I’m thinking that I was right and originally I did use bubblegum pink, but bernat blanket changed up their yarn colors, or the dye lots are just different! So what do I do next?
I say take apart the first arm, and use the correct color towards his body for both arms, then have an ombre affect going down towards the hands with the other pinks. I think that would look super cute, and almost intentional as well.
As a former Joann employee: hold on to your labels. It will tell you what shade the yarn is in and also what the dye lot is. If they don’t have it, they may be able to call another store and find it in the correct dye lot
The worst nightmare of a crocheter is realizing you made a severe mistake at the very beginning and the only way to fix it is by going back to the start and undoing weeks of progress. Edit: And as another commenter said, when you only realize the mistake AFTER you cut the yarn. Now your project is broken forever and there's nothing you can do but watch your failure.
As a beginner it happens to me ALL the time 😭 Half the time if it's not a very noticeable mistake I just keep going it I'm far enough in lmfaooo especially if I've already dome color changes and such.
I recently had to tink back (no, not frog, tink) 6 rows in my knitting. I debated for a solid minute if I could fudge it but alas it was necessary. While dye lot problems are real I do this this is worse lol
Omgggg this just happened to me the other day. I was going on my last skein of yarn and I laid the blanket out and noticed it looked like a damn tortillita instead of a blanket….
As a JoAnn store employee, I can tell you that stores never carry the same dye lots. Always check the dye lot before buying and look for multiple skeins of the same dye lot. Also, side tip buy extra. It's always better to have too many skeins of the same dye lot then run out and not have the right dye lot. (If you order online, they will not send you the same dye lot either. Don't ask me why.)
lol I used to work at Joann too.. it’s probably cause we’re packaging the yarn at the store and not paying attention to the lots, just making sure its the correct product and shipping it out asap
wow thanks for the info I dont usually have to worry about it bc I get pick ups but when I do order I get whats only available online- usually kaleidoscope wool- but it's all supposed to be running colors anyway so it isn't a big deal. I'm glad I havnt had this problem yet

No, it is definitely too light. And the first one is way too dark. Bernat Blanket loves to change the amount of dye pigment they put into their dye lots. It happens to a lot of fibre artists, and I can only imagine how annoying it is.
No, because it will look like you tried to match it then failed. If you pick the darker one, it looks more intentional. I would pick the darker one and make the choice more of a statement if you know what i mean
Oh man that stinks, do you by chance have its “rapper” or tag (I forgot what it’s called 😭) but if you do go online and search up that “flavor” or color and see if you can get it as close as possible even if it’s a different brand 😊♥️

I looked it up at different stores (even including amazon) just to see if anywhere else had it and none of the stores did. Not a huge deal. It's happened twice in my crocheting blankets phase. Which out of crocheting for almost 20 years, isn't too bad
Make both of his arms in a different colour from the body, so the arms match each other. I think the lighter pink is closer to the body colour and will look good when the project is finished.
Exactly what I was thinking, except I like the darker color for the arms, though the lighter color doesn't make as loud of a statement about the arms as the lighter color.
That's what I would do. It might be a "mistake" but if you make both arms with the same yarn nobody will guess that it wasn't an intentional design decision.
I support this. I had to learn it the hard way when I was in the middle of crocheting a blanket and went back to buy more yarn just to be told they ran out or yarn because they were discontinuing it. Apparently I bought from their last batch :( . So buy more than you think you’ll need if you can afford it.
I was expecting something much more destructive as "the worst thing that can happen to a crocheter". (Like, did it catch on fire?) Dye lot problems used to be really common. I would undo the first arm and do both arms in the same color. You've got this!
That is the best idea! I had my right arm severed and reimplanted at 27 due to a mva. I have my arm it's just a bit different than it was! Scars can be cool:)
Even real cats arent always the same colour all over, darn on some patches of both colours, use the light pink for a front and back leg, use the dark for the opposite front and back leg, and mix it in the tail!! 😊

The crochet community is amazing. You put out a call with the yarn brand, colour and dye lot and someone will find it, or if they have it, give it or sell it to you.
