I am a naturalised Singaporean living in London. Listening to PM Lee is SUCH a breath of fresh air > the clarity of thought, the diplomacy and sensibility. It makes British politicians look like buffoons.
His professor also did mention that if he didn't have to return to his country to serve mandatory national service, he would have been able to get a Nobel prize in mathematics
His father had set the standards very very high for him. Also, Now what you are watching is his last few years serving Singapore.. he will retire soon...
he thinks just like trump which is nice and new would be the new norm when obama got his second term, walls and rules going up, no open borders for all countries. wise man yes.
I am a Singaporean living in China for the last 13years. I can honestly say we Singaporeans have been extremely fortunate to have had the visionary leadership of late MR Lee Kuan Yew And now PM Lee Hsien Loong.
@@beatneek100 From Reddit, "people paid by the [Chinese] government to spread CCP propaganda on the internet. Supposedly, they're paid 0.5rmb (5 mao) per comment. Calling somebody a wumao is basically calling them a Chinese government shill. It's Chinese internet slang." Lee Hsien Loong is not a wumao.
Ali Selamat I am singaporean, obviously we realise that if not the government wouldn’t have a strong mandate of 70% approval rates. As every open democracy, false news and outside political forces are trying their ways to undermine it.
You can tell, unlike other leaders of western democracies, PM Lee was groomed to be a leader from young & has grown into the role. The poise, knowledge & wisdom is unparalleled. We will be lucky to see another father-son succession that is as successful as LKY & LHL.
Haha, not LHL’s son, think he said they are not interested. Maybe LHY’s son, he seems more interested in geopolitics and do have an independent and critical mind BUT this could be a challenge.
Well-educated, topnotch understanding of the society, very well versed, one of the most intelligent people living on earth right now...not to mention full of charisma! He took after his dad!
No leader is perfect but I still think Singapore is fortunate to have PM Lee Hsien Loong. And this journalist seems like he's a mouthpiece of the US government trying to impose a certain political position.
Yes, but you can see that the person himself is reluctant to force the PM as well. He always smiles when the prime minister counter the question perfectly. Even adding satire that not only China's Huawei, but also US's mobile phone also use the same type of bug to spy as well. The journalist also very efficiently asking a very important follow-up point when the question has no political elements.
Wonderful Lee's Son has strong solid background from his father charisma talent when it comes to how strong he is prepared to reply, Congratulations dear PM 🙏🏼🤚🦅 I wish and hope in Africa kind of like you will reach us in soon as well 🤚😍🦅🦅🦅
"I'll leave it to the people to judge, I have done my best", these are the words that only those who truly put in a lot of work would say. Because deep down they know they have done their best, so what is there to be judged? Singapore is, unfortunately, just a very tiny country, and there are way too many superpower countries in this world. What PM Lee has done for Singapore is more than enough, and I hope Singaporeans can be more appreciative, its all expensive and hard work to live in Singapore for the lower-middle class locals, mostly) But nothing worth having comes easy, if you're Singaporean thinking that you're living as a corporate salve, think about what have you contributed to Singapore, and instead of hating on Singapore of what you're not passionate about, be daring enough to do the things that you want in life. Sure its not as stable as corporate jobs, but a country itself doesn't OWE any citizenship of its goals/fantasy. People pay for what's worth, would you rather pay $1 for a grain of rice or karat of a diamond? So the next time you want to complain about Singapore again, try to think about it this way, but this time you're the item, how much are you worth to the country, how much value can you provide for Singapore? Before you start complaining about how Singapore has not done anything for you.
Am a singaporean, our system continuously produce people of such caliber and yes as always there are people who likes them and people who don’t like them. Our future prime minister will be as good. We are thankful to both LEE PM. Our other ministers are all highly capable.
Hope so, so far the next generation of potential PM remains that, haven’t been entirely convincing. Maybe we have to skip the 4th gen as seat warmer much like the 2nd gen. Just to be fair we are talking about clear outstanding talent, not any PM. The odds are not great.
