So cute and inspiring. Drawing can be intimidating for some people. A good resource for children’s quilts is. Coloring books!!!

Absolutely! And it can be traced onto pattern paper then pinned onto the quilt front or back and sewn right through & just torn away afterwards (I have a roll of thin doctor’s office exam table paper that’s the right weight and see-through-ness so would be perfect. Tissue paper would work too)!

Thank you for your suggestion of quilting on the back of the quilt. It was so “freeing” and I was able to quilt my daughters queen size quilt without problems. The pattern on the front was so busy I felt like I couldn’t see where I was going or if the pattern was too busy. But doing the back I could concentrate on the pattern and knew right where I was all the time. It came out beautiful 😊.

I used this method for a lap quilt and it was a lot of fun and turned out looking similar to another quilt I had professionally quilted. I will definitely quilt from the back again! Thanks to Laura for giving a new way to confidently finish a quilt.

I love that! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This technique, I believe, will help me when I become paralyzed for fear of messing up the quilt. I tend to be a perfectionist with fear, double whammy! You have inspired and motivated me to quilt 3 quilt tops, that have been sitting for over 6 months. 😍

This is a brilliant experiment! Even though I only see the utility of really big quilts, I now see the value in making small quilts so I can do some practicing of my free motion quilting skills which I’d like to learn & hone, before I can do it on the more tricky piecing patterns I want to make. This would make a terrific table topper or dresser liner (if rectangular) or a bit larger would be great for a baby quilt or playmat. Non-quilting friends might enjoy a gift of a table topper or set of placemats. I am jazzed about this technique (as long as my sewing machine tension is good). Thanks Laura!!

Thank you also for giving me permission to have imperfect stitching. I need to remember that always. Your quilt turned out so cute!

Laura I love, love, this way of quilting. Thank You for showing how to quilt a quilt this way. I never thought of quilting from the back of a quilt dah, I really like using solid color fabric for backing. I can see how it is so much to your advantage. Being able to freehand draw designs. With out the distractions of a print of fabric. And then quilt them, I've always used Prints on the back. I'm not very good at doing freehand quilting yet, but I'm going to really definitely try to do it now.!!! I really love the sewing machine that you were quilting this little quilt on. What brand and what are the details about it so I can research it? I'm sure it's very expensive so I may be out of my price range. But what I like about it is the throat space is so wide and it looks like a regular sewing machine from what I could tell and not a quilting machine (excuse my terminology I'm not very knowledgeable on quilting machines) Looking forward to seeing more videos with this type of quilting Thanks again.
