I really loved the first three growing up, Lego Star Wars, Indy, and Batman. I also really enjoyed Lego Pirates which I remember buying with my mom at a Walmart after Sunday Service
I remember playing episode 1 and thinking “when am I getting to the first level?” And then after the sub mission to get to Naboo I was like “wait, that was the first level?”
Dude I’m at the clone wars part, and I still feel like I haven’t done anything in the game other than tracking missions. The missions feel so short that I feel like I’m barely playing a game, and it’s worse because you can’t skip cutscene it seems.
I think it's sad that many people forget about the Lego Star Wars: Clone Wars Game. It was personally my favorite. I loved the war mechanics and all about it! I also miss the character creator in the Skywalker Saga. Also - I totally agree to most critiques in this video to the game.
One of the best examples of how rushed it is, is when you don't even get to fight Grievous bodyguards on his ship. The level ends as soon as you kill Dooku and goes to a cutscene
@@KawaiiRuby not to be like that but one encounter not being there isnt rly a problem might show a bigger problem with skipping fun stuff but like fighting the magna guards wasnt the most important thing they couldve included i think
@@sound4117 It was 2 games that had 3 movies each, they combined then to make a six movie complete saga, they had to make all 9 movies from scratch. It's not really an excuse, it's just my opinion.
The most underwhelming part was the space exploration. When it was first announced, I thought we were going to get full space exploration where you get to fly through space to the different planets. Maybe I had my expectations too high but the space exploration we got felt very weak. You hop into a planets space area and it has like only 3 things for you to do (destroy stud comets, dog fight, and just flying around). I like the game in a few ways but it's not the game we were promised
I thought about this same exact thing but what is full space exploration? Holding the acceleration button for 5 min just to "travel" through empty space? Star Citizen does it well... it actually takes a good amount of time to travel between planets or solar systems. While there could have been more content, I think the devs did good enough for providing a "free roam" feeling when traveling between planets
@@crazy7gabe I agree and I also love star citizen. I think they should just made the space areas bigger and more to explore. Two or three things to do that last literally a minute is a little underwhelming. Give me more dogfights or random bounty hunter encounters. Give me missions where your being boarded and have to defend against attackers in your ship. I feel as if they could've added many more side things to do in the space exploration part of this game. Or, add an entire asteroid field that has a track to fly and dodge asteroids in. There was a lot of potential and it just feels like a lot of corners were cut in the final product. It's a solid game, but it could've been on the edge if perfection if they expanded a little more on their ideas.
Pretty important - it wasn't made in unreal engine. The devs wanted to, but TT games higher ups forced them to work with their own brand-new bugfilled TT games engine. Hence, the devs were forced to work with a crappy untested engine that they blame for the 2 year delay.
And because of this the devs were working double overtime that may or may not have been unpaid. This is why the main campaign feels rushed, they simply didn't have time to make the game they wanted to make.
@@ToomanyFrancis They were slowed down a lot, but even then, the same article in which the devs say these things, they also point out the incompetent management. Things they know are important to us, like polished co-op and online, were ignored in favour of management suffering from feature creep. This is why the game is absolutely PACKED with one-time things where people say "oh, you can do that? cool!" and never use it again, when core things were deleted. Gameplay programmers work overtime on endless lists of one-time features when that same time could be used to have some combat available in the open-world. Ratchet & clank did hub worlds better 15 years ago!
One thing to add about Lego Star Wars 3 as well is that all of their boss fights are very different fights. Jango - Hit him out of the air attack him on the Ground Helper Droid - Try to find it in grass and hit it which then goes to try to hit it with all of the Droids in the room R3-S6 - You can only fight him with R2 but it is just press the button to win fight Geonosian Queen - You use her eggs in order to platform to cliffs and destroy pillars to take her out Anakin and Asoka - Take out the padawan first to take her light saber then target the master Grievous - The General is a menacing foe who can only be taken out by throwing Enemies, Objects or him Ventress - A lightsaber duel which requires you to take her light saber to a force duel to then a mech battle to falling to the ground while still fighting Ventress Not all of them are winners but they do a good job in making each one unique.
i was literally looking up negative reviews for this game like a day or two ago because i wanted to see what people think (i personally do like it a lot, but have plenty of problems with it as well, which i haven't seen anyone mention so far) so now that my favourite internet funny bird is talking about it, i can finally find closure
Literally what I was thinking too (the negative review digging) because some of this is entirely odd for a game I preordered since 2020... and has been since announce since before then. "The most characters ever" Also them "Here's another separate character of Jango fett within extras of aa "clone edition" instead of just putting him in the costumes of Jango... etc etc with the same story but different characters.
