Apr.09 -- Malaysia's former PM tells Bloomberg's Haslinda Amin why he resigned and how he fears Najib Razak, on trial over the 1MDB scandal, could rise to become the Prime Minister again.
To be cheated by a crook is less heart-breaking than to be betrayed by a fake friend. A crook takes your money whereas a fake friend steals your trust.

Pretty much it. Come on, he didn't do a good job as PM7, that's why people getting fed up, PH lost popularity and keep losing in by-elections. And why not, instead of busy working, he was busy plotting to block Anwar, seduced Azmin and his cartel to betray Anwar, having secret meetings with PAS, getting UMNO to jump over to his party. Traitor gets betrayed, he miscalculated Muhyiddin would work with UMNO, he'd want UMNO to jump instead to PPBM. As expected, it bit Muhyiddin hard with UMNO acting all gangster because they are biggest PN component. BS to say Mahathir knew nothing, never involved in this political scheming. Today's situation may not be ideal as he wanted, but at least he is satisfied Anwar was successfully blocked from becoming PM.
Evading questions and not admitting bad decision making, but I kinda admire him for his clarity of thoughts. I mean, he would be sharper 20 years ago, but how many of us can think and speak clearly when we're at 90+ years old?
Mahathir the only who has complete knowledge to a nation without dictatorship but with complete discipline ..M'SIA IS WHAT TODAY IS BECAUSE OF HIM/ SALUTE!!!
@moh kuraiz If only the rest knew and understand... All they did was to curse him, pass rude remarks on him. Cnt blame our pple, they are not the educated type nor ones who read news. But rather choose to listen pple cause words are powerful and can manipulate one's mind. Thanks to najib. He knows his game well. Show sympathy empathy, throw money , talk a bit here there... Tada! He won the heart of many. Tun taught us in a hardway and dun buy pple with money. Even his children he discipline them the same way as us. Discipline pple are very successful people and yet pple said he took the forex money to fend of his children. He is truly a forgotten hero...😰😰😰
I couldn't comment on him whether he had done good or bad. but what I know he is cunning/clever which doesn't justify that he is either a bad or good person too. But definitely he is born the best player in politic over the century. You still have my greatest respect, Dr Tun M.
Kalau TM berkata Dia banyak pengikut n Penyokong skrg ini, ltu adalah bohong, skrg ini Dia sdh dibenci ramai krn Dia adalah Pembohong besar n Penipu besar, Dia tipu Anwar, Tipu PH dll, Dia sepatutnya berhenti drpd politik krn Dia sdh terlalu tua utk Jadi PM sekali lagi, malah Dialah yg menjadi PUNCA UTAMA yg menyebabkan Kerajaan PH Tumbanng baru2 ini. Sedarlah wahai Rakyat Malaysia.
Agreed. Also I don't like when people say it's his 'hidden plan'. We had enough of hidden plans, and at the cost of political turmoil, it's not worth it.
"I am against nepotism... I don't have any of my children in... (mumble mumble)" In politics you mean? You didn't even bat an eyelid with that statement, did you? Conversely I hold deepest respect for you. While on one hand you have done many great things for us, the other took away more than we bargained for, and this is exactly how I do not want Malaysians to live. Unfortunately most have been hoodwinked all this while, and have only known Mahathirism to be the system. Talk to any Malaysian and it becomes blatant the intellectual defecit. Success is rewarded on wrong values. This rotten system will take decades to overwrite. And you are directly responsible for that sir!
Please pray for me, good sir, that one day, I would make a great semi-fictonal story of our country's political affairs in the near future. Probably a novel or a comic.
@@ac_fauzan2805 I wish you all the best in this endeavor sir. A comic book would create the biggest impact, especially if you have a message takeaway for readers to learn from. DM me for feedback or collaboration should you be interested.

