I think Geoff Johns' run on the Flash was probably the best run on the Flash. So many moving parts, but still comprehensible. Johns definitely knew what he was doing. Thanks Omar & stay safe everyone.
So the Wally and Barry we see throughout the post.crisis timeline originally lived in the silver age earth one timeline/universe? Correct me if I’m wrong: Barry Allen of the earth one universe sacrificed himself during crisis on infinite earths, reality gets rebooted and a new timeline/universe gets created and the Wally of earth one is just shifted into this new universe with all his memories from his old universe? he just continues living in the post crisis/new earth universe knowing he came from a different reality?
These are so handy thank you omar. Maybe you could do a batman, wonder woman( for the film or superman next?). Ps how long does it take to compile the reading orders?
Oh... lets see, usually the prep work is rereading some of the books and then making sure the issues are contained in the book. For example all solicits show that Flash by Waid only goes up to issue 129, when in fact it goes up to 130. It takes a couple of weeks, an hour or so a day. Not much, but I know how much it helps people. :)
List for quick overview (didn't get all the authors/artists names as I was watching it sorry): 1) The Life Story of The Flash (by Iris West) / Flash of Two Worlds (Seems optional, but important story) 2) The Flash Book One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six by Mark Waid 3)The Flash by Grant Morrison, Mark Millar (Collects Emergency Stop + Human Race) 4) The Flash Omnibus Vol 1, Vol 2, Vol 3 by Geoff Johns 5) DC Crossover Event "Infinite Crisis" 6) Lightning in a Bottle 7) Full Throttle 8) JLA/JSA Crossover "Lightning Saga" 9) The Wild Wests
I constantly see the argument about whether Waid or Johns’ run is better. I’ve only read the New 52 run, curious what your verdict on the best writer for 90s Flash is.
Loved Mark Waid and Geoff John's flash runs. I collected the singles back in the day. These stories are nostalgiac and still some of the best Flash stories. It made Wally West my facorite character. We need a Mark Waid Omni for sure.
Sees comprehensive look: instantly thumbs up! Picked up the Flash of Two Worlds after your vid, and have the Johns vol 1 (and readying up for the next Flash omnis!!!)
The fact that DC hasn't made Waid's Flash/Impulse runs into omnis is ludicrous. People have been asking for Waid Flash collections for a decade, if not more. I want everything Waid did with speedsters (Yes, this includes JLA: Year One and BatB: GL/Flash) in omni format!
Going through everything in the Flash reading order now (just finished Geoff Johns Book 5). btw is The Flash: The Wild Wests super important? Just asking cause it's OOP and very hard to find. 😀
I never clicked on a video so fast in my life . I will click even faster if I see you releasing one on wonder woman . Thank you for doing these comprehensive guides
Luckily Here in Italy they are collecting Mark Waid run in omnibus format 😀. Btw you really deserve a lot more views and subscribers. Your work is insane
You’ve covered almost all my fav heroes reading order. Nightwing, flash, daredevil, Spiderman. All I hope is for a Batman or green arrow reading order.👀👀
10:35 I looked on Amazon for "The Flash Omnibus Geoff Johns" and it popped up a $80 book without the same cover as shown in the video and it was over 800 pages... it that the right one or is there another one I'm missing
Thanks so much for this! I've been putting together reading orders to start diving into DC stories so this is perfect timing because I wanted to start with Flash.
Coming back to this periodically. Just finished reading pre new 52 Batman in Morrison's volume three. Have The Flash by Waid Omnibus volume one and decided to read the issues before it by Baron and Messner. Interesting Omar didn't include these. Theres an omni coming out next month that collects the first half of the run.
Just out of curiosity, I'm planning to read the flash can I really skip Jay Garrick am I not going to miss something there or I can go through Barry Allens story? If so, what comic book should I start with reading with Barry Allen?
I really wish they made an omnibus collection of everything flash related, in order, from start to finish (or up to the most current story). I don't care if it's like an 8 part collection.
Can i start reading flash directly from Geoff's run.??? I usually only read when things have been collected in it's entirety in omnibus formats and sadly Mark Waid's run is not out in omnibus yet and trades are out of print as well.
Hi Omar, nice one. One thing worth mentioning is the Lighting Saga will soon be available as part of the upcoming Justice League of America by Brad Meltzer: The Deluxe Edition, which will be released in June. I can almost hear you ranting by the time you get to Heroes in Crisis XD.
Just discovered your channel today and I had to subscribe. I’ve been wanted to get into DC comics before final crisis. I remember reading final crisis just by itself. now I’m understanding there is a lot that happens before and after
Seeing you flip through the different books reinforces my opinion that I just can't stand art from the era of Infinite Crisis. Not sure why that is the case.
Why DC doesn't release Mark Waids stuff in Omnibus format is something I don't understand. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Williamson. I think he's the best writer since Johns.
He has a tenuous relationship with their editorial, but those complete collections almost being finished show that there is a good chance they will collect it all eventually.
Question. I want to start reading DC comics, specifically The Flash. Can all these comics be found on the DC Universe Infinite app? I'd happily buy a year subscription if so, if not, then how should I go about reading this character's story? Absolutely new to the Flash by the way. Thanks in advance.
That's right, lol, I'm commenting again since I'm STILL rewatching these reading order videos. Just happened to be watching this one on a road trip, swung by a store I try to support when I can and spot the Wild West's hc :) Thanks so much
I love Wally West in Young Justice (it's also the reason why I want to tryout comics as well) I don't know where to start with Wally West as the main Flash. Mark Waid's run or Geoff John's. I also prefer the cartoonish/modern art since I'm a huge sucker for good art. What would u reccommend? Mark Waid's run or Geoff John's? thank u in advance!
