I used to live near Solo City. Back then when Jokowi was still a mayor, Solo was the envy of the surrounding cities. The little city had progressed significantly with its groundbreaking innovations and people-centered policies. Jokowi had helped to beautify the city by managing slums, restoring public monuments, and bringing the romance of the old sepur kluthuk (steam train) back to the city! Solo is a tiny place, so a little change could be felt so intensely. Jokowi really did work for the city. But now we are talking about the gigantic, far and wide Indonesia. There're more complex problems ahead that need to be solved. I still believe in this humble man. I hope he has all the strength to make this country prosper :)

Something westerners do not understand is that protests are sort of part of our culture in South East Asia...like it's not as big a deal as the host is trying to make it seem. In my country we literally protested once over something involving a big bread company changing their recipe to have loafs be baked with a different type of non enriched flour lol.
