Holy crap will you shallow trolls get off the music, FFS, it's like reading a bunch of children every week in the comment section. Let me type this slowly: if...you...don't...like...the...music...click/skip...it. Boom, problem solved. You're welcome.
Maybe Sam is just trying to double down. In 2016 he was so convinced that Hillary Clinton was a more electable candidate than Sanders, because she was a moderate and "practical". Then she lost in a near-landslide
@Reflex Agree with you generally. I could have specified that our last election was an "electoral" landslide, but I did not because US presidental elections are determined by the Electoral College, so I felt it goes without saying that the issue of whether or not a US presidential election is a landslide boils down to the margin of victory in the Electoral College. Anyway to your other points, I share your sentiments towards the silliness of the electoral system and what repubs do to gerrymander or perform voter suppression.
No shit, he literally was acting as though Bernies comments on Iran 40 years ago are irredeemable today, only to proceed to act as though Bloomberg's stop and frisk policy could easily be forgiven if only he could string together a solid response to the criticism. Give me a fucking break Sam, what the fuck happened to you? Stop and Frisk is perhaps second only to the Iraq war as the worst policy blunder post 2000, and you're worried about a 40 year old comment from a mid-30s Sanders?? He also acted as though the young are only unphased by the word socialism because we don't understand our history, equating Sander's socialism to USSR, Venezuela and the like. What an ivory tower elitest take. Thank god Paul was remotely sensible through this whole thing.
@@gerrywallington And where exactly do you listen to it at? he's not just asking for a sub, he's asking for many people to change platforms. That might not seem like a huge ask, but unfortunately it is. Just ask all these startups trying to cut into RU-vid. - People who listen to his podcast on youtube are more likely to a pay a sub, then they are to switch platforms. They probably listen to all of their podcasts here. They get notifications that let them no when all of their favorite shows have a new update, in one spot. For them, he's asking them to also check a separate service for his content. - I happen to listen to most podcasts on an app, that I payed money for, on my phone. There is no way to get Sam's sub feed on there. Honestly, I'm not going to take two convince steps back in tech just to listen to his show. As he would put it, it's just not that valuable to me. Again, it's not just the 6$ a month, which I do feel is a little high, but it's also the format. He's making his show harder and less convenient to access for the people willing to pay. How this cost escapes him is beyond me. He's just not that savy in this way, I guess.
He'll give it to you if beg real nice😂. All jokes aside his podcast has been very instrumental and influential to me and my sobriety. It's worth every penny imo. I have found it comically ironic how the center theme of his philosophy keeps you from asking for the podcast for free when you can afford it. It's like, if that's what you're doing, you obviously haven't been paying much attention and maybe you do need the other half. Thanks again Sam.
He explained a million times.. it used to be the intro. He has to make money (everyone does, plus podcasting is his career now) and he doesn’t want to rely on ads because it’s a pain to vet companies and also then corporations would have potential leverage on him
Massive miss regarding Bloomberg. He IS a special interest, actually several of them, inherently due to his corporate and private holdings. Where Trump is an incompetent self interested person, Bloomberg is a competent one. Which makes him FAR FAR more dangerous and destructive to our democracy than Trump. Bloomberg vs Trump would force me and many others to vote Trump for the first time, and split ballot.
Please watch The Hill’s Rising show (or read The Populist’s Guide to 2020: A New Right and New Left are Rising). You are missing a huge part of the equation and it is making you look bad. We know you are much more capable with the right data at hand.
@@bobbybee2975 Agreed. He will literally take an oligarchic elitist buying the election and stealing at a brokered convention, potentially destroying the Democratic party forever just to get (in his delusional estimation) a leg up on Trump. How does he not see that Trump enacts the same corporatist, military-industrial-complex, American imperialism, wall street policies that all his predecessors did, and Bloomberg will too. Sure, hate Trumps personality, but you are sacrificing real change for the status quo JUST to rid a personality you disdain.