My biggest complaint about the game is the quests where they just make you go to a different planet, talk to someone, and come back, for the illusion of accomplishment. Also there’s a bug where if you go to the “all characters” menu too fast it’s blurry.
I was quite disappointed in the last level in Episode 3 when they took out the ability to play as both Obi-Wan and Anakin in multiplayer mode that enabled you to fight each other and actually be a somewhat challenge, that was one of the best parts of that level (in my opinion), now its one player does the fight and the other plays as a droid that is tasked with moving the platforms, and its just boring now, and that's just for one level of many, on the plus side I'm only playing it with my friend though cloud cause he bought it lol
Eh....it doesn't sound that bad but it does sound like a downgrade. It's not boring now. Also I doubt all of the levels were changed like that. Also meanwhile...the game actually added in the second Luke vs Vader fight and in multiplayer you both play as Luke and Vader.
@@groovygoblin4152 im the biggest CW fan out there but it wasn’t a better game. It had like a fifth of the content and plenty of its own issues. It’s perfectly fine to love both while acknowledging Skywalker Saga is a lot better.
“Are you rushing or dragging” is such an accurate critique. Looking back in hindsight after beating all the story missions, I’m amazed how much of each episode was dedicated to just running to different waypoints. So many of the levels are just vehicle chase sequences or boss fights, and going back to get the collectibles is honestly just exhausting because it’s so repetitive… I replayed the Prologue mission of LSW:TFA, which is 3 distinct segments of ROTJ, including the Death Star bombing, Luke vs Vader and the emperor, and the Battle of Endor (all with more fleshed out gameplay segments). That’s how I thought The Skywalker Saga would handle cramming so much content into so few levels, but instead… They just didn’t try
Dylan Sharp I don’t think it’s fair to say they didn’t try, because I know a lot of stuff was screwed by executive meddling. But 3 years or not, this is the product we have now. Despite the dev’s best efforts
Seeing enemies ignore the player feels...well, wrong to say the least. I replayed a bunch of lego games last month and every single enemy is hyper aggressive and doesn't hesitate to swarm you compared to the ones here. The old Lego Star Wars games had the player die quite a bit, but the repercussions of it were very minimal, only having you drop some studs on death. Lego Star Wars 3 felt the most punishing out of the series, but still extremely easy compared to most every other non-lego game. What made it unique was how you could actually fail missions and needed to restart them, specifically the RTS battle challenges and the bounty missions.
yeah but even then, you'd have to be actually braindead to even fail RTS battles. i had to specifically go out of my way back in the day to fail one because i couldnt believe something like this can actually happen.
The level of hand-holding really makes me think that Disney meddled with the development of the game. If it’s not so easy a gorilla could do it, then it’s not lowest common denominator enough and won’t make as much $$. Just my theory!
I was actually heartbroken when I realized there was no level for taking down the second death star. That level was one of my favorites in tcs, and the idea of cutting it never crossed my mind while playing. From then on, I started really seeing just how many corners this game cut (I played the ot first before the pt)
Same, I really wanted bosses for battles like Battle Of Yavin, Battle Of Endor and Battle Of Hoth. Or just big battles instead of being cutscenes. They’re such major events in the franchise and they’re mostly cutscenes. Fuck the literal time era is called BBY and ABY for “before/after battle of Yavin”
Glad to see I’m not the only one who was disappointed. My biggest issue was I felt the levels were too short. Thinking back to TCS a lot of the levels had like 3 times the length of some of them in this game. I would have rather had way less open world exploration and more time spent on the levels since that’s what you’ll mainly be replaying. Also whilst watching some cutscenes I was thinking ‘why am I not playing this?’ The destruction of the 2nd Death Star is a cutscene in this game but a full level in TCS. I really wanted to like this game more but the longer I think about it the more the flaws mount
Its like ever since Lego Dimensions, they are too scared to do proper levels, despite the fact that the people who actually hated The Doctor Who and Portal levels, are an extremely tiny minority.
