I would’ve never guessed anyone could beat Theo at a game of “We had this one guy.”

I saw a guy fall off a roof and die instantly. We were less than a foot apart working and he fell only 11 feet, landed on his head. I got down to help as quickly as I could, but it was obviously too late. His eyes were open and looking in completely different directions. I didn’t think it effected me much, but I brought flowers to the site the same night, by myself, and I lost it. Cried like a baby. I didn’t even know the guy.

I found my youth basketball coach dead when I was 11 years old. We were having practice when our coach went missing for a little while. No one thought anything of it until I went to use the restroom and found him dead on the floor. Heart attack, poor guy didn't even get to zip his pants up and died on the bathroom floor alone. I'm 29 now but I think about him everyday, he was a good man. RIP Woody Anderson Sr.

This dude was 10times more interesting than other channels constant talk with vapid, self involved celebs. I think this kind of smart, real people interview and discussion is brilliant Theo!

I love that Theo talks to regular people, not just other celbrities.

Here in England, there was a TV program about medical incidents. One of which was a man had had a heart attack and an ambulance had attended. He was put in the back on a stretcher with no pulse, despite resuscitation attempts. Another ambulance sped up the road and hit the back of the first ambulance....... This impact restarted the man's heart, and he lived on. Weird or what?

"She had no arms, so we knew something wasnt right." Its always inspiring to see someone that is so proficient in thier craft

The similar energy between these two is both unsettling and highly amusing.

My first traumatic death call as a firefighter was for a guy who was working on his truck in his yard and it had fallen off the jack and pinched him in half at the sternum like a tube of toothpaste. I could deal with with graphic scenes, but the unbelievably deafening wailing from the wife and kids who came home to find him fucked me up for a good bit. I still hear them sometimes at night. Can also confirm that cats will begin to eat you not long after you die.

One time I was driving an uber for an EMT and he just started telling me about the time he pulled up to a scene where a man was locked in the bathroom trying to use a wine bottle as a dildo, the bottle broke and he passed away. He said the hardest part was dealing with the dude's mom who was knocking on the door trying to get her son to open the door, only for her to realize what happened and how her son died. Then he made me pull over to catch a Pokemon in Pokemon Go

My dad was in a boating accident and was lost in the water for more then 24hrs he was found under a dock, had to go see him and I don’t think it should be anyone’s wish to see what I saw , RIPDAD 😔

My best friend of over twenty yrs died of huffing. She was actually found in the Walmart bathroom deceased. Hardly anyone talks about that topic, thank you for touching on that.

As a caregiver that last part really hit home. We are taught that if you ever get “used” to the process of a patient dying, then you need to get into another profession. You cannot convey empathy to the family during the grieving process if you are already numb to it.

My cousin died alone in her house and wasn't discovered for weeks. She always talked about her dog she loved so much. In time the dog had no choice but to eat her. Firefighters were taken aback once they saw the scene inside. RIP Marie

Amazing to see that whenever Theo asks the most random questions he gets a ‘yeah..one time there was this..’ must be totally new for Theo. This feels like the coroner is like an older cousin and theo is asking stuff he did not know he would not want to have answered. Great stuff hombres

One of my coworkers didn’t show up for 2 weeks. We went to his house, his car was in the driveway. We walked up to his house there was rotten food sitting next to his grill. We walked in. He was laying there in his underwear, he was twice the size,yellowish blue with lines all over him like big veins, his face was melted off with maggots pouring out, flys everywhere. I could literally taste the smell. I will never forget that. He had a heart attack.

He's very frank and down to earth. He's the guy I'd want to find my body and let my family down easy.

My sis was hit twice. When she was 3 and 34. She didn’t survive being hit at 34yrs old. I was the one to go identify her. Her face was serene and had a slight smile. She was covered, head to toes - in horrible bruises made even more evident by the hospital lights. I touched her and cried. But, the JP and coroner were kind and thoughtful. RIP to all those lost too soon

My best friend when I was 5 drowned at her bday party… I didn’t see her… we just were told to leave with our parents asap. That was that. Still very sad to this day 30 years on.

