The big 3...... Shatner/Kirk was the action, the swagger of the show.... Nimoy/Spock was the brains, intellect of the show.. But De Kelley was the damn SOUL of the show.

In 93 I was working in North Silicon Valley, I wish I had known they did this kind of side presentation. Still a couple years pre-Netscape ( remember them? ) I thought it was all dressing up & waiting in line for an expensive signed 8x10. But, I was also consumed with the Breakthrough Project. Now 30 years later I wish I had gone, and met the man. He seems clearly as unpretentious and "down to Earth" lol pun, as they come. Not even sure who from TOS would be there now. Have you ever been back to one ?

DeForest Kelley's superb performance in _The City on the Edge of Forever_ is one of the underrated factors that makes that the memorable episode it is. He's tremendously important to the plot, and when McCoy talks about "cutting and sewing people like garments," and breaks down, I always get tears in my eyes.

I’ve been a Star Trek fan all my life, I’m 52 now and grew up with the original crew and next gen. This is the first time I’ve seen an interview at length with Mr Kelley. My God, what a kind gentleman he was, a true inspiration, happy with his lot. He is a shining example to some of today’s so called celebrities who are writhing around in virtue signalling and narcissism. This what it means to be a true legend and a genuine star. Thank you for all you gave us Sir.

I saw him at the Sheraton hotel in Southfield, Michigan in the mid 1990s. I saw Shatner back in October (2023) giving a 2 hour speaking engagement at a community college in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He's 92. Shatner talked about a prank he and Nimoy played on Kelley when they arrived on stage, in the morning, for a TOS episode filming. Kelley put a bagel in the toaster then Nimoy called him over for some "help". Shatner then secretly stole the bagel from the toaster. Kelley returned to the empty toaster and put in another bagel upon which Nimoy once again urgently called him over for some help, then Shatner secretly stole that bagel. Kelley returned to the empty toaster, looked over at Shatner eating the bagel and called him a SOB.

Mr. Kelley was a true gentleman in every sense. He followed his own star, and Star Trek and the rest of us were just along for the ride. He was most proud of his Golden Boot award for contributions to western television and movies.

I got too meet DeForest Kelley in 1970 and got to a lunch with the whole Crew of the USS Enterprise and about 4 or 5 Klingons and that was so very cool

I remember as a kid I lived every week day waiting on General Hospital to go off and my mother fade off somewhere so I could watch Fury and then Star Trek. It was my chance to escape from a place I didn't want to be and couldn't any other way. Thank You All for that momentary escape

I'm glad to hear that your mom let you watch it - it's ridiculous but my mom had the idea that it somehow wasn't normal for an adolescent girl to like Star Trek! I was "too interested" whatever that meant, and I was no where near a rabid fan. My dad liked it, though, and he would sneak me into his office to watch Star Trek reruns in secret on his little TV. One time there was a Star Trek convention, I was so excited but there was no way she would let me go- she thought Star Trek conventions were for "losers". My gosh, I'm 63 years old and I realize I'm still angry about this. Sorry.

Thank you so much for uploading this. He seemed so down to earth. That Farewell Star Trek poem brought a tear to my eye when he says about raising a glass to the cast and crew who truly made the Enterprise fly in more ways than one.

His name was definitely Kelly. Hard to believe Trekkers can't remember his name. The Mandela Effect changed it to Kelley.

I don’t know who is more beloved, Spock or Dr. McCoy. Spock is more fascinating to me because of his intellect and inner conflict - a Vulcan forever at war with his human half. But Dr. McCoy is the one I’d rather have as a friend because of his warmth and wisdom and sense of humor. And this video proves that those qualities are real - DeForest Kelly really had those qualities and that fact only endeared him to me all the more.

When I see interviews with De Forest Kelly it seems to me that he was a really fantastic human being . I’m fan of Star Trek since the original series and I think one of the reasons for the success was the cast , including De Forest Kelly. Greetings from a Brazilian physician.🇧🇷🇺🇸

Deforest Kelley who played the Doctor on Star Trek was often approached when recognized by people on the street. Often the person would want to talk about medicine with him. Deforest Kelley would inform the person, that in reality he knows very little next to nothing about medical treatment. And the person would tell him, because of the character Kelley played that he or she became a doctor.