@@angryboi595 I would argue Dimensions at least due to how long, in-depth, and surprisingly respectful to the source material each of the level's were based upon, now if only we got actual Jurassic World, The Lego Movie, or Legends of Chima levels...
This is the exact reason why future LEGO games need a difficulty slider. Maybe adults want a challenge playing these games...god I miss the Platforming from Complete Saga, and I miss the puzzles from Lego Batman and Marvel.
I do love those games as well but let’s not be hyperbolic here, the platforming and the puzzles of the previous Lego games aren’t that amazing either. These games have always been easy and I feel like people are just starting to see the cracks now that they’re older.
The boss fights looked like they had multiple ways of ending it when the game was teased. And that's true, you can throw stuff at them but if you force joke phasma it soft locks when it should be a unique way of completing the task
I 100% agree, when I played for the first time, I was unfortunately also a bit disappointed, the levels could be much better and the split screen is absolutely a hindrance
i just dont get why they don't use the same split screen mechanic that was used in lego star wars clonewars game, which worked BEAUTIFULLY. Basically anytime both players were near each other the screen would merge into one. It was only split when characters were far apart
I think the reason I loved the older legos games is bc they didn’t try to go to big they were fun small games I could play and relax with my brain turned off while enjoying my favorite franchises in Lego form
it's not about being small games i think it's more about Lego games being their own genre, they have a special charm that this game only added during cutsenes and jokes but the rest of it tries to be an action game completetly forgetting about the Lego style during the gameplay, this is perfectly just a normal game using Lego models
I think both of you are saying the same thing: the older LEGO games are less about the difficulty of the gameplay and more about offering a variety of gameplay which no other game could deliver to the impetuous mind of a child. The satisfaction of a typical action game comes from overcoming challenges. A game can only be challenging if it has constraints. But LEGO games are about removing those constraints. And so the satisfaction of playing such games is allowing the player to play however they want. If you want to rescue Princess Leia as General Grievous, you can do that. If you want to fight Jango Fett as Luke Skywalker, you can do that. If you want to blow up the Death Star with a TIE fighter, you can do that. If you want to escape from Bespin as a gonk droid, you can do that. If you want to fight Darth Vader while simultaneously playing as Darth Vader, you can do that. A child doesn't need a massive game to try out the countless possible combinations.
Finally a somewhat bigger channel talks about the glaring issues with this game. I see nothing but positive reviews and I feel gaslit that no ones mentioning the regression in gameplay and level design.
I'm fine with a bit easier gameplay since it's clearly for younger audiences, the cutscenes were mostly funny but the complete saga ones were definitely funnier, I'm not too mad about level design since it's a Lego game. so the only thing that really annoys and bothers me is the repetitive and boring gameplay. I've started at episode 1 and actually had fun most of the time. I just finished episode 4 and everything feels incredible dull and boring. I don't even know if I want to actually finish the game. The atmosphere feels kinda dead in the free roam parts of the game. This game has definitely no replay value. 6.5/10. Its still playable but it's just not unique enough. Only cop this if you really want the experience
Mate, i highly respect your opinion for actually talking about LEGO games and Star Wars 3 and not just The Complete Saga (the only videogame ever made) like everyone else but Excuse me, LEGO Marvel Superheroes is straight fire
Yeah I had similar thoughts to this game. Although most people weren’t really willing to hear any criticism during the honeymoon period. So seeing this video was somewhat therapeutic. I suppose ultimately it comes down to the Lego gameplay being stretched too thin for the scale of the game.
It just seems so... unfinished. I would have been okay with another delay if I knew there would be this much wrong with the game and so little interesting content.
Two things that truly drive me insane: *Retro Mode cheat is a yellow Instagram filter. A subtle one at that. They said during the marketing that you could combine it with Mumble Mode for "a nostalgic experience". They didn't even tell us like with the custom characters getting dropped, they straight up lied. *There are levels where characters are locked in Free Play. You know. The biggest selling point of a Lego game.