I came to watch this after the US presidential debate to calm my nerves and reassure myself that there are still leaders out there that have the will and calibre to fight for geopolitical stability
@Hoàng Nguyên That is fact, but the Khmer rogue is thankfully destroyed by Vietnam; and to dwell on SG's past decision is stupid and short sighted. Singapore-Vietnam relations are much more better now that the communist scare is gone, focus on that instead.
@____________ so? Isn't u PRC communists are stealing technologies, trying the dominate Asia with failed communist ideologies together with yr Viet Cong friends?
It's very interesting that the prime minister speaks in the manner a mathematician or an engineer speaks - considering the logical possibilities, weighing the facts, and arriving at as astute a judgement as can be attempted. It is very unfortunate that the world is not ruled by people who are as transparent in their thinking. Rather, it is rampant with people who put their agendas above the facts, and obfuscate the real issues in an attempt to posture or tell a story that fits the narratives they like best. If there is anything I enjoy about the prime minister, it is his simple frankness.
Singapore : " Each country has its own interests to take care and protect, let's not over simplified by saying that if i sided with one and not the other, the complex issues facing our world today is going to disappear overnight. I am just a tiny island nation in world map. "
@Yen Tao I believe the difference is we are DEFENSE partners but not attacking allies. We are not obligated to to send troops if US wants to attack any country but we would send troops to help defending if anybody in this world is crazy enough to attack US.
@Yen Tao I hope you understand that there are at least 300 million Muslims in Southeast Asia. Singapore did a job to pull our neighbors together not to get into US and terrorists cross fires. There is of course a difference between defense partners and allies, if not a person of the status like PM Lee would not correct the interviewer. It is not paper difference, it is obligation difference. For e.g. we would not attack China with US if US decided to do so. Neither would we help China to attack Taiwan if it happens. Major non NATO allies receive regulations and financial exemptions under the laws in US which Singapore rejected to be just to stay neutral. Ally status would drag Singapore into unnecessary conflicts that we do not desire. That is also the reason why N Korea Kim is willing to meet in Singapore and Vietnam because both are not ALLIES of US.
Imo the American accusation of the Huawei security threat was somewhat biased, hence it's not an easy answer to give. The irony is that the American govt once tried to get Apple to give the govt access to their systems cuz Apple's security was ironclad. So i feel that it's mainly that Huawei didn't give the American govt sthg that they wanted. Anw being a politician involves not answering questions that you're not ready to answer, so I think he responded fairly.
Mr. Lee is well learned and have common sense. Sure Trump is the negative example. I think a lot of people see Trump as a joke, even government leaders. Trump is the least decent political leader I have ever heard.
Hi, as a Singaporean, I would like to say we do not need another Lee Kuan Yew at the moment. LKY style is excellent to build a strong foundation in turmoil times. GCH style is good to correct all shortfalls and fine tuning. LHL style is great to propel to the next level and excel in the highest level. We need different leadership in different levels. Hence, Singapore's next leader would be one that fine tune and correct gaps in the highest level. Maybe we would need another LKY in the 5th generation, we would find one.
I am in awe of Mr.Lee Hsien Loong's articulation and clarity of his policies. meanwhile in India we have have a nincompoop as prime minster. No way brainwashed modi bhakts can be convinced of how pathetic their choice of Prime Minister is.
LHL made the journalist sound like a dumb dude, journalists nowadays are just trying their best to push their personal agendas/on behalf of their publications.
William Cheng - maybe they want him to make feel uncomfortable and get distracted by the cold. Who knows our PM remained so steady and answered so eloquently! Feel so proud!
You are talking to a man not only with a proven pedigree but whose young student citizens in grades 4 and 8 are some of the world's top achievers in TIMMS, PIRLS and PISA for the past 2 decades.
From the question asked by the interviewer you can tell the American way of thinking is indeed binary, to them, it’s either you are with me or against me, they couldn’t grasp the idea of being prosperous together and foster a win-win situation which benefits everyone involved. Just see how he keep pressing the Prime Minister of Singapore about China and Huawei issues and accused him for not caring just because a sovereign country has a mind of her own instead of following EU and US, which explains why US is losing influence on the global stage.
