I wish school teachers knew how much we hated standing out. Especially the ones who punished us for a choice our parents made and we were helpless to oppose.. the negative treatment only reinforced in me the persecution complex and was part of the reason I stayed for as long as I did..

One thing I smiled over was when Clint mentioned the indiscretion of those people he and his wife confided in... no such thing as a private conversation in Jaydubtown. I wish Clint all the best for his future and thanks for sharing his story.

When I visited Melbourne, I spotted a cart witness in St Kilda who was playing candy crush to pass the time.

Thank you Lloyd for your bunker conversation with Clint whose confidence, energy and straight talking shine through. As one kiwi to another, Way to go! I can see Clint and his wife succeeding at whatever they turn their hands to. Life has so much more to offer than the dreary slog of the constricted and insular JW “life”. Clint’s story is an inspiration to those still-in JWs who wonder, Should we stay or leave? Cliff leaves no doubt what decision is the more helpful and rewarding: Leave!

Clint, felt exactly as you did (nearing the end of video), this lasted for 6 years, & continued on a downward spiral with every encounter & dealing with elders, trying to micromanage my life & the way I spent my time, although I’ve never been inactive throughout my 33 years as a devout JW! It's amazing how people wake up, I had faded in the org in between relocating and only fully woke up in the last few months which is basically a year and half after i faded. My biggest issue was not having my own identity and having to be someone I know I'm not and lie to everyone and expect who I believed was God to let me into paradise because I was honest hearted? I said "I'd rather roll the dice in the world"

Loyd thank you for your meaningful work. Now you are saving lifes. I went to the Bethel in Germany yesterday. The mood of the brothers and sisters working there was very low, like if they just got some bad news. I think the Organisation is in fear of loosing power, that is what is making them so agresive.The new Generation of JWs is an online Generation and most of them do not just obey. So hopefully the Tower will fall very soon.

I enjoyed this interview very much. It reminded me so much of what I went through similar to Clint. Depression is a by product of the abuse that this indoctrination has inflicted on us, so I empathize with all that you discussed.

Hopefully, teachers have become more sensitive to these issues more now than then. How could any teacher dislike you because of what your parents make you do. Shame on any educator who has no idea what stress and anxiety this put on us and unfortunately that stress and anxiety lasts a life time.

And that was one of the start to my exit, I had a few. I really can’t remember what I had a question about during a study and I was encouraged to do my own research to verify, so I talked about checking an encyclopedia and I was told use the books from Jehovah’s Organization because that is where I would find accurate information. That just seemed shady to me that is like Phillip Morris telling me to check only their literature about effects of smoking.

20:58 - "Is there anything you want to tell us?" If there is a sentence in this world that triggers me to the point of exploding is that one. I fu(Beep!)ing hate those words!!!! I almost threw something at my TV Set when he said that. But I remembered that I'm not rich and I calmed down.

It's so crazy to me how they always "assist" doubting men and try to keep them in, giving them the luxury of 2 circuit overseers or talks with elders but they absolutely crucify doubting women and there are no second chances or attempts to "help" women. They just immediately destroy and discard doubting women.

What a great interview. There were a few things I really identified with Clint, like all the anxiety and depression, but when you finally accept that that this isn’t the truth and you leave, all that anxiety leaves and the depression eases up so much. When I told my dad I was no longer going to meetings and could no longer be a witness, he asked if it was my depression making me feel this way, I made sure he knew that it wasn’t and that I felt so much better upon leaving. Well done Clint for getting out. I hope none of my family members were involved in your marking talk incident.

Recently, while watching at the cinema the period drama 'The Current War' about Thomas Edison Vs Westinghouse, as I was watching the film set in Pittsburgh during the exact same years that Russell started the Bible students, and seeing the kind of society they lived in, the social circles that the likes of Russell frequented, it made me reflect that coming up with a new religion wasn't so much of a "holy call" but rather a consequence of living in such an intellectual and creative environment. It's like if you didn't invent something... anything...you were a nobody.

I can certainly attest to the fact that when I realized that all the religious doctrine and pressure were just made up by people, it lifted a huge load off me. This life and this world is all there is, at face value, no hidden secrets. Make the most of it!

Carts = dummying them down while we slowly change the doctrine. Most witnesses enjoy it because they don't have to speak to anyone so It's easy to get your hours.

32:53 - I was never invited to do Cart Witnessing. Apparently you need to be a special kind of Witness to qualify to stand quietly in one space and point people to jw. org

I remember when a brother was caught calling sex lines. I remember hearing about when I was ten or eleven. That's right, a kid my age heard about. Everyone knew. That's Christian congregations...

This is a crazy story and an insane marking talk

When I hear folks say they were "trying hard", I wonder. Doesn't that mean the activity felt "unnatural"? Something "real" and "natural" would flow easily, wouldn't it? What's with all the struggle we hear about in JW-land?

I remember growing up before cart witnessing we’d stand on street corners with the magazines to offer. I remember when they announced cart witnessing every one was excited. I was like this is nothing new. And I already knew how ineffective the whole ordeal was. The streets were just littered with the magazines. And we were told not to pick them back up an “ interested “ person might find it and change they’re life. 🙄

Great interview and video as always! A lot of similarities between mine and my ex-husbands situation. His advice at the end is perfect and exactly the advice I would give if I get the opportunity.

We have cart people in our small towns in South Wales. They tend to hang around outside the Job Centre and Bus Station as 2 or 3 people talking to each other. I think they are hoping for people with a troubled life to swim into their net.