Honestly there’s no ground battles you can do as a mode which sucks. (All I do is go to is tatoonie which the infinite stormtroopers spawn and use the Mandolorian glitch) also some of the side missions are repetitive and pisses me off like the taking the cargo to someone. I got sick and tired of space battles fr
This is it. I just wasn't having fun with this game. I loved the previous star wars game. It was fun. It felt like a classic lego game. This just feels odd, mainly due to the walking from A to B while talking to someone. Short levels. I just had to drop it after 2 hours.
11:20 I don't have to imagine it. Lego Star Wars 3 had that. One of the more common examples in that game would be the Super Battle Droids, which Blaster Characters were practically useless against - and you needed either a Lightsaber, rapid fire (of which there were very few characters with rapid fire) or an explosive to kill them. It's been a long time since I played it so I'm not sure of the full list of enemies anymore, but this also applied to vehicles.
@@smugplush It also applied to vehicles - some vehicles had rapid fire or concentrated beams to melt gold objects, and other vehicles had either Turbo Lasers or missiles to destroy silver objects - whilst purple objects usually meant you had to use Torpedos. (I like that you could use Speeders to collect Torpedos to one-shot enemy buildings during a skirmish battle) Speaking of; I had hoped Skywalker Saga would have those battles again. Imagine changing which faction owns which planet by playing a ground battle as one of the factions of your choosing against the one currently controlling the planet - and it will change what NPCs and faction related quests will be available on the planet, as well as some aesthetics the planet would have.
I think one of the biggest issues is a lack of vision. Is this meant to be a retelling of the story in Lego format? Well no because major plot points are sped through. I’d this a slapstick comedy loosely retelling the story? No because there are multiple walking exposition sections. It needed to focus on either and not both
@@smisv they gloss over the fact that Alderaan is blown up. Anakins fall to the dark side feels abrupt cuz the cutscenes are so short. Those are just a few I can remember it’s been a while
@@pendantairplane Frfr. I never played LotR so I got introduced through The Hobbit and it was a peak Lego experience. My main problem though was the lack of Battle of the Five Armies content.
6:34 The game was actually made with the NTT engine which was an in house engine, not Unreal. But other than that little mistake this was a great review and really opened my eyes to the flaws this game had that I was unknowingly overlooking.
“bUt iTs fOr KiDs!!! ShUt uP aNd CoNsOoM!” People who say that really need to shut up, im so tired of the stigma surrounding people who criticize things, it’s like navigating a minefield and it’s so irritating, this game looks like complete crap, if I was a kid I’d probably hate it too lol. Great video skipper!
I think the worst aspect was how obviously unpolished the gameplay was. I did a casual run through the game and got softlocked at least 10 times. During boss fights you have to make sure that you don’t do too much damage during one phase because if they’re in certain damage animations when a cutscene activates get can become invincible with no way to fix it. Additionally. There were countless visual bugs where my character would just stop functioning properly or where a character would be t posing in a cutscene.
I really wanted to 100% this game leading up to release. After getting it, getting progress locked by a bug, starting over and beating the story again, I really don’t have the will to explore the beautiful open areas on each planet. The missions aren’t fun to revisit and the kyber brick grinding is so tedious. I enjoyed my initial romp with it but I doubt this game has the longevity of the complete saga
Not only that but the “level challenges” are so annoyingly stupid. They’re not even collectibles but you still need to complete them to 100% the game. You can either buy hints to figure out what they are or spend eternity doing random shit in a level that will eventually unlock them. “Defeat 5 battle droids only using the force” like wtf do I care 😂
FACTS, haven't seen anyone else say this but it's such a bother for me. They focused on the sequel movies wayy too much imo, places like cantonica have so much content for such not memorable locations
I cant believe the battle over coruscant at the start of episode 3 was just a cutscene, it was one of my favourite levels in the complete saga. Also one of my favourite scenes from the prequel movies.
when I first played this game I had fun but it was mostly because of the nostalgia and some of the jokes that kept me going. The problem was when I beat the game and started doing the extra side quests, which are even more repetitive than the base game. 90% of the side quests consist of "escort this person and don't let them take damage" "take this cargo from one planet to another and fight ships along the way" "find this thing" and very few of the side quests have any meaningful difference from the others
This game actually wasn't made in Unreal Engine. There's an interesting read on the wiki about it; essentially the devs at TT were pushing to use UE, but management told them no, and that they had to use an updated version of the NTT engine (the one they've been using for all previous LEGO games). I'd recommend giving that section a read, it briefly details the staff's frustration and the crunch culture at TT during the development of this game as well, and sort of shows a different possible perspective as to the games flaws.