@@NearMintCondition like Jay. Because I KNOW who he is but haven’t read about him so would that be a problem. Like I said I know most of the characters but do I need more information to be able to read it right
Ahhh yes I have been waiting for this! Can’t wait for part 2! Also I have those orphan issues your talking about. I got the rest of Wally’s run post Johns run in singles. But now in part we get into my favorite books of all time!
I'm kind of confuse. Does the flash silver age omnibus vol 3 issue 163-200 double dip with the geoff john omnibus vol 2 163-199? Or are they complete different runs?
Are there any flash comics about events before the crisis on infinite earths ?? Like comics of flash's origin and all Because i want to read flash comics from the starting and gradually read all the comics of flash.
So I've just finished the first Mark Waid Trade and it ends with annuel #5 in which flash becomes the new pawn of eclipso and in the next Trade he's himself again and casually teaming up with Hal Jorden. Where is the eclipso stuff collected? Is it in a JLA title?
DC is so strange, I purchased the original Omnibus volumes 1 and 2 and then they announced a re-release of an Omnibus vol 1 containing most of the material from volumes 1 and 2 together. I am hoping they eventually release a new volume 2 though since I am missing the original volume 3 and it contains some print errors.
Have you seen DC are releasing a lot of deluxe hardcovers of various stories? E.g. Flash of two worlds, Aquaman death of a prince and Aquaman by Skeates 1&2, city of crime, JL origin, hiketeia, JLA by meltzer, plastic man, animal man by Morrison etcetera. Exciting times.
Didn't realize how many talented artist were on those runs :Wieringo, Larocca,Ramos, Pacheco,Kollins. It's a shame artist like Wieringo and Michael Turner got cut down in their prime. Would love to see their work today. I remember having this original collection but sold it years ago during a decluttering phase. Some entertaining stories to be sure. Can't believe they never reprinted the Flash Chain Lightning story arc yet.
Hey Omar, hope you are doing well in this time of quarantine. I was reading the Flash of Two Worlds Deluxe edition and was wondering if the dark area that surrounds the shade from Jay Garrick's vibrations on pg 100 is a reference to the speed zone? I am not too familiar with the speed zone but I have seen it in the t v show. Keep up the good work!
Hey Omar! I have a question. I'm new to the flash reading and mainly collect tpb. You said the Flash #226 - #230 have substituted writers. Is there any tpb published with these issues or are they included in the omnibus? Thanks, keep up the great work!
This is super helpful, will be returning again and again! ⚡️Thank you! Batman would be a great next run! Post Crisis DC runs in general really! Regardless, great video.
Thanks for all your hard work, these guides are really really handy for a first time reader such as myself. I've just picked up a few of TPB volumes by Mark Waid, however Savage Velocity has just come out recently would you recommend I pick that up and read it first?
Great work on the vid Omar! Had a question regarding the order. Should I start by reading the mark waid run or start from The flash of two worlds? Thanks!
Do the original mark waid trades fit in modern plastic bags? I only buy trades if i can prtect them with plastic bags, otherwise i buy hardcovers or omnibuses.
@@Paradox_Edits DC have solicited the first TPB to collect the Mike Baron run in September this year called "Flash: Savage Velocity" - hopefully after that they will collect all the other issues to go up to the Mark Waid TPB's
Awesome video overview of The Flash, Omar. I’ve been wanting to read about Bart Allen’s time as The Flash, and was able to find the trades for a good price!
Okay so let me start by saying great video! I am new to reading comics and I want to start reading the flash because he is my favorite character, So my question is why are issues skipped from different volumes? For example why is volume 1 issues from 1-10 and then volume 2 is 20-25? Like what happen to the issues in between? Do they not matter to the story or what? Honestly confused.
Welcome aboard! Hey, I think sometimes what happens is the issues are contained in another book, like part of crossover. Or sometimes (and I hate when this happens) they are left out because they weren't written by the writer in the book they are focusing on. But follow the guide, because that is as complete as it gets for now. Until we get more books.
Great Video, I'll have to check out that Max Mercury story when I do an impulse read through. Now I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate, but I do believe that there does exist a collection for the Tom Peyer written issues of Wally's flash Run, That's issues #238-243. The story is titled Fast Money and is collected under DC Graphic Novel Collection which was a series of comic collections that were specific to the UK. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Comics_Graphic_Novel_Collection#Special_issues I believe Fast Money was collected under DC Graphic Novel Collection #113, and it was released within the past couple years. Its kind of random that of all the stories they collected, they picked that one. I'm Hype to get Savage Velocity in May, that gives the first 18 issues of the Wally run, and then hopefully they finish out the Loebs stuff. That's gonna be a fat Trade. The Waid Collection still needs a Book 7 (coming in May), and then a Book 8 (#151-159, 162, 1,000,000, Flash Secret Files and Origins #2, and Life Story of the Flash), and a possible Book 9 if they want to collect his third stint on Wally (plus the All-Flash one shot) and possibly his Brave and the Bold miniseries on Barry. Maybe then we get an omnibus collecting everything? The Silver Age Omni's cover a lot of ground for anyone who wants to read that era of Flash, #105-199, and the four showcase stories. Hopefully DC gets the ball rolling on the Bronze Age stuff.
the Flash tv show of the 90s is what got me to start reading comic books. Flash is someone who seem just like anyone else. that's why I appreciate this character the most.
@@NearMintCondition Thank you. I know it must take time to prepare so I'll wait. These reading order videos help a lot as I don't know much about collected editions. All the comics I've read are digitally only as single issues in India cost a lot. PS: I think you should wait until June as in one of your 2020 collected editions video you talked about William Messner-Loebs run Trade PaperBack which comes out in May. But I read what it collects and it's missing #66 which is the beginning of Sangtee Empire arc and is written my Loebs.
