video. I try to keep this relatively short to maintain my stretched length, and not over-saturate my hair - or else my hair will be dull for the next few days. After I finish a section, I quickly coat it in a light oil (usually Vitamin E), twist it up, then move on! When I switched to this routine, my main goal was keeping my hair clean, yet moisturized. Little did I know how much my hair would enjoy this! After only a month, I noticed that my hair was more manageable, shiny, and growing like crazy! Hopefully you'll experience the same while testing out techniques. Also, I don't have any videos here (yet), but I do post on Instagram! check it out: @treyeastuhh

You can do different things. I used to wash with shampoo every two weeks while w.o.w every 3 days. I would do 1 nice lather, rinse, deep condition and detangle for the next day. If you sweat a lot or do activities that would allow dirt to incorporate itself into your hair, try shampooing weekly. There is no set way to do this method. Experiment

I have been using a version of this method for about 2 months. I modified it a bit. I do a sort of "pre poo" on my hair before. Meaning I just moisturize my hair with conditioner before water washing and then just massage my scalp and rinse very very well. I have noticed my hair retains more moisture and my hair has grown so much and I have less shredding. I have only clarified my hair once, but looking back I don't really think I needed it. But I just wanted to make sure I didn't have any scalp build up since my scalp is sensitive to product build up. But I love this! It's fast and easy, I have also been twisting my hair and my hair has been loving all of this and I'm so excited with the growth. I would said in 2 months it's grown about 2-3 inches !

i shampoo and deep condition once a week then recondition, not cowash because i never put it directly on my scalp, midweek to refresh. Ive been doing this for about 3 months now and have actually seen more length retention in these 3 months than my former twist out routine. I personally need to shampoo once a week or else my scalp gets really irritated
@CBCFirstLady

Same here! I faithfully cowash 2x weekly and shampoo 1x weekly with a deep condition there after. I use shampoo bars (sulfate-free) which are wonderful. I recently tried a bentonite clay mask instead of a clarify shampoo. Ladies that was the best thing I could have ever done for my hair! My hair was soooo so soft, moist and my curly coils clumped beautifully! So given that I plan on incorporating clay mask cleansing 2x monthly. 🌴😎

I don't think this method reduces sebum production over time for everyone. From what I understand reading and watching both straight haired AND natural haired women who've done/succeeded with this method, *cough wateronlyhairwash cough* what this method does is regulate the amount of sebum you produce. I don't think there is anything wrong with Naptural85's method, but I don't think she's correct in thinking that she needs to cowash in order to shock her scalp into producing more sebum. If you're massaging your scalp on a regular basis, you're gonna keep producing sebum. I only think you'd have to worry about sebum building up overtime, which cowashing would be good for as long is it doesn't strip it all completely or leave build up in your hair from difficult ingredients. I think for straight-haired women who are overproducing the problem is that they often do shock their scalp into producing more sebum than necessary by stripping it all away every time they wash, but I think most natural haired women don't overproduce. If anything we probably underproduce because the curls/coils/kinks in our hair make it hard for the natural oils to even leave our scalp. We often take measures not to strip our hair, but the oils aren't being moved down the strands, they just sit there and build up, so our scalps learns to not produce as much oil. So for us, this method helps us regulate by increasing our sebum production til it gets to where we need it to be. While straight hair women who overproduce use this method to regulate by decreasing sebum production til it gets to where they need it to be.

I've been doing the washing every 3 to 4 days method for about a month and half now and my results have been amazing! I always massage my scalp with coconut oil before cleansing it with conditioner or water. I don't really have a set day on whether it'll be conditioner or water just whatever I feel my hair needs at that moment the most. I've notice LESS breakage, more shine, as well as less single strand nots. My hair also seems to be retaining more length; as it grew an inch and some change, in just a month! When I started this method I also started only using my fingers to detangle my hair so that could be a huge factor as well! I've also noticed a significant difference in my definition. My 4a/4b kinks and curls are more define than EVER! Naturally ! I achieved my first conditioner only wash & go, which I thought I could never do lol. Anyways, I have NO intentions on stopping this method anytime soon! :) #imlovingit ! lol

I've done this method since watching your video last week and I love it! My wash days are so quick & easy plus detangling is a breeze. My only question/concern is can I still use a leave in + gel for my wash n go's? When I wear my hair in a twist out, Curlformer set, or other stretched style I will simply use Shea butter and maybe a little flaxseed gel for hold. However I tend to wear my hair in wash n go's 80% of the time and my staple products for moisture & hold are the Kinky Curly Knot Today & Curling Custard. From what I've seen from water only hair washing, virtually no product is used apart from Shea butter & oils. Will using my store bought natural leave in & gel prevent sebum distribution or worse strip the sebum entirely?

y not try coconut milk or green tea natural approach because that cleans the scalp without stripping it