Hears how to describe my Lego Star Wars TSS experience: - Buy the game - Grind the game during Spring Break - Finish one of the missions for TFA - Get soft-locked from the rest of the sequel trilogy due to playing on an Xbox - Give up due to not wanting to grind the OG, and Prequel trilogy again + the bonus missions I did.
@@cartermitchell7444 It happens to people who didn't continue to Maz castly directly, i heard that by taking a break from the game, exploring Takodana or entering the Maz Castle will break your game and will make disappear the mission marker (ally of the resistance), so i recommand to all people arriving to Takodana for the first time to take the mission first at all cost, if you see a blue mission marker then go for it! otherwise the game will softlock you and you'll have to restart all over again... Thankfully It never happened to me since i rushed (usually saving explorations and free play for postgame), but it happened to my brother 2 times, you can guess that he decided to uninstall the game afterward.
@@rainyeager8887 I'm like you, I had no interest in the open world so I never discovered this. I guess most people played like that too cause no one is talking about this.
As someone who played the Complete Saga as a kid as well as recently beat the Skywalker Saga, I prefer the Complete Saga. I agree with the point that The Skywalker Saga is way too easy; it’s way easier than The Complete Saga. I understand that The Skywalker Saga is a kids game, but even kids games have some challenging levels.
@@brianmeans5965 Exactly. When I played The Complete Saga as a kid, I figured out what to do without the game being dumbed down for me. The Skywalker Saga felt way too easy at times, especially for Lego game veterans like me who played the old games over a decade ago.
@@MikeJr9284 I played both. The puzzles were the exact same difficulty. Only slightly difficult puzzles in tcs where ones where its was poorly designed.(Like having to break every object in a level searching for items.)
I like how the ones defending its flaws by it being for kids are adults who can't handle a game not being perfect. I don't mind you defending a game you like, but don't do it for dumb reasons like that.
@@channel45853 I like how most people here are pretending tcs was some miracle of game design when it quite literally is no different then skywalker saga. Im not at all saying tcs was bad, but it was literally just a technically inferior version of the same game.(With a added nostalgia bonus.)
I also find the lack of force lightning as a move with Dooku and Palpatine annoying, especially after ROTS Palpatine as he did not use a single lightsaber afterwards and used them just to mock the Jedi. Ps. All I wanted is to do those huge leap jumps the dark side bosses did in TCS... :(
Hell, the 4 "examples", aren't even bad games, the worst there, Lego Movie 1, is alright at best, it's not even the worst Lego Movie Videogame, game, because the 2nd is vastly worse
@@varisrevolver4061 Seriously. It sounds like this DoktorSkipper guy was expecting a Red Dead Redemption II or something. It's still the **best** lego game to release in my opinion.
Personally i loved the game but i understand why some dont, this is the first lego game ive played since the original on PS2. It brought my love for Lego Star wars back. Good video man keep em coming
Yeah idk I really liked it. But I’ve played almost every Lego game (besides the really old computer games, and the lord of the rings one) and there hasn’t been a single one I didn’t enjoy.
As someone who loves this game to death I completely agree with you on almost every point you said. Without a doubt, one of my biggest gripes with the game is playing levels where you fight other saber users in free play. Most of the time when scripted events come up, like moving to a new area or deflecting lighting back at someone, whatever character you choose will switch to the default character used in story mode. In most cases I can understand why this would happen but I think we’ve reached far enough in technological advances to where this shouldn’t be an issue. Take “better call maul” for example, even in scripted events, you characters don’t switch and stay the same. Unlike the Palpatine fight where both characters switch when deflecting lightning. This might be a nit pick but I’m sorry for wanting to fight the Emperor as old luke fighting alongside old Ben when I could make Grievous and Yoda duel on Mustafar in the Complete Sage
23:21 Not even gonna lie, several non-OG story based Lego games later down the line always did that shit. Like, they could never find a good balance between comedy/filler and following the source material.