That’s why I always save the paper from around the roll until I’m done with a project so that I’m able to find the exact thing I’m looking for if I run out.
Yep! Always keep the paper sleeve in the project bag. And if you ball winder a skein or hank it's super easy to fold up the paper and put it in the middle of the ball as you take it off the winder. It still might be impossible to find the right dye lot, but at least you'll know what you're looking for.
It’s also helpful because you should check the Lot Number along with the product color. Especially for fiber, different lots can be the same dye process but turn out like the examples in the video.
You could give the Snorlax a dark pink blanket draped across their arm with a little bit of the arm sticking out so you can still make it flow and look really cute.
I’m a crocheter and I would definitely use the lighter pink because once you actually crochet it together you’ll get a darker colour because it’s more tightly packed
Nope. I think you're wrong. I used a peachey color in my temperature blanket. It looks peachey in the original ball, but then white in my work. It kinda makes me sad.
@@IntrovertedBeari hate when that happens! I used a dark navy blue to make a mesh shrug, and it turned lighter and it annoyed me so much! The darker color was what I wanted :(
If you have the lot number for the previous yarn you used I'd ask around on the crochet groups on Facebook and such and you'd very likely be able to buy the yarn from someone to finish him. :) I see people do stuff like that often
I think with her saying “I definitely used one of these colors, who knows?” Implies she no longer has the tag that says the name or lot number but it would be a good idea if she did
This is why I always keep the wrapper of the yarns I’m using until I’m finished the project. Then you’d have the dye lot number and possibly be able to find a matching ball of yarn
me too! i also have a 'yarn book' where i crochet a sample (so you can see how the yarn looks crocheted) and tape it next to the label on it's own page, just in case i need it again later
I'd undo the completed arm and make two-town arms with the reclaimed main color and your white/cream. The top to 1/3rd down in the pink, then switch the lighter pink for 1/3rd, then white for a little less than 1/3rd, then finish with your primary pink.
This has been happening very frequently with not just yarn colors but a lot of other types of items, for example colored candles. I work in retail and some of the dyed things we get were drastically different colors than the old stuff we used to get and I believe it’s supply issues
I’ve seen this happening with stitching/embroidery thread as well. I wanted to stitch mermaids on a baby towel for my niece and remembered that I saw a metallic green yarn at my local art and crafting shop which would be perfect for the fish tail part. (Sorry, English is not my native language 😅) I ordered it online because it was cheaper. When it arrived it wasn’t a nearly teal green, it was more like grass green and also had copper strands in it?! I thought I got a different one, but when I was at the local store the nearly teal one had the exact same item number. If they don’t change the appearance of their products from time to time, the problem is probably that they can’t get all the stuff they need for production anymore, or they got too pricey and they do tiny adjustments because of this which sometimes totally change the color. 🤷🏼♀️
@@roonilwazlib5402 my grandma told me this has been a common thing for decades. Basically anything dyed in batches will never be an exact match. Sometimes the difference will be subtle, sometimes it will be so noticeable you'll think you bought the wrong supplies. 😢
Just the other day I went to buy my usual hair serum and several of the bottles were green. The bottle is usually a very subtle green, almost like a translucent olive gray green, if that makes sense? But some of the bottles were _green_ . Like Nickelodeon slime green. I had to double check that just the bottle was green and not the serum itself. Also that the labels and everything else was the same. It was. It wasn’t a big deal, far from having dye lot issues, but it was just so odd.
her point is the actual batch that came in of a specific color. different batches can be slightly off color, bubble gum pink #whatevernumber can be a whole slew of shades depending on the dye
@@llamaworld835 that's why I said to keep the label. It has a number on it that says which specific batch the yarn came from, called the dye lot. Balls from the same dye lot will match, balls from different lots are not guaranteed to. Folks on sites like ravelry will often list their yarn for sale or trade with the dye lot so you can find a match.