this man has became irrelevant since March 2020 when he blatantly dismissed his duties as prime minister of Malaysia and resigned from his position merely for "not having support from his party". He has made a mockery to the mandate given to him by the voters in the last election to oust a government body who champions corruption which is now back in power all because of his stupid decision by resigning as a premier of Malaysia.
While I understand where you're coming from, you also need to understand the reasoning behind his decision. If you lose the majority support of your own party, you're just a rudderless ship. Policies will be harder to implement etc. He was, from day one, pushed to give the position to Anwar. He said it himself, he doesn't mind stepping down if that is what people wanted. He is a Prime Minister, not a Dictator. Democracy and Politics 101. We're not North Korea.
you formally resigned as chairman via letter and when the RoS declarr you are no longer the chairman you now use your lawyers to claim you didnt resign what is wrong with you Mahathir.. just move on....we like the government now without you
I think Mahathir should have been given the opportunity to lead the country for the full-time period. I can remember Anwar was keeping on pressurizing Mahathir to resign, on the other hand, Mohyiddin was ambitious to become the prime minister and was against Anwar. Those who blame Mahathir for not giving up power to Anwar are fools and it was Anwar whose impatience paved the way for Mohiyiddin to become prime minister. Malaysian should not blame Mahathir. They should look back to themselves what was their situation 30 years ago. Malaysians took its development for granted. When they criticize Mahathir they just do not realize how hard did Mahathir work to develop Malaysia while he had to face criticism of western media and other domestic obstacles. The only failure that Mahathir to be attributed to is his failure to create a leader. It was his bad luck as he trusted people (like Najib, Anwar, Mohyiddin) all are incompetent. I have seen Mahathir be the best statesman in the world for the last 30 years. Malaysian young generation should learn from him. If any leader can deliver at least 10 percent of what Mahathir delivered then Malaysia will be another Japan in Asia. May Allah bless Malaysia
He should have kept his promise and pass over power to Anwar as he had promised the rakyat in pru 14. It was the the promise made if u have forgotten read wikipedia just type pru 14 but then he started his old games. As a leader he is so so nothing great. Other better leaders that were never given an opportunity cause he stayed for so long and removed anyone who was any good. Thats why no prime minister should sit in office for more then 2 terms. Give others a chance to lead the country. Thats true democracy
@@paulheah so if u primised your friend to give him a millions bucks and your friend and your friend keep pestering u for the millions will ever give your pal that millions?
I can't imagine Muhyiddin has the balls to sit for an interview. He has yet to even openly be interviewed by anyone except on government controlled media. Mahathir is truly a leader that I am as a Malaysian can be proud of.
I admire this man! he turned KL into a major metropolis with global connectivity and within 20 years it became a top-notch tourist spot. And even now he has such impressive ambitions for the country.
Mahathir never helped the ordinary people, he only helped his cronies. Plz stop the advertisement that Mahathir is going to make Malaysians rich with his investment scheme.
if there is anyone who should show gratitude to Tun, it is his own kind as he had only cared for their upliftment, not the minority communities whom he had not shown any concern, karma hits him back, his own kind want him out, speaks volumes about their gratitude or lack of
First, he resigned as PM then he resigned as PPBM Chairman. Now he wants to be become PM of Malaysia again and become Chairman of PPBM again. All these things happened with 4 months (Feb to May 2020)

From the comments here, most of you are just too young to know what kind of PM he can be for Malaysia. You liked the Malaysia just before his role as 7thPM? Think properly. There is no utopia here. There is always a trade-off to be made. It was so difficult to bring Jib and gang to justice. The entire integrity of the government service is infected by bribery and acceptance of bribery as a way of life. You want another PM? Who else can lead the country. Not just be the PM. Anyone can be PM. Who can lead Malaysia?
Kita semua boleh terus menyokong TS Muhydin dan PN....good job so far. Untuk NR untuk datang balik, tutup pintu seketat2nya...UMNO lama telah mati. UMNO perlu bangun dengan orang dan semangat baru.
Satu realiti politik yg menyedihkan. Ini adalah akibat ego yg terlampau tinggi, tak reda dgn takdir Allah. Jadikanlah ia sbg iktibar kpd kita semua. Slmt hari raya.
All the political turmoil was due to Dr M's own miserable mistake..He had already resigned as PM on 24 Feb after losing support from his own party..And yet he still agreed to be nominated as PM as the 3rd time on 29 Feb...PH had already nominated Anwar as the PM with 92 votes..Dr M shld have thrown his support with 63 votes to Anwar as PM as promised..The political clout would have been settled by then..
Majority of Malaysians wants Tun M to continue to be the PM until end of 2020 atleast. Anwar and his supporters were impatiencely forced Tun M to handover the post, eagerly to take over the post in the Q2 2020 after less than 2 years. However, Malaysians are very lucky since the King appointed Mahyuddin instead. We believe Mahyuddin destined to be the PM (despite Malaysians are disappointed with Barisan Nasional coalition team in the new government's administration).