@@atlehman69 honestly Trump's personality has grown on me, being told to shut the fuck up and that I'm a racist/sexist because I'm a white male certainly helped but the reaction from the establishment (using russian misinformation the DOJ/FBI/CIA KNEW was false to basically start a coup) makes me think he might not be the military complex lapdog all other presidents have been. Still a long shot as he is surrounded by many of the same warhawk neocons/libs as other admins but other admins have been covered for by these establishment cronies, while they do nothing except attack Trump so maybe the MAGA people are right to have some hope he is 'draining the swamp' but I won't believe it until they start arresting and proving the guilt of these people.
This is what is shoving people away from Sam and fast. Half a video is half-assed. Either take your content off youtube and stop using it to advertise for your podcast, one that's suppose to teach people something, or put the whole thing on there.
How can anyone listen to a moral thinker like Sam pick apart Trump and walk away pretending as if he isn't ethically bankrupt? I think Sam denigrates his intelligence too much, like I don't expect Trump to be a rigorous political science expert, but the complete lack of a moral compass...
Mr. Harris, your "Waking Up" podcasts were better in all aspects. The background, the intro music, and the overall tonality of the podcasts I listened to was just something incredible I always looked forward to, and your viewer count agrees with me.
Paul Bloom gets it, Sam you need to go into therapy to regain some sanity about the current political situation. If you cannot see any Merit in Trumps administration your critisisms are likely a dudd. Paul, the starting story should have ended with the question: “How likely is this to be a guy like Trump?” For the same reason that the outcome of the chaotic democratic primaries is likely to yield a guy like Bernie.
Lol this did not age well. I'm listening mouth agape at what I'm hearing you say about the electability of Bloomberg AMD Warren. Jokes! First of all, there isn't a single candidate that can beat Trump for all the charismatic reasons you state, and then you go on to say Bloomberg is the dragon slayer? Loooool. Love your work Sam and it has changed my life but you gotta have this conversation at the Comedy Store with Joe
@@Sampsonoff I don't think it's greed, he's wealthy enough. I think it's more about culling the casual listenership and distilling his audience down to the people who are better aligned with him politically, aka those willing to pay to hear him rant about Trump for half of every episode. (But it's also greed)
Getting paid for doing a job isn't greed, it's a perfectly natural thing to do. What isn't natural is to expect someone to give you things for free. Just because someone is rich doesn't mean they are obligated to give you things for free.
Whether it's greed or something else, I used to enjoy his thoughtful discussions, and I could forgive his TDS. This (free) episode was not much more than a rant about orange man bad.
Notice how Sam never mentions any of Trump's policies. This can only mean one of two things: he doesn't know what they are, or he agrees with them. I suspect the latter.
"You said mean things about women" - Meghan Kelly .... "Correction: only Rosie O'Donell!" - Donald Trump. Even you, Sam, have to admit that was pure comedy genius.
It WAS obvious. I lost friends and almost all support in my undergrad program telling people that he was setup to win as soon as he came down that stupid escalator.
Sam Harris indirectly but blatantly compares Bernie Sanders to a pedophile. He moves the context around just enough for plausible deniability. But he still said both of those names in the same sentence, a lot like Chris Matthews plausibly compared Bernie to Hitlers generals sweeping into France. You couldn't think of any other analogy? Total faux pas mmmhmmmm. I don't know - feeling something disingenuous. Man I love your stances on meditation and religion in general and find your neuroscience work incredibly interesting but you sure jump off the deep end sometimes.. You have some points but I'm not here to be the choir. That's it... go straight for the oligarch because the French revolution will never reoccur. The moderates are the ones who say "Blue No Matter Who"., so if they drop out and let Trump win, well well well. Alright man.
@Reflex I did not insinuate that he directly compared him to that but Throwing the terms in close proximity has an effect and Sam is very much aware of what he says being a public speaker and debater for many years now. I understood his nuance but I feel he also knows that a lot of people would just hear those words used close together. But yeah maybe Sam is not a careful thinker or speaker. ok.