@Coochie Kong Lord of the Rings was smart in that it mostly kept the jokes to the background, while scenes played out normally. Like when Frodo gets stabbed on Weathertop, Sam and Strider act like they did originally, but in the background, Merry and Pippin appear with surgeon masks and a stretcher. That's funny and doesn't bring the story to a standstill.
I guess you are right. But I saw LEGO games always more as a collecting game than a difficult action game. And that's actually a point they are doing pretting great here. As you said, exploring is quite cool.
@@airplanefood3576 nope the levels had a bunch of puzzles you had to think at least a bit for, and platfrorming and if droids attacked you you would jave to destroy them because they are agressive and not braindead.
Honestly I'm just questioning what the Devs were thinking while making this. Like we get, what, 45 levels? Most of which are fetch quests or something and done in 5 minutes? With 300 characters sure, but no custom or ghosts? It makes me wonder why they didn't just revamp the old existing content with a modern flare. Couldn't be that much more work. You already have 36 levels from the Complete Saga, would it have been that much more work to make 18 levels for the Sequels? It feels like there was a lot of untapped/wasted potential here. Like getting a sandwich, but it's just 2 slices of bread.
Part of it is probably because they had to use a crappy buggy engine, heard the devs wanted to use unreal but higher ups forced them to use their own engine which sucked.
@@TheOne69Even so, you can't tell me they're using a worse engine than they did for Clone Wars, Awakens, or Saga, and all of those had way more in depth levels.
@@ventusargentum9957 yes but those games were a lot smaller in comparison. Making a game as big as tss , on a shitty engine, with a team that I don't think is the biggest, is not going to be easy.
@@TheOne69 Bigger? Sure if you count the hub worlds, but those aren't even that big. We've had a lot bigger and in depth hubs in past games. Which is why I said they could have reused the old content and re-vamped it with modern flair/mechanics. That would have significantly cut down on their workload.
I’m with you in feeling extremely let down. I barely got into Ep.IV after blazing through episodes I-III before putting it down. It was after the Kashyyk mission that I realized “this isn’t getting any better.” I was never sure why, and thought “okay well, everyone loves this, it must not be made for me.” But this video put all of my feelings into words. Yeah this game is a 5/10.
I only got through ep1 and halfway through ep 2 and stopped playing, I really felt baited by the gameplay trailer and all the online reviews of people saying how good this game was. I legit saw comments of people saying this game was going to challenge Elden Ring for game of the year.
@@denizbeytekin9853 I think relying too heavily on nostalgia was a big reason why TT knew that this game was going to sell, no matter how mediocre it was...
@@imchallenger5877 oof, I hope this year of gaming isn't that bad that Skywalker Saga is the only contender to Elden Ring, lol. But I think they just love the game, way more than most of us in this video do, and had as much fun with it as they did with Elden Ring.
Totally agree with every word and thanks for the laughs along the way. Bought this on day one and hated it. Playing it now because I paid a lot of money for it and still hating it. Thanks again for your honest, informed and entertaining review.
Anyone remember the battlefield/sandbox missions were you would build bases and attack large armies of droids with your clones. I loved that and wish that it would get remastered in this game.
I was pretty underwhelmed by Skywalker saga tbh, I remember in the old games the characters had unique characteristics, like jar jar could jump higher everyone, Yoda walked much slower than everyone so I would move by attacking, R2 could fly, I'm sure there are more but I don't remember.
@@mansifacio5458 this game litterally doesnt, take it from someone who had thoroughly played both, the new has very underwhelming character quirks, everyone is the exact same as anyone else in their class, boba's jetpack isnt even a viable option for puzzle solving anymore becuase they nerfed it to oblivion, the fact that we cant fly really saddened me, it could have been something so much unique however i still very much enjoy and apreciate the environment, but they really missed the mark on the fun factor where everything is supposed to be chaotic it feels so fucking slow
One cool thing is that in Episode VI if you are playing with a friend when Luke challenges Vader, Player 1 plays as Luke and Player 2 gets to be Vader with a boss healthbar. I find it pretty epic to duel your friend, HOWEVER This would’ve been so much better with online co-op as you said.