Well, everyone cheer for PH after election. Only their stupid act and mahathir ruined themselves. Same will goes to PN, PN will even worse, mark my word.
Nur Nadir, Malaysians did not take mahathir for granted, in fact mahathir took the government and the people for granted for 22 years to develop a multi billion business under the company called Malaysia ! His family was his share partners and perhaps you might have been under his cronyism empire ! What was your commission for each project created by mahathir's government ? Given a chance, anybody in his position would have made Malaysia better than Singapore with no inequality and marginalization with the blessed resources in the country. The Malay first game was his success for his 22 years in power. Yet the Malays are still struggling on poverty line for basic needs and food while the ignored Malaysians are still fighting for their rights. Najib, Anwar and Muhyddin (you left out Badawi) was his target to continue profiting. Unfortunately Anwar didn't fall into his trap, and that cost him approximately 15 years in prison. Why are you portraying that he is the only citizen of Malaysia to create a leader and the rest are incompetent ? Well what about his children who have crossed a century and still incompetent under their father's wing ? IF he retires from his greeds, Malaysia would certainly prosper ! A good leader would have passed on the power and position to his successor amicably in his two years assignment. But even at his age he refuse to retire until his last pride , dignity and respect is dropped !! What majority is he talking about at this age ??????? Are you dreaming on that your son will be the only competent candidate ??
Tun, ...at the cost of every thing the Malaysian people work so hard to achieve in the hope for Malaysia, u resigned, irregardless of your promise to pass on the baton. Nevermind about Chinese or Indian or Malay Muslim, we need Malaysia to progress. And Tun, with all due respect, Your legacy is for others to remember you by base on their aspiration or regrets.

Yeah with his government lackluster attitude during handling of the outbreak, Malaysia could have shared the same fate as the UK. The case in Malaysia has the same genome type as those in Wuhan. Mahathir, Anthony Loke, Azizah all had given ridiculous reasons to hide the fact that they had prioritized $$$ over people's lives. So , what's wrong with Bumiputera policies . Not denying non Malays of anything . Malays are still bound by the same laws that bind non Malays . Comply by same laws , pay the same bills , same fines , etc etc . Only slightly more privileges . You people can have statues of your dieties anywhere . In India , a statue of Jesus Christ was disallowed by hardline Hindus . In India , Muslims are savagely killed on mere suspicion of consuming beef . You have the lower caste like Dalits doing filthy jobs , reserved for them only . The despicable caste system was not even considered in the " Bumiputeras " eyes when granting cituzenship to Indians ( aptly , Tamils ) . Your forefathers were treated more humanely here than in their country of origin . I know all about the plight of the indentured labourers in the estates at the hands of their supervisors . Evidently , some habits die hard , even when in another country . In short , count your blessings . Whatever disgruntlements non Malays experience here are nothing the plight minorities , particularly Muslims undergo as minorities . So , shut up .
Oh , yes . The statue in question is in Kerala . Here in Malaysia ( Gombak ) a statue of a Hindu diety towers above everything else , in a Muslim majority area .
Both of your arguments is the reason why the racial tension in this country is palpable. At the time said "Bumiputera policies" were brought in, bumiputera were among the communities stricken in poverty. It was supposed to only serve for a short while but was extended thanks to inept leaders What's wrong with an Indian statue? That statue that you made fun of is a religious symbol that honors them. It also spurred tourism and brought exposure to our country. What would you feel if they complained about the Muslim's call to prayer? Both of you showed exactly what is wrong with Malaysia today. Cherry picking politics and gas lighting tactics employing plankton. You know what both of you are called? Racists

Tun was already the PM what is the idea of resigning? Tun had no qualm in making known his feelings and ideas in AI being the next PM. AI has and has not of his supports from parliament and the people of Malaysia but the fact is about the honoring of Tun's word and promise and Tun at this moment has allowed, if it wasn't his optional plan of this present government is anyone's speculation.

When he wanted to be PM, he ask all in PH. In time of test, why he did not ask those who appointed him as candidate for PM7? Not honest, must tell what was his actual plan.
I don't know why people are so crazy over Anwar to be PM. Anwar is the biggest ass kisser among local politicians (so is Najib) and did little for the country. Tun M is the bravest statesman and he doesn't mind being hated for the sake of this country.
