to be clear - your bell does not ring when someone else does it. you simply hear the other players bell ringing. you still need to go ring the bell yourself in your own world.
He has officially become a dark souls player. Running around naked, no shield, dodge rolling everywhere, looking for illusory walls, all we missed was the jump here moment lol.
When reading item descriptions, “Skip forward if you want to see the action.” I will never skip an item description. It’s one of the best parts of these games. Tremendous playthrough so far.
when you equipped the gargoyle halberd your not getting poisoned or toxic, its because its boosting your resistance to the status effect, its because the bar becomes bigger thats why it appeared like that
“That sword is the length of 6 moons” hahahah man your commentary kills me 😂😂 Great playthrough so far! Glad to hear people kept it chill with no spoilers when giving tips!
The bottomless box is just to help with inventory clutter but functionally it doesn't change anything. That being said clutter can become a problem eventually and prevent in fight menuing (which you may have to do sometimes), and since you almost can't sell anything, it's a better option than having a cluttered inventory or having to discard stuff
No actually, it solves other problems, such as inventory being full. Ofc you can sell items a little later on to a certain npc, we'll say, but this storage helps in that regard.
Your experience with the Gargoyles is completely normal for a first run. I must have died on them 100 times before I figured out the upgrade system. You're doing great LB!
Spoilerless tip: It is true that humanity opens you up to pvp, but it also unlocks certain NPC spawns that you wouldn't be able to fight while hollowed. These NPCs drop unique gear. But it's all your decision in the end!
@beef business i consider warning people about soul memory an anti-spoiler tip. That mechanic spoils ds2. So, spoiling what spoiled the game helps ds2 be better. Anti-spoiler tip.
@@beefbusiness52 Different things spoil games for different people. Blitz clearly doesn't consider mechanical advice to spoil the game for him; hence, spoilerless tip.
Watching you theorize how to use titanite whilst listening to the blacksmiths hammer is absolutely priceless man!!!! Haha it's brilliant! I've played dark souls 1 and 2, and demon souls... yet I've never played them blind, I had to teach myself how to enjoy souls type games after stubbornly hating them for years after buying dark souls 3 for ps3 (noob to ps3 at the time) and at the time I was only looking for tell me a story on easy mode type gaming, now I play on hard mode and want to find my story on most games but it took a long time to get over the fear of a souls game that I developed on ps3 so I believe dark souls 3 will be my first attempt at a blind playthrough... I can only hope I can learn as fast and funny as you! You are propper HILARIOUS MAN!
@LiquidBlitzPlays enjoy! Dude I'm emotionally invested!!! Hahaha I'm like jumping I'm yelling at the screen so loud saying "please use the lightning in your pocket! Please go downstairs and check that sound" PLEASE !!!! hahahaha EMOTIONALLY INVESTED ! IM IN LOL
"His tail moves fast as lightning, what am i supposed to do?" Hhhmmm whats this sticky gold sap in my pocket? That electrifies things given to me in this area before this big elemental bad guy... watching this is so much fun for me because i would never figure this stuff out lol
Only watched the first 5mins so far, so sorry if you do this later in the ep. But there are two real advantages to reverse hollowing. 1 (less importantly if you just want to solo it) you can summon npc characters in boss fights, 2 (and much more importantly) you can kindle bonfires to increase the amount Estus flasks you carry. If I am avoiding PVP in a playthrough but don't want to go offline I will kindle and then kill my character in any easy to retrieve soul spot haha
Considering your dodge timing is so on point, I was waiting for the moment you would put the shield away and start going two handing. Deciding to throw away the armor was the icing on the cake. You came back to the gargoyle fight like you've just been through a training montage and had a point to prove lol. Loving the series so far.
The purple symbol that was popping up at low health was the Blue Tearstone ring activating. Ripostes and backstabs scale with weapon damage. Daggers do bonus crit damage on ripostes and backstabs, so proportionally more above their base damage than most other weapons. Tip: You can double chug estus flasks, so if you hit the item use button again quickly enough you'll heal a second portion without having to put the flask away between drinks, it can be useful if you're really low on health, but if you're not careful you could waste most of the healing on the second drink. @1:47:10 "Liar ahead" was referring to the message saying "Illusory wall ahead" because the illusory wall message is trolling. As was the "Try jumping" message. 1 of the 2 forms of Dark Souls message humor. @2:11:40 The sign of the Gravelord Servent is a PVP thing. I never did them myself, but it spawns extra tough enemies throughout the world until you kill the other player. @2:32:40 "Tight spot ahead" was a sex joke about the corpse on the altar. The other of the 2 forms of Dark Souls message humor. @2:37:04 The dance the mage did buffed the damage of all the enemies in the area. @3:21:00 If someone else online kindles a bonfire while you're in the same zone, it immediately gives you an extra estus flask charge. It happened earlier too but you hadn't noticed. That's also what happened @4:16:13
I thought a drinking game of "take one shot each time I would like to ask LiquidBlitz to Please Get On With It" would be OK, but very quickly got so hammered that I passed out. Silly me. [And yes, I am in fact only joking.]