Half the planets have only one location, planets like hoth and crait you can't go outside, no ground vehicles, no Yoda death noise, some important scenes and battles are skipped, some planets are missing and not in free roam, and no character customization. I hope TT games properly finish what they started
YOU DON'T LIKE THE SKYWALKER SAGA?!? THAT IS... Completely fair. No really. I like it but I'd be lying if I said there wasn't huge problems with the game. Granted this is just me but it feels like the game took anti-frustration to another level in that the puzzles are really easy and even in The Complete Saga it was easy but not THIS easy. The game has the minikit detector being a core upgrade you can buy and not being an extra you have to collect a datacard to purchase. There's also what everyone else has said, the story of the films feel EXTREMELY condensed and the levels are very short. The Complete Saga by comparison took it's time with it's levels. It's like the game is encouraging you to do side missions and do some collectable hunting in-between levels to pad it out. You don't even get to do the battle over Endor in Return Of The Jedi. Plus the glitches and bugs the game has. The one most people talk about being the Maz glitch in TFA where you literally cannot progress the story because the game will not let you talk to her. I thankfully did not encounter this but alot have and it can only be resolved by starting a a new save and hoping for the best. So yeah, I like it and it's fun but for me The Complete Saga is still the definitive Lego Star Wars game. It's still a close second though, it's a good foundation for future Lego games but one that needs fixing before the next one.
I feel LEGO games always managed to walk the line between humor and staying close to the source material. With Skywalker Saga they've gone too far in a few places. They felt the need to insert jokes into nearly every scene (background jokes are the most annoying, as the sound effects are way too loud and drown out the actual dialogue). I also have issues with the level structure and how developers have seemingly tried to rush through certain movies. There were also plenty of moments that were playable in Complete Saga but turned into a rushed cutscene in Skywalker Saga. All in all, I think there is a lot potential in this game, but I'm not putting my money on WB Games and Traveler Tales spending more funds on story DLC. On to the next project they go!
I just want to say thank you for this "honest critique" Doktor Skipper! it's amazing how nowadays, everytime you want to speak or criticize something, there's some kind of police of the internet telling you what you have to do or not, and it's honestly obnoxious... I actually like TSS "a lot" (waited for it since it's first project announcement) but i can say for sure that it isn't the best Lego Star Wars game and it was mostly overreaction because of the usual generated hype (i mean what isn't now...), in my opinion TCW was and trust me it's not nostalgia talking (for some it's still TCS, wich is fair but in all honesty, it aged quite a bit), in TCW there was so much stuff to do and it was only 2 or 3 Episodes of TCW show, the IA wasn't inactive and could kills you plenty of times, the levels design were well thought and engaging (like the STR/RTS sections), sure the graphics aren't on par with TSS (i mean it's still a pretty old game by nowadays standart) but it aged pretty well (especially on PC), there's no voice acting though, just Mumbles like for TCS. Anyway, i really enjoyed the video, you've earned yourself a like.
Look I'm not meaning to boast but I managed to beat Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 when I was four years old....game devs you need to understand that a bit of challenge is something good to put in a game. i'm not saying be Dark Souls or World at War on Veteran difficulty (I refuse to play through on that difficulty) but give kids some pushback! Is this why we are how we are as a society? Participation trophies and easy games that beat themselves? NOTHING SHOULD BE BEATING ITSELF AROUND CHILDREN!!!
Found out somewhere else that the developers were extremely unhappy with the final product as they had a vision which kept getting changed and thrown out by the higher ups
As someone who played the absolute crap out of the original Lego Star Wars, I'm glad I'm not the only one who realized all the cool missions were rushed cut scenes, and the in game missions were point A to B nonsense.
There were parts of the missions where you can get sidetracked trying to obtain cyber bricks or other items I feel like people with this critique only have 30% of each story completed because they only did the missions and nothing else
I completely agree and yet.. I still love the game. Not because it's challenging but because its the opposite. I Need something like this to escape from my constant rage when playing games that actually have challenge. Plus I think my favorite thing is playing hide and seek with my little sister. Despite that, all your critiques are valid and i don't disagree whatsoever.