Hold on. Are they saying that Sam thinks Trump is a no good dumb dumb meanie bad man? That's truly edifying. I need more of this inciteful content. Take my money Sam I feel lost without your wisdom!
I'm starting to think Sam's only good view of politics is Trump bad. I agree with him on policy a fair bit, but strategy and insight into the process of elections is not his forte, to say the least. Also, he is, I can only assume, ignorant of the facts in this area.. which leaves him woefully misguided in his beliefs on the matter.
just ry excellently put. Where he has done his propper research he can make great assessments. But he is cable news informed on politics and thus woefully ignorant in this area.
29:31 Forbes reports, as of March 3, 2020, Mike Bloomberg’s wealth is estimated at $60 billion dollars. Forbes estimated Trump’s worth, as of March 3, 2020, at $3.1 billion dollars. Bloomberg magazine had Trump at $3.5 billion dollars in June of 2019. Forbes gave Trump a philanthropy score of 1. Bloomberg received a score of 5.
@RDE Lutherie I've been listening to Sam since 2001...no I don't know him personally. However, he's off his tits with TDS and for all the wrong reasons...and it seems you might be too. If you can't see that Trump, Obama and Bush are the same when it comes to maintaing the empire with huge debts/more war/easy money/bigger govt, then you're lost to partisan propaganda.
Sam Harris, is incessant about Trump's behavior behind closed doors is asinine - who cares?!?! Does he do the same exercise with other politicians?? Certainly not!
As you listen to Dr. Harris’ incessant denunciations of Trump, take careful note of how much of his harangue is about personality and how little of it pertains to policy.
Please for the love of all that is good in this world tell me one *useful* thing that could be learned from listening to that lesbian soccer mom Kyle Kulinski. Dear god almighty what is wrong with you?
Harris spends much of his day making podcasts. How sharing those podcasts for free will affect Sam's life? It will affect him in ways you can't even imagine. How much will you be affected by not watching the whole podcast? Probably not much. No need mentioning that he always posts some of the podcasts for free. Also, for the music part, just ignore it. You stupid people..
Sam, my friend , my mentor, my guru.. maybe it's politics, or maybe it's Trump, But when ever you speak about Our President its the smallest Sam i know.
@@karagi101 By authority? Look Karagi if you believe you can tell that much about me from a simple comment made to Someone I admire that's some what critical .. how smart could you really be?
21:55 The United States has been infiltrated with socialistic programs and policies since the Progressive Era. In fact, the word “progressivism” was strategically selected as a euphemistic term, calculated to moderate and ease Americans into routinely accepting collectivist policies, rather than frightening them with the dreaded word, “socialism.” Yet, Sam Harris is more worried about Bernie’s customary use of the word, “socialism” than he is the least concerned about the ideology’s established destructive consequences.
sesus6 Trump and Republicans criticize non-stop but if anyone brings up a negative point about their messiah, Trump, they are automatically said to suffer from TDS. How convenient.
Sam's friend Matt Dillahunty likewise says that you do not need God to have morality. His example was two men, whom I will call Ferd and Ansling, are alone on an island. They are naturally moral because they learn that, by being honest, they enhance their lives and chances of survival. Hence, morality is just whatever makes life better. Yet, what if Ferd is obnoxious, annoying, and gluttonous? By killing Ferd, Ansling increases his food supply and gains much relief. Therefore, by Harris' and Dillahunty's defintion, wouldn't murder in this case be morally acceptable? As the world continues to reject the Bible as the foundation for what is real and true, expect that the satanic logic of atheism will bring about more death and destruction. Yet, Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
9:40 I have come to think that what is so effective about Trump insults is that perception of him as the average person's worst instincts. Which by association makes you think that what he thinks of you everybody thinks of you. That combined with such a public stage can provoke social anxiety in anyone.
