Shawn, do a do-over on this with a wire cloth cap. Will prevent mice from knocking the ball from the top.

I find it interesting that the live capture trap has a longer drop distance than the kill trap. You would think you'd want it reversed.

The live-catch trap does need a little bit more height to give the mouse space to sit under the ball, plus the pegs. It's doesn't need to be THAT much taller, though.

I have no idea why it pisses me off so much that mice wander around EVERYWHERE ELSE except the trap for as LONG AS POSSIBLE. Much more so when they trigger the trap from the top. But at least this guy is here to show us that not all traps are immune to failure

@@Cicada-gq8hz You wouldn't need to redesign, All it would take is extending the top so that the ball is no longer exposed and then place a cap on it. Noy redesigning needed. All you'd be doing is making the thing taller, or setting the ball lower in the live catch version, you;d set it in the same way since you'd make the slots for the pins as well.

This is a great trap, no risk of getting your fingers stuck and no risk of pets getting their paws stuck, the only problem I could see is it’s a little tall, maybe could be a little tippy

From the look of those rats you need a shroud over the trigger, and a bowling ball scale version for those massive rats.

These traps need a cover that goes over pool balls onto to prevent mice from climbing the pool ball and falsely prematurely the trap. The cover should have four notches and the tube should have to peg on the side the cover locks into place and can’t rotate as well won’t touch the top of the pool ball when in place. The other two notches accommodate the pegs on the pool ball. You could probably use just use a PVC pipe cap available at any hardware store for this purpose.

That's a very creative trap design, but you need to give it a little flip.

It's not that bad, it just needs a little modification to work better is all. The simple thing would be to make both versions the same height as the taller one and cut the holding slots so that they go down further so that the ball sits completely inside the tube and then place some sort of cap or lid on top. For extra security, you could mount it to a wide base so that it doesn't get easily knocked over.

Maybe try again with the ribbon on the inside of the tube. leaving only a small tab visible under the pin. * and add a litle peanut butter smear on the entrance hole.. and a smear by the door side.. Hansel and Grettle breadcrumbs into the witches oven ;)

The kill trap metal pipe should be maybe double or triple height so mouse can't get on top. Then it would work well.

After seeing the traps in action I would suggest that you build some “protection” or something around the traps so they only have one option, & don’t set of the trap from the outside 🤔👍

I've got some 2" hardened steel balls I got from Amazon, they would work perfectly for the kill trap version, even better than the pool ball. Really simple design, like all the best ones are. Edit: Note to self, put cap on top to prevent accidental triggers lol.

i think the issue is the height of the traps. they should be taller so critters cant jump on top of them, and so the pool ball has a farther distance to drop from, making the kill trap more effective.

The trigger system has a huge flaw - ribbon is outside.If mouse or any other animal move it the ball will be relased with no mouse inside the trap.

For a trap that works by Gravity, the ratio height/base should be enough to avoid the trap to tilt and fall

I hope you revisit this one with a cap mod, I was thinking another pipe with legs to hold it above the ball but not interfere with the operation but a plastic bottle or pvc would also work