I actually find myself drifting away from consciousness when I’m in free play and exploring the hub worlds, idk if it’s just the lack of action and pretty scenery or I’m just tired but it’s pretty constant💀
i think a difficulty setting would be a great move for lego games, considering a lot of its oldest players are grown adults now, it’d be nice to have a challenge
What I dislike most about these latest lego games, is how bloated they’ve become. There are more than 1000 kyber bricks, the majority of which is collected by doing the same things over and over again in an open world that looks great, but doesn’t feel alive. Meanwhile, half of the actual content in the game becomes unavailable after the first playthrough, as they’re not part of the levels. On top of that, moments like chasing Grievous or Windu vs Palpatine are skipped or left to a rushed cutscene just to get to the next bit. It’s a shame that this game had so much potential and could’ve been as memorable as TCS, instead it is largely forgotten about….
This is the type of review we need on 'Modern video games'... back in the day developers could not make their games look amazing like they can now. So they made up for it with gameplay to keep us invested.. but now all developers care about is making a game that looks good that has no consequences to the gameplay and it's pretty watch a movie because once you start it you can't fail on finishing it unless you turn it off. I really do hate modern gaming everything looks so good until you play it. And you realize the games don't even look as good as you thought and they have horrible gameplay systems🤦♂️ what a time to be alive!
I turned off the auto aim. Made it slightly harder for space battles and it made it more fun. The game is extremely easy, but you can make it harder on purpose to get rid of some of the monotony.
If you want to know how easy this game is, you can upgrade it so you can skip the mini puzzles while you're trying to access terminals. Since they can be done in like two seconds, I just do them anyway to get some extra few studs. Again, these are part of the upgrades which you have to earn, but the fact there's a way to skip these puzzles just shows how easy the game is. Plus that just tells me the developers themselves know how tedious they are by adding a way to skip them.
Amen. I’m so glad to hear people have the same opinions about this game as I do. I don’t dislike the game just because I’m a hater. I have legitimate reasons why I didn’t enjoy it.
I hate the argument that some stuff is “for kids” cause unless it’s pre school level then many/most stuff can be enjoyed by everyone and can often be made for everyone I don’t mind Lego games being easy, all of them are easy and it doesn’t make the games any less fun. I do agree that it sucks that it removes some essential scenes from being playable and many levels are way too short. I also agree that custom characters should be in the game too. I don’t mind the ui myself and plus you can customize it
Nah you're totally right. It's not really an argument, just the usual and sorry for the vulagrity, but piss poor excuse to protect the ego of people who are that insecure about their own tastes (as always with almost everything nowadays), ever heard about the famous "Think about the children!"? yeah, that's the same one but for a different purpose. Not the first time grown adults hide behind the poor kids when it feels conveniant... imagine them trying to tell us that kids nowadays never played popular games such as Dark Souls (or more recently with Elden Ring), Overwatch or even Fortnite but would just play with those "braindead kids games", let's be real, they knows pretty well they'd fools no one with this level of bullshit but tries anyway.
Stuff can be for kids and adults. Look at many Pixar or similar animated films for example. An adult can enjoy Cars, the incredibles, etc and still have fun with it despite being for kids because nonetheless it is well made and has some substance to it
I will say I agree with most of this, however one of your main criticisms is that there is no pressure and you can't fail. If you are trying to complete challenges this kind of changes. You aren't allowed to die for the entire level for some of them, and theres a lot more that can add a good amount of difficulty, and they can add more fun to the game I found.
I remember just getting the game on impulse and I remember getting to the occupation of naboo and was honestly so disappointed, it felt like there was hardly any droids. I would’ve at least expected maybe like 20 droids or something
Biggest problem with the game is that it's too goofy. They don't know the difference between an emotional scene and filling one with gagas the entire time. It ruins any semblance of retelling the story. The Complete Saga did it FAR better. It was funny, but it didn't take away from the story the entire time.
I always thought that the game was stupidly easy. The only time I died to an enemy is when a blaster bolt I fired got deflected back into my face during a boss battle. Or when I walk off a cliff