I swear this guy was the best guest. He made me laugh as much as Theo.

I used to work in the office of a rescue agency. One of the best tales came from a fella on the scuba team. Someone had killed himself and chained himself to the bottom somehow. It was during a flourescent algae bloom. Every time the surge from the waves went by, the corpse GLOWED and danced along.

I found a body when I was about 10yrs old. My parents worked at a bar with railroad tracks that ran behind it. I used to hangout and talk to a homeless dude who lived back there. I was walking down the tracks and saw him leaning against the bridge, eyes open but not moving. After trying to get his attention, me and my friend started throwing rocks at him and he still didn't move..I hit him with a stick a few times and still nothing. So, I went Into the bar and told my parents. My dad came out and looked, then called the cops. My mom tried telling me he was just sick and my dad said "don't lie to the boy" and proceeds to tell me I just hit a dead guy with a damn stick..I'll never forget that day. That unfortunately wasn't the only time I've found someone dead. I was also present for my friends murder when I was 12 but that ones hard to talk about...been over 20yrs and that still fucks with me.

I grew up in an EMS family and volunteered in search and rescue and "accidentally" finding a body unprepared is near the very bottom of my bucket list.

It's not as fun as you'd think, finding a body! I found my neighbor, passed away, Christmas night, I was just checking on him bc his sister had asked me to go over bc he wasn't picking up his phone, poor guy had a stroke and didn't make it. But I saw his face for a while everytime I closed my eyes. It was not a good thing.

I really enjoyed this interview The coroner's compassion is amazing. So many people who deal with death as a career become almost jaded or harden because it's natural to respond to repeated trauma by going numb.. but this guy seems to really support the families of the deceased. Good for him, I wish more people were as caring & compassionate

My son was suicidal and was crossing a bridge where he saw an attractive woman about to jump and he yelled fir her to stop and not jump. Suicidal thoughts seemed to have gone. Poor woman was 20 devastated about a broken relationship...i pray for my children and there welfare each day. Take care of each other please.

I was 5 when I saw a corpse it was a lady that used to sell candy and ice cream. Apparently some guys were trying to rob her then stabbed her. I'll never forget that crystal clear memory. At 13 I was riding my lil dirt bike and I saw a man in the ditch next to the road black shirt and Jeans. I was too afraid to call 911 so I stopped one of the adults passing by and let them know. Not even 10 mins later there was yellow tape all around. And the last one I was 15 and was going to my friend house and once I turned in his street there was a guy laying in the street and I heard ppl yelling that he just got killed with a bat, this is the first time I saw the cops arrest the suspect he was hiding in a neighbors yard. Welcome to Houston texas. Thankfully I haven't had to witness that lately and don't plan to. That stuff really gives u vivid nightmares more then I ever thought, specially the 2nd one I don't know why... I am now 28 thank you for reading my comment, I honestly feel like I got some weight off my shoulders, and I wish whoever is reading this the best in life sincerely.

When I worked as an EMT in a rural area I responded to a few like this. Suicides, OD’s. and natural causes mostly. One that stands out is a guy about 400+ pounds who was dead for at least a week in a trailer bathroom in the middle of summer. We had to get him bagged, moved and transported. Once you go through something like that you can handle almost anything.

Thank you so much for doing this podcast episode with another fellow Deputy Coroner/Coroner. Our profession is severely underrated amongst Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS etc, and the public in general don’t typically know what we do. Thank you for shedding light on what it is we do and go through by bringing someone on who’s an expert of the subject. I always love hearing other Deputy Coroner’s case stories and I’ve had a few similar ones as this gentleman has had.