"The elders start to sniff that in the congregation there is someone who needs help" - Translation: The elders suspect that someone is about to wake up from the indoctrination and they feel the need to exercise their fake power over him and threaten to either he does and thinks as they say or they will kidnap all his family and friends until he comes crawling on his knees and begs for mercy.

The 1914 theory is what made me wake up upon looking for history proof. I always struggled with this theme 1914 because for me what was important that There was a battle in heaven and down Satan- dates was never important for me! But with the overlapping generation I was trying and struggling the link. So I started looking and seeking! It was eye opening! And found more false things- I’m a PIMO a year now and helping my husband wake up! Oh and if Satan went down according to WT it must’ve been in October - WW1 started in June or July- it was just a coincidence bah! 😕 By the way once again thank you Lloyd and Clint for your time, experience and interview! there is no love in JW'S

What happened to the old "street work", that we used to do? Does cart witnessing replace that? For years, all the way back to the early Rutherford days, witnesses did what they called "street work", standing on a corner, or in middle of a block, holding up the magazines, or other literature, or wearing playcards. Sometimes, they would do this while slowly walking up and down the block. And you didn't need special training or clearance to qualify to do that.

The 607 BCE articles they are discussing at 59:40 are from the October 1 and November 1 2011 Watchtower magazines. The articles are entitled When Was Ancient Jerusalem Destroyed? Part 1 and Part 2. I HIGHLY recommend you read these articles along with Carl Olof Jonsson's rebuttal. I looked at both documents side by side and I was completely shell shocked. My study of all that material, along with the Royal Commission caused me to wake up. You don't even need to be much of a critical thinker to see through the Watchtower's attempt to deceive the congregation. It is obvious. Reading those Watchtowers you get the feeling that something insidious is going on. That is no exaggeration. I was trembling as I read them. The articles do not feel as if they are written for rank and file publishers. The material is purposefully oblique and thick with jargon. The Watchtower knows the average publisher won't care about how significant this subject really is. The organization knows that more and more people are waking up to the fact that Jerusalem did not fall in 607 BCE. These articles feel like they 'getting out in front' of the issue so that there is a line to present to the congregation as more and more publishers get wind of the truth about Jerusalem and then start to have doubts. If the city was not destroyed in 607 then the entire belief system crumbles. And they know it. The fact that they went to the trouble of presenting these two articles - to a worldwide congregation who probably felt like they came out of left field and then shrugged - proves it.

I really enjoyed this interview. I was a bit surprised to hear towards the end of the interview that Clint suffered through a bout of depression while waking up. He seems like such an easy going guy and from what I gathered from this interview, he grew up in the truth in a more relaxed way than normal. But it just goes to show how mentally damaging the Watchtower organization can be even in very subtle ways. I’m shocked at how cold and demonizing that marking talk was. I don’t think that JW’s version of love is really life at all. Thank you for sharing your experiences Clint!

Hi Loyd, My wife and I formally withdrew from the W.T. about 20 years ago. I so much enjoy your program and listen often. I especially felt a kinship with the young man in this episode. We were there for 25 years. Very active the whole time. Had 3 children. After seeing the horrifying effects of W/T life on our eldest children, we resolved to not allow that to happen to our youngest. I was an elder, we pioneered occasionally, always tried to look after the sick and the poor. There was a sickening case of child sexual abuse that we became aware in our final years. We actually had video tape of interviews with the victims. We turned that over to the local elders and nothing whatsoever was done about it. There is major suffering ongoing to this day among the victims. One favor if you could....Can you pass along the artist and title of the music that you use at the closing of your program ? It is a female vocalist. Just lovely. Thank for for your beautiful activism ! We wish you peace ! Greg & Karen

Let's go out the ministry, so we can get coffee. Let's find some english sheep, from all nationalities..." So basically, even pioneer and all jws are looking forward to have a break lolol

Ive found this quite interesting.....(607bce) Its always been my understanding that when secular history/Chronology is compared to biblical chronology and the one differs from the other then a JW will put their faith in the Bible as a more accurate source document. This because they believe that the writers of the Bible were guided by God to pen what they wrote. So it simply becomes a matter of faith. Faith that the Bible is accurate. Faith that it is indeed more than simply a human text. And they patiently wait for the time when further evidence supporting the Bible is unearthed. (However long that takes) For those whom become JW's as adults then they (depending on the accuracy of the information given to them during their studies) come to terms with such discrepancies and simply "Wait on Jehovah" For those that are brought up in the organisation i think it becomes harder to reconcile such historical differences and simply trust in the Bibles chronology. Its clear some/many feel that they have been lied to for most of their lives. Within the congregation i feel that to give a marking talk regarding an individual having doubts, in this case an individual whom was leaning towards secular history carrying more weight than Biblical history was completely unnecessary! This individual and many more like him simply lacked faith in the Bible. Romans 14:1 says to welcome such individuals. To continue to show love to them. Not to shun them not to "Mark" them! This was unchristian. Wrong. Utterly outrageous!

two very quick thoughts: this Clint seems like a standup guy and the community in Sydney is lucky to have him as well. and wow, I left in 2004 because I am gay and Watchtower has spiraled into all sorts of hell since then. I thought my backbiting, gossiping, incestuously run congregation (one elder was father to two others and father in law to another with a grandchild as the sole ministerial servant) was bad.

Not to make light of what happened to Clint but Bro B is a LEGEND.

The marking talk was fascinating and has to be one of the worst botch jobs I have ever heard when it comes to their attempts of manipulating people into not entertaining anything outside of .org...they are really running scared of the real truth now.

I got in the truth at 21 from the door to door ministry. I didn't realize that I am a rarity. 1st that I came in after they found me door to door 2nd that I came in as an adult and not a child.