While I think Sam nails Trumps personality and what makes the man tick he seems to have a blind spot about why people voted for him and why people may vote for Bernie Sanders as well. I thought Trump would win back in 16 and it wasn't because I wanted him to it was because I could see the frustration from people over excessive corporatism/elitism and the little man/woman being lost in the shuffle. People wanted a reset and the felt Trump was the man to do it. When you have a desperate population weird things that you never thought would happen happen.
I feel Sam grossly misunderstands the Trump voter. Nowadays the election seems to sway in the direction of the president that gives the impression that they’ll bring the most change. Such isn’t surprising to be the case when the majority of Americans feel the system isn’t quite working right.
LOL, Ben _Shapiro_ of all people? Wow, two affluent LA Jews who put their nose up at populism & share an Israel-first U.S. foreign policy perspective-both men dislike Trump & Sanders for many of the same reasons. Real 'bubble popping' suggestion, dude.
I’m a big fan and a paying subscriber. I think this new music is not a good fit. The old music conveyed something more profound, the current music is kind of generic and doesn’t fit. Please go back to the old intro 😊
Space Lizard It’s not for no reason. WWE is fine for what it is, but you wouldn’t want a character from WWE leading the country, barking out dramatic over the top rhetoric.
Space Lizard : I hear you, I think you’re reading into it too much. He’s not suggesting that the WWE guys are actually that way in real life, he’s just saying that trump acts like a “character” from WWE. That’s how I took it any way.
To counter all of the negative comments about the new music- I think it's GOOD.... adds something to the start of the show. And Sam can be ridiculously funny sometimes how he describes Trump LOL
I’m scared if Bernie is the nominee. I’m thinking I’ll actually hold my nose, close my eyes, muffle my ears, get drunk to dull my senses, then vote for Trump. Bloomberg Biden 2020 please if there is a god
I like that Sam showing us what's going on beyond the paywall with these Paul Bloom mini releases and the bomb episode. Makes me happy that I didn't take the plunge. Sam has had serious Trump derangement ever since the election and it seems to have progressed to the point that he can't focus seriously on other things and makes basic logical errors when ranting about Trump. Trump is living rent free in your head Sam and it makes it difficult to even listen to nowadays. Simply, I don't want to hear regurgitated news talking points about Trump with the Harris spin on them over and over.
Sam, my issue with this new paywall model isn’t even the money. It’s how you’re essentially forcing people to download yet another app, as if we don’t have enough of those already. Why make life harder for us?
Bill Lyons ok, but it’s still another place I have to go to. Between RU-vid, podcasts app, and Audible, it’s a fourth, and very unnecessary extra place I have to go to to listen.
Lock her up.....The question is did she do something that a republican would have been locked up if they did it... Yes.... Sam is blinded by his hate.. he has TDS bad
Sam Harris, the Chauncey Gardner of the internet, I guess. Because, if Trump is a Chauncey Gardner figure then so is everyone in every position. Imposter syndrome is true after all. Nah, all this Chauncey Gardner stuff is just weird rubbish, a flight from political perspicacity.
Sam, you became religious. Trump speaks like a normal man, not like a talking head, that's it. And he makes things done, the right things, including canceling the bad things like taxes and regulations. Isn't this what an "ideal" politician should be? He is the opposite of authoritarianism. Think again.
_"Trump speaks like a normal man"_ Where do you spend your time, in a geriatric insane asylum? If this is your "normal" then you have a very bizarre and sad life. Just...wow.
S314159265358979 Normal? Who do you hang around with? The man is incoherent. He contradicts himself in the same paragraph. The tax cuts for you are puny compared to the taxes saved by the rich. The regulations he’s cutting are there to protect people and the environment.
S314159265358979: being proud is one thing, but being an egomaniac is another. There are countless people who are highly successful who don’t speak or behave in this manner. It’s seems like your allegiance to trump and presumably the Republican Party has made you blind to something that is objectively quite obvious. If he wasn’t the president of your party you would likely have no problem seeing that. I’m an independent voter and not some blinded biased “libtard”. I’m just a a fan of reality, rationality, and objective reasoning.