@caraminez - Ding Ding! This exactly! Of course the exception is you have the stuff like I'm using that doesn't have a dye lot because it hasn't been dyed but the original I purchased, uh... a Really long time ago the new stuff, while the company still makes it, it doesn't match. So the top of the sweater I'm making is a tad lighter than the bottom. Welllll, we'll just call that a "design feature"! 😂😂😂🤦🏻♀️
Give Snorlax a cardigan out of the darker pink, make his arms the cardigan sleeves. It won't be removable but you might be able to fudge it so it looks on purpose.
@@mydogeatspuke exactly. And if I'm following a pattern I always buy an extra ball and sometimes two because I crochet tighter sometimes. It really depends on what is going on in my familys lives and how anxious I am. Although, crocheting usually relaxes me. ✌️ ✌️ 💜 💜

I never understood Why mom was so insistent on me checking the corresponding Numbers on the yarn i would buy until i made my first sweater and realized half was a shade darker. It absolutely sucks that They cant dye it somewhat similarly so now i always double check for bigger projects
This happened to me with a blanket I made for my mother in law. One of the skeins I used was lighter and I didn’t realize till I finished. I didn’t know this was why!
I ran out of yarn for the limbs of an axolotl recently, I ended up having to get a smaller size of the same color because the larger size was discontinued-
You could unravel the one arm, and make it white with only the pink on the top/outer side so the hand and inner arm are white. That would leave enough of the correct pink to do both. Since you already used that white. It'll look intentional and cohesive.
The first time this happened to me, I was so confused! 😅 So now I try to get an extra ball of yarn for each project and use the leftovers for mini projects or accents
Omg this is so annoying this always happens to me, in ur situation I would just redo the arm with the darker pink and make the other arm dark pink too then add some elements to the snorlax in that dark pink
secret more sinister option: make the arms gradient by starting with the yarn you originally used and use the darker pink towards the base / hands so that it all comes together
A technique I use is folding the yarn label flat, punching a hole in it, and slip-knotting a sample scrap onto it, so I have the color name, brand, and an actual swatch of the color all at once. Hope this helped ❣️❣️
The Joanns near us has horrible lighting I can’t tell you how many times we have gotten a color off shade wise even when bringing the yarn with us! I am hoping that’s not all of their stores!!😊
Make both the arms matching. Either both arms solid in the new shade, or pull the finished arm back to the point the 2nd arm ends and finish them both in the slightly lighter shade. It will look more consistent and like a design choice than a dyelot mismatch
I think the yarn being different is actually real neat! I think his arms could be really cute a different color than his body, like an artistic impression. The lighter pink is closer if you want similar, but the darker pink would make a neat contrast. I just tey to see the best in situations like this and run with it. 💕
Always save the wrapper that comes with the yarn to be able to match the dye lot. Also, always get at least one extra skein than the pattern calls for. I usually get 2 extra. Of course if you are making your own pattern it's a little trickier. Your Snorlax is amazing.
I recommend going to a yarn store and (bring your snorlax) ask if they have that shade. If you don’t find it, maybe make the arm a full covered arm accessory
My roommate crocheted a Snorlax and ran out of yarn too when they had to do the arms. They crocheted a tree branch with berries on it to hide the fact that the arm was a different color
I got an idea - since you already got one arm done, you got some yarn with the correct pink shade. Therefore, if you don't mind the hassle, you can unravel the arm then make two 'upper arms' with the correct pink shade. Use the white yarn (same color as the belly) to make the 'lower arms'. The lower part would look like gloves.
or you could do one arm lighter pink then chaange the color to the darker pink and do the same to the other arm or opposite stripes or you can unravel the first arm and put three stripes on each arm to make it so cute!! or you could do lots of stripes. you could also make small arms to match it with one of the arms that you made. I hope you decide soon. maybe you should make 2 arms of each color and pin it to the snorlax to see what color you like best
I say you just keep him like a little blob. Make him into a little Snorlax snowman when the holidays come around by making a little top hat or scarf, and he’ll be the Snorlax snowman.
This is why I (slightly) prefer knitting 😅 a lot of times you can just go down one column and fix the problem. Also, knitting uses less yarn and is gentler on the yarn if you have to frog it.