Saw my 1st dead body when i was 20. My gf's mother had some issues.. So, one day my gf called me to go check on her mom bcuz she wasnt answering the phone for anyone. What i saw when i got there, i wasn't ready for. I noticed the tv on in her bedroom, so i went in and noticed she was propped up in her bed, but had the covers over her head. I pulled the blanket back and there she was. 🔫 underneath her chin, eyes bulged out, blood everywhere. I'll never forget that "gone" look and the grey eyes. The saddest part about it all was.. you could tell she was crying before she pulled the trigger. Not only that, but seeing as how she pulled the covers over her head to prevent a bigger mess for her loved ones.. so much sadness behind all of it. It will stick w/ me forever. (Another sad side note to this: She had asked if i could get her a 🔫 the month before, i said no. So what does she do? Asks her daughters ex-bf to get her one, and he did. We found the withdrawal slip for 5K, made out to him.)

I found a body floating in local creek when I was a kid. I remember telling people in the neighbourhood and one person i.told turned out to be her father. Still gives me shivers.

A buddy of mine was a coroner, he has a very twisted sense of humor and always joked about carrying his 9mm with him just in case he gets a call when someone isn't actually dead yet. The other was he wanted to follow ambulances with the hearse lol

One of the best conference i attended was from a nurse who served as a coroner ; Virginia Lynch McKenna. Fueled my interest as a Forensic nurse. Now, I'm in Forensic Psychology. Coroner s and ME's are incredible people.

Born and raised in Louisiana. I rolled up to a body two years ago. She was hit by a car walking home from the grocery store and left on the side of the road. Her groceries were all over the place. It was heartbreaking and my kids were with me.

I love the fact that Theo has random real life people and interview about their job, not a regular job after all but at least not a celebrity

"Do you think he had any intel or he just got lucky?" Theo never fails to crack me out with the random shit his says. Finding a dead body has never been a bucket list item for me, but I can see where Theo is coming from.

For some reason the talk of finding bodies brought my mind back to a serial killer we had here in England known as 'The Grindr Killer' (4 victims). His first victim, Anthony Wallgate (R.I.P). He brings Anthony back to his flat (apartment) and after raping & murdering him, drags the body out to the pavement (sidewalk), uses his own phone to call an ambulance telling them that he was driving past and had seen, "a young boy collapsed or had a seizure or was drunk" then went back into his flat. Somehow the link to him was missed. Victims 2 and 3 were both dumped in a graveyard. A fake suicide note was left with Victim 3 stating he was responsible for the death of Victim 2 and so killed himself because of the guilt. These two bodies were found by the same woman walking her dog, on 2 separate occasions!

2:06 Ive worked at my family's Motel since I graduated in 2015. I've seen a handful of dead bodies. The worst was when a mother was delivering groceries to her son, & couldn't get him to answer his door. She already knew, because she made me go into the room while she waited in her car. I found him laying facedown, hanging off the bed. I nodded to her, that it wasn't good. She freaked out & i tried to comfort her. It was later that I was informed they found the needle still in his arm when they rolled him upright... He was purple & blue when I found him, & only 27 years old. It really hurt, that she looked like my mother & reminded me of her. It really opened my eyes up.. I could never force my mother to have to go through something like that...

Worst I ever came across was a guy die in the flat a few floors down from me. The poor bstrd had nobody. Died in his living room(irony) and his body started to dissolve into his floor. Luckily the family living below him weren't home one day because the floor collapsed and he ended up across in their living room. He was dead for about 5 months. I've no idea how nobody noticed the smell. This was 1992, in central London on a hot August day. That day i swore to myself I'd keep an eye on any neighbours I had even if they didn't speak to me.

One morning me and my dad were leaving for work when we seen a body of a young lady in the alley across the street from our house. We had called the cops when the lady got up and ran towards our car. Turns out her "friends" left her for dead in the alley, because they thought she overdosed.

I would think that in order to cope with so much death a person would have to disassociate themselves from the situation and put up some sort of mental wall. It's heart warming to see he is caring and respectful of the deceased.