Both the enemies and the player character in these games have defense stats, which are either percentage-based or a flat value subtracted from the damage inflicted by the attack. Damage reduction is calculated seperately for each attack type a weapon has (physical, fire, magic, etc.), making split damage weapons potentially less effective. You see these on the stat page of your armor. Each game handles this a bit differently, and I'm not sure how exactly DS1 does it. It may be just a flat defense value. As the gargoyles damage reduction remains constant, the 50% upgrade to your AR increased your actual damage output to them by a significant amount (57 to 150). There are some other modifiers as well. Attacking an enemy while they are in the middle of an attack animation yields additional counter damage.
Thank you so much for the quality entertainment. You're doing a very, very good job. One of the most wonderful things about this fabulous game is the way the lore seeps into you slowly. You'll find youself thinking about it a long time after you stop playing. Not many games can achieve that. Classic example from this episode is trying the door to Havel's cell and saying "Well this isn't a residence.". Great stuff mate, much enjoyment.
Hi man, love your lets play! Quick info if you aren't aware: every weapon slot that is occupied by a weapon will count towards your weight, even if you toggle it away with the d-pad. As you were using the Halberd, you toggled your shield away with the d-pad. But with the shield in your offhand, you can just press triangle to get the shield on your back (passive effects of shields apply even when they are on your back) ;) keep up the great work! love it❤ oh yeah and another thing, classic dualwielding mechanics were not introduced until Dark Souls 2 so dont bother with that :D greetings from Germany :)
Enjoying the playthrough! I know I'm 6 months late here, but regarding your question about the player ghosts, and if they're real-time- Not quite, but almost! I've done a little research on them. They are typically very recent, but the way it works is your character logs your recent animations in these sorts of 8 second segments, then once that's logged, it'll try sending it off to another player online. By the time they've received it, it could be closer to 30 seconds old. Sometimes older animations have a way of sticking around too, but I believe most are probably recent. This is all to say that most ghosts you see ARE probably players who are going through the same area as you at the same time, but the delay is just big enough that you won't be able to gesture back and forth and really respond to each others' presence. And while you could very well be sending your ghosts to each other, it's not directly synced in any way, they aren't necessarily seeing yours while you see theirs. It's like you're sending text messages sporadically rather than being on a live call. Ghosts aren't bound by any kind of level range parameters, meaning you can see the ghosts of players who are hundreds of levels apart. So they're also not necessarily a realistic preview of who you can find in multiplayer, it could be someone in NG+. In Dark Souls 1 they show more detail if they're near bonfires, explaining why they sometimes have color and look more normal. Those are some ghost fun facts. 👻 😅
Saw you trying to figure out what "thrust", "slash" etc meant under your weapon descriptions. Different damage types are more effective against different enemies, and its mostly pretty intuitive. For instance, a slash weapon like a katana isn't as good against enemies with lots of armor, where as a thrusting weapon like a spear is. A club is better against a skeleton than a sword. A tree enemy is weak to fire, etc. This isn't a spoiler as they talk about it in the opening cinematic, but lightning is good against dragons.
You'd be surprised what you can block in DS1. I don't know about the other Souls games, but in this one you can block basically anything with a great shield.
I laughed so much when you were getting to grips with gargoyle 1 and then dark souls did a dark souls thing 😂. I watch a lot of blind playthroughs, really enjoying this one, your elden ring experience really helped, you are progressing so fast. I sucked for ages and ages and ages 😅
I don't know if anyone pointed it out already, and I know it's uber late to comment tips on this playthrough, but I'm enjoying this series right now, so here I am anyways: While you were fighting the Black Knight in Undead Burg, the reason why he so often used his shield bash against you, is because you constantly held up your own shield. Many enemies are programmed to kick or shield bash more often if the player is hiding constantly behind theirs.
3:57:00 the fact that even after finding Blacksmith you don't check his shop and don't upgrade all the way up to +5 is making me sadder than even before all these upgrades. Just why? xD
I've been watching this series while work is slow and I really enjoy how fresh players slowly improve while playing these games. They can be frustrating, but what I enjoy about Dark Souls is that with very few exceptions, every time a player dies, it's because of their own actions and not the fault of the game. The game can be brutal but it never feels unfair to me
I can not *believe* it never occurred to you to use Firelink bonfire while fighting the gargoyles, and that you *chose* not to kindle the bonfire you were using either 😂
That drop in to rat hell 1:26:30 made my day. Takes me back When i played this game on release. Have not played it since. This series wants me to jump back and play it again.