This actually sounds pretty good. I've done this many times, well the rinsing part anyway. I never really thought about using that oil on my hair. It sounds like a neat idea. And your hair is so SHINY!!! Beautiful. :)

Can you please please please pleasee do a video on how to grow back your edges?! Mine are so thin and I have no idea why I've been massaging with JBCO but I don't see any progress :( help me Whitney!
@oliviajxoxo
@oliviajxoxo 9 лет назад
I did that for so long when I first started noticing my edges thinning and i didn't see any results despite being consistent and doing so for MONTHS. Now I just spritz my edges every morning with a water,conditioner, and oil spray and seal with any oil I have on hand with very little to no massaging and my edges have been filling in nicely! I think the JBCO was too thick and may have clogged my scalp and the frequent massaging was doing more harm than good like Whitney experienced. Hope this helps!

Natasha May , how about this, don't mess with them edges so much, moisturize them, seal/em with oil... and go on about your day. I had this bald patch once... Im not sure what happened, but i just sprayed whenever i remembered... (every 4 days. lol), and kept on going about my day. Gels and scarves and brushes NEVER touched my edges... and I learned to embrace the frizziness.

Natasha May mines were thin too , i left them alone .. i added a little oil to keep frm dry scalp .. & thats it .. they grew bck on their own. the more you tend to try diff things on them & mess w/ them yes they will start thinning out . keep any type of tension off of them. like i use a silk satin bonnet & i keep it like 2-3 inches away frm my edges . sewins , braids , twist , i leave my edges out.. moral of the story is leave them alone. lol add a light moisturizer/oil & i also deep condition for 30 mins-1hr. maybe longer. but every one hair is different. i learned the more i messed w/ them & tried this that & third . they came out.. so i hardly touch them. i do use a little edge control to slick them dwn.

+Natasha May I'm not an expert but I'm 3 years natural and I usual keep my edges braided up and I trim them more regularly then other sections of my hair. At least once a year I will shorten my backs my edges are healthy and strong

+Natasha May I agree with many of the ladies here. I moisturize my edges VERY lightly with Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey only on the nights when I do my twist outs. I do not slick them down because that's what made my edges thin out in the first place!!! That, and wearing cornrows and braids (extensions) because they pulled on my edges too much. For the most part, I just keep my hands off them and they have grown back and are healthy. I don't massage them.

I like this take on the WOW Method as opposed to washing everyday. I've wanted to do it, but everyday was a deal breaker for me. Gonna give this a try.

Yayy finally an update... I too have been testing out your theory and just like yours my scalp became extra dry from the co washing. I learned that if I put my mixture of peppermint oil and water on my scalp and seal it with my mixture of essential oils every night, I'm able to co wash my hair every 3 days without my scalp feeling dry

Hey Whitney, Its been about five / or 6 months since this video. Are you still using this method?
@susansusan138
@susansusan138 9 лет назад
Whitney, I did notice how much shinier and moisturized your hair looks. However, I don't believe in washing my hair for 3 days, but I would imagine it is effective for those that do. I wash my hair once a month and I retwist my 2 strand twist every 2-3 weeks to keep my hair looking fresh. I believe in this philosophy in general and when I retwist my hair today, I will try it and make sure I massage lightly in the front. Thank you for this video.

I started the water only washing method some time ago and I am loving it. I thought about you and remembered your video on the experiment and just thought to myself “This is somethings that Whitney would love” and now you are making a video on it. Great minds, eh. The problem is that I don’t know what I am going to do when school starts and I am doing braids and twists for weeks time and continue the method.

You say its sebum, but it honestly feels like product I put on my hair that has settled on my scalp. Have you actually tried this on clean hair with NO added products? You added oil. I'm having a hard time believing it isn't just all that extra oil you added sitting on your scalp.

Hey MszVivaciousB ! The first time I tried this, I shampoo'd my hair to start fresh (something I recommended to first-timers depending on the how clean their scalp is to start) and yes! It works! Although I did still seal with my hair and body oil, I've been playing in oils for a long time and the sebum feels much different than any oil I've ever used. More thick and waxy. And it covers/moisturizes the hair in a way that regular oils don't. You'll know the difference when you feel it. But to answer your question, yes I'm sure it's the sebum and yes I've tried this with no additional "products" (like shea butter or anything waxy/thick that builds up, to lead me to believe it wasn't sebum) Xo!

@SimoraCheeks1 9 лет назад
MszVivaciousB It's definitely your natural oils. I started out with a bentonite clay wash to strip all the products out of my hair and now I've used nothing at all except water on my hair. It's been months and the sebum is the only coating I have. You can see it once it builds up a bit. When your scalp is wet, it looks like a white coating on your roots. It's brilliant.

Simora Cheeks Thank you Simora for your insight, you just taught me what sebum is. I do not have any scalp issues but I would see this thick paste looking thing on my scalp and would try earnestly to wash it away, all along it was sebum but I didn't know it, thank you.
