Discourse on Africa has been focused on criticisms of its leadership - what many have come to term 'the crisis of leadership.' Rachel Nyaradzo Adams argues that what Africa is actually suffering from is a Crisis of Courage. This historical moment calls for African youth to cultivate their courage so that they can create the future that they prefer. This will require a drastic shift in our mindset, an openness to risking a lot and a strategic appreciation of the power of collaborations across borders.
Rachel is a leadership development consultant and coach and is committed to providing transformational tools to Africa's emerging and already existing leaders. Rachel Nyaradzo Adams is the founder of Narachi Leadership, a leadership consultancy aimed at developing deep benches of leaders for the African continent. Frustrated by the constant criticism of poor leadership on the continent, and equipped with leadership training approaches from some of the best institutions known to the world, Rachel has merged her frustration with her expertise in leadership development to help leaders transform themselves and their environments. In this work she offers her expertise as a leadership practitioner, ontological coach, mentor and speaker. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

"Our crisis is not a crisis of leadership; our crisis is youth in danger of never knowing the power of their courage." ~ well delivered, Rachel Nyaradzo Adams

This has been my train of thoughts lately especially with how things are being handled in South Sudan and the continent at large. And how we as Africans ( me included) are quick to get angry (Emotions) at the current situations and slow to actually doing something (Effective Action). Thank you @Rachel Nyaradzo Adams

She is speaking for all of us in the diaspora. I have had these thoughts as well. The guilt. As a parent now I want my children to be proud of their heritage. I thank this young lady for her courage and for voicing all of our thoughts.

ZIM. Mugabe wasnt mentioned on the great leaders and i understand. He lost his way. If only he gave other leaders chance, he could be one of Africas greatest leaders.

Great presentations. However, you cannot put Mandela and Sankara on the same sentence and pretend that's okay. Please do more research on the South African liberation struggle instead of presenting surface issues. Times are too critical for us to allow a generation of young Afrikans to glorify leaders that were made for them by their oppressors. Mandela is a quintessential example. We hope you will do justice to this topic and research deeper than Madelarised thought. I look forward to hear from you. Maitabasa.

Great speech but I think it only applies to certain citizens of certain African countries because every country’s political situation is different. If you’re from Congo-Brazzaville for example, it doesn’t matter how much courage you have, you will be dead as soon as you think of changing the system. As someone from the Congo 🇨🇬 I would love to help my country but I know that I would be more successful investing my time in another African country benefiting Africa in that way. Courage and wisdom are required. You can be courageous and fight a lion but is it wise to do so?

Very well articulated, I'd love to hear more of the work youre doing back in Zimbabwe and see where our intersection of purpose lies. you have reworked and succinctly answered a question or rather further intensified a burning passion that is in its 16th year this year. Would love to have a formal discussion soon. And thank you for being brave and mad at the same time, i suppose those two are twins. Well done.