"tight spot ahead" Someone may have pointed this out already, but that was most likely referring to the corpse you got the fire keeper soul from. Specifically, the fact that the corpse was curled up, and it's "tight spot" was facing you. Yes, the community is that mature. Also, don't assume few or many ratings mean anything significant, some helpful messages will be relatively new and have a couple or no ratings. While troll messages that are just messing with you, and or actively trying to encourage you to leap to your death, may have hundreds or thousands of ratings. "no warning in this game" Like the boss fog, or the clearly seperated elevator with a switch on the ground? Patience and observation are your best friends in any souls game, and running past a mob into new areas is definitely a deathwish.
Hi! I’ve been watching your playthrough while traveling. My husband is a regular viewer and got me interested in seeing others play blind since I did the same. I wanted to leave you a note of support on this particular episode because yeah, I got wrecked here. I almost rage quit and that’s not my style? I thought! I also started with Elden and then went to DS1. I see a lot of similarities. You panic roll and use stamina for no reason. Don’t hold your shield up-drop block, get wrecked and make excuses for things that were totally your fault. I did all that and more. It’s a humbling game. I am playing it for the second time and doing better. Your parry and kick skills off the bat have been impressive! Looking forward to your pyromancer episodes.
No spoilers, but, like others have said, the game does not really bottleneck you. Before moving further in one direction, it's a good idea to explore all directions. :)
Streaming recommendation: get a friend (preferably who's played the game) to act as an active filter for comments. Inevitably you'll get people later on who will spoil big things and it'll maybe shield you from big spoilers or gameplay mechanics that you haven't figured out yet. Other than that, things look great, do the thing, have fun! Don't eat the yellow snow.
Don't worry. So far most of them have lead to either confusion or nothing. For example the illusory wall one... I couldn't find one anywhere near the message and I hit every bit of wall in the room.
@@LiquidBlitzPlays oh, that, i havent watched for this moment yet, but most of illusorycwall messegy is a fake, its a big joke from dark souls community, and its persist in all 3 games.
Don’t know if you’ve since figured this out or someone already told you but cutting off the tail of a lot of enemies/bosses will grant you a unique weapon
Having the Online Messages on can be very humorous and beneficial, all the help the better. These big guy’s are no joke! That big Pig’s Armor look’s cool, I almost thought we died falling down the ladder. What a save. Check that, we did died! Lol. It’s annoying you can’t go back through the Fog Doors, those are some crazy looking Gargoyle enemies. That was a fun battle, the Halberd Weapon is amazing! Enjoyed the Episode. 🤗
fun fact: everytime you heard the Bell in your game, someone else defeated the gargoyles and rang the bell in their game (serverbased) The fact that your dmg was so high after the upgrades is, that not only the raw dmg numbers were improved, but also the scaling of the weapon so if you level up str and dex AND upgrade your weapon the dmg gets really good because of the scaling improvement (scaling works identical in every classic souls game F - S scaling steps)
You cant imagine how i laughed when you finded blacksmith, pure gold i say. Also, garguils not that hard as a boss, hard is that they protect each other, and not allow you hit eather of them. When you defeat one, the other should be easy i think. Also really enjoying this 4.5 hours episode, didnt even skip once, yes, your hollow face aka serious mode too, i watched all, and it was hella fantastic. You have that charisma that makes interesting to watch you, its hard to explain. Looking forward for next episodes with same lenght. Keep up the good work. 👍
I'm way to late to the party, but in case you didn't figure out on your own later, i still want to point out the fact that in Dark Souls everybody, including the developers themselfs, is trying to troll you. Most item description are actually helpful, but the Gargoyle's Halberd stating "Perfectly standard bronze halberd with no special powers" is really there to make you sceptical. It wants you basically to realize that you don't get always upfront helpful messages and instead of fully relying on stuff being directly told to you, you may want to criticize everything you see. Here you should come to the conclusion, that this halberd very much so does have a special power by increasing your poison, toxic and bleed resistance; highlighted both by the apearing status bars on the bottom and the yellow shield icon with green arrow beneath your stamina, when switching to this weapon.
