In the first of a series of podcasts on the recently released Exemplars for Our Time series of publications Dr. Nuri Friedlander speaks to author and series editor Michael Sugich, on the subject of sainthood and the first volume in the series that introduces this much misunderstood subject.
Nuri Friedlander holds a doctorate of philosophy from Harvard University and two master degrees-from the American University at Cairo in Arabic Studies and from Simmons University in Social Work. He served as Muslim Chaplain of Harvard University for five years and Advanced Social Work Fellow at the Danielsen Institute at Boston University. He was a teacher at Phillips Exeter Academy from 2015 to 2019 and joined the faculty of Lawrenceville School where he is presently director of equity and inclusion.
A native of New York, he lived for many years in Egypt, where he served as translator for the Grand Mufti. He went on to study for several years with some of the great living scholars of Syria.
Michael Sugich is the author of Signs on the Horizons: Meetings with Men of Knowledge and Illumination and Hearts Turn: Sinners, Seekers, Saints and the Road to Redemption. He is series editor of the Exemplars for Our Time series and the author of four volumes.