Yes the crestfallen knight (the first guy you spoke to at firelink told you that you can tear out slivers of humanity from humanoid enemies you kill, it takes a bunch but you can naturally gain humanity from slaughter There is a way to bypass bridge dragon or bait him down to fight, if you just want to run past bait out a fire breath and hide against the wall to either side of the staircase area, while the animation phases through you wont take damage if tucked up nice and close, then the moment the fire disappears book it towards the portcullis the dragon will fly down to fight you, stay unlocked if you want to run past and spam dodge roll and you should be able to slip between his legs juat keep running once past and dont stop until inside, the dragon temporarily will fly off but will return if you reload the game. This gets you that bonfire and another shortcut For your play style the only important numbers on shields for you are the damage reduction%'s and stability shields can be wielded in main hand to do a shield bash attack, ive seen it done but honestly you seem to be doing well with parry riposte so it wouldnt be worth the loss of parrying to shield bash enemies Ahh the good old panic run right into a group of enemies, dont worry we've all been there
1:47:08 Yeah, messages can also be trolling or misleading, like "try jumping" on a cliff edge or "illusory wall ahead" in front of a suspicious looking wall that is actually just a wall. Sometimes these messages get called out by other messages, that's why the other one said "liar ahead". They can also sometimes be helpful, though. Just be wary of BS, lol.
It's pretty great you have had a bunch of good ideas like using a electric stone or kindling the bonfire but I'm still waiting for you to do the ideas you thought of lol ☺️
On the subject of Tail Weapons: No spoilers, but almost every big enemy with a prominent tail is subject to getting it sliced off if you attack them from behind. It does take multiple swings most of the time, but attacking from behind is almost always advantageous anyway.
Quality of life advice. Upgrade all your major bonfires by kindling it at least once.navigating areas with 10 flask is way more manageable than having only 5.
A little late, but my first playthrough was about 50 hours, i missed so much stuff though. Painted world, dlc, asylum return, ash lake, Gwendolyn, undead blacksmith all were missed lol. Plus a probably failed every questline
FYI, the black Knights shield bash is a guard break move, he only does it when you have your shield raised, so don't raise the shield until he's started his attack animation :)
hopefully the lesson you learned from this episode was not to ram your head into a brick wall repeatedly until you've explored all your options first. the game rarely bottlenecks you and there are always many different ways to progress. you can always come back to something that has you stumped later
Dont know if anybody explained the scaling of weapon to you so ill drop this here just in case, but all weapons scales with a particular stat or more, if the weapon has a C in strength and D in dex, it means it got its damage mainly from strength and the letter also gets better when you upgrade the weapon, it can go from C strength and D dex to a A strength and D dex or even double C's, depending on the weapon, and thats what the numbers on the damage screen means, for example 70 + 8 physical damage means, the weapon base damage is 70 and the + 6 mean you get 6 from the scaling stats that the weapon uses, if the weapon scales S in strength and you have 60 points strength you would see 70 + 280, so very important to understand the scaling mechanic and keep in mind the base damage also goes up when you upgrade them.
and to add to that, when looking at shields, look at the right section, the left section shows damage, and the right section shows damage reduction, its also the same for weapons, and its spoiler free if you ask, its a game mechanic never really explained in all the series and even in elden ring its the same system, im just surprised they never explain it anywhere exept online or if you read explanation while looking at weapon stats if i remember correctly ( pressing option i think in the stats menu )
I would strongly recommend an Xbox Elite Controller or any controller with paddles on the back. Sprinting with one of the back paddles will allow you to keep your thumb on the right stick. Retaining camera control while sprinting makes a big difference.
It helps me when I play dark souls to shoot one enemy from far away. As only he is triggered. And he comes to me. So I can kill one on one. With a bow. Weakest arrows will do as they r only for luring.
@liquid blitz Didn't see the answer in other comments. 4:08:40 What you see on weapon is AR (attack rating). It then hits defenses. So 500Ar hits 250 defense. You do 250 damage. AR-Def=damage. You see big difference because you had 110 hitting 90.(guess for demonstration) Thats 20 damage. Increase to 150 that's 60 damage. 50%increase in AR equals triple damage. Also splitting damage types hits 2 defenses. (AR-physical def)+(Fire AR-Fire Def) So splitting damages takes a large chunk out of your actual damage. General rule, at least 100 more total AR to make a split damage do the same damage overall. (Most non physical defenses are around 100)
Almost 0 need to have a bottomless box besides a cleaner inventory. But then again you have to go thru your box to clean your inventory out. It wasnt really worth it.
Personally, I very much disagree with playing online. I don't think you'll miss a thing from being offline and you don't run the risk of getting severely griefed or content spoiled. But up to you, obviously.
The liar ahead message was referring to the hidden wall message (with almost 30k upvotes) - that message was lying - there was no hidden wall. You will notice that some messages are trying to meme players. Welcome to the dark souls community lol. Also, the message that said need jumping that was placed by the edge was trying to get players to jump to their death.
@@LiquidBlitzPlays I just got farther into the video. Another thing is that messages can be vaguely vulgar... "tight spot ahead" in front of a statue of a woman... I'll let you connect the dots
