A custom-made Ford E Series Custom Dash Panel

While it was designed using an E450 dash, this custom dash should fit any 2009 and later Ford E-series dash, including E150, E250, E350 and E450.
I needed a spot on my Motorhome's dash panel to mount a brake controller remote (RVIBrake) for my towed vehicle. Mounting requires an accessory outlet that the controller plugs into.
If ordering the E series vans without the Upfitter option, the upper dash area has an almost useless storage compartment and coin holder. Since it was not doing a whole lot, I modified it for a better purpose.

thanks for showing me what that hole looks like. I've been considering putting a CB radio in that spot on my van.

Thank you so much for this GREAT information. I just uploaded my 1st panel to Panel Express. A modified one of the upper E-450 panel you posted. I HATE those cameras on the right and left and put switches.. plus USB outlet and a mounting plate for my Garmin RV780 using RAM mounts. The link you offer for the name plates is awesome too. Cant believe I've been RV-ing all these years and not come across any of this info without your post. Lots of great stuff here!

I'm unclear about that unused plug that was hiding behind the coin slot panel. Would that be there on my E250 or was it just a 450 thing? I have a feeling no, but that would be great if it was.

If the van was ordered with the upfitter option, it would have included a panel with 4 switches that plugged into that plug. This would be for equipment that the coach builder wanted to install. For example, if the chassis were going to be made into an ambulance, the upfitter switches could be used for the siren, emergency lights, etc. whatever the coach builder needed. With any E series van that has the same black filler/coin panel, I would assume it would also have that plug. You should be able to find a source of power from the plug.

You can order one yourself. From my resources page on my website: www.rv-project.com/resources/e450.php pick out the panel you want. I have two designs there - a blank one, and one for the components I show in the video. Download the image file for the panel you want. It will be a .FPD file. Next, go to the Front Panel website: shop.frontpanelexpress.com/#Shop which is the place I order the panels from. Simply upload the panel at that website and purchase it. There are several videos on my website on how to do this. Also, if you want to make any modifications to the panel you may do so. But that does require you to download the Front Panel Designer from the Front Panel website. Again, there is a video on my website showing how to do this.

I really like your attention to detail. The zip ties on the wire loom and the well done crimps really make it look good.

Thanks for doing this, I used your blank panel, to create one with locations for 6 rocker switches. Looks fantastic, thanks again.

Great mod! Thanks. We have an E450 with a Pioneer H/U with no volume knob and no steering wheel controls, only small volume buttons. Very hard to control while bouncing down the road. Trying to figure out how to combine this dash mod with some type of rotary encoder tied to the H/U’s wired remote input to control volume more easily.

where can I get the exact panel you made? is there a number for it in front panel express?
@RVProject
@RVProject 4 года назад
The front panel is my design. But I have uploaded that design into my website at www.rv-project.com/resources/e450.php On that webpage, you will find a collection of every front panel I have designed for RV projects. The dash panel you need will be near the top. After downloading the panel, go to the bottom of the webpage and watch the video on how to order the front panel from front panel express.

Clicking of the desires template "download" does not do anything for me but generate a string of numbers....no download to the program. How does this work??....Paul

You need to “save as file” when downloading the template. You then need to download the “Front Panel Express Designer” from the link provided and open the template with the designer. You can order the panel directly from the designer. There is a video on the webpage explaining how to do it.

I think i might do this. I've got a few cnc machines in my shop so i don't need to order anything online.

A car cassette player would fit there...
@RVProject
@RVProject 5 лет назад
You would have to remove some of the metal dash frame behind the panel to put any kind of stereo in there. Besides, just below that location is a Stereo with 7" video screen (for the rear-view camera) and disk player, so no need for a second stereo system.
@oscarflores1980
@oscarflores1980 5 лет назад
@@RVProject Well, at least one of those smaller car cassette players from "Realistic" would fit there and it doesn't have AM/FM just a cassette player itself. I'm not sure if you haven't seen them before but it's one of those smallest car stereo players ever.

I've wanted to ask where you get those "P" connectors you've used in several of your projects. I've checked several automotive and electrical supplies here in Alaska and no one seems to carry them.
@RVProject
@RVProject 7 лет назад
For most projects, I have an associated webpage (www.rv-project.com/projects/upperdash.php in the case of this project) that I provide additional information, parts sources, etc. I had to mail-order the P connectors here: amzn.to/2i78ch3

Well done, how the hell did you get the dash out for the radio? Total pain in the ......
@RVProject
@RVProject 8 лет назад
You don't need to remove the dash to do this upgrade. The coin holder/storage tray simply snaps into place. You just pry behind it to remove it.
@higgy243

Yeah I know but I need to change radio too, unsnapped it but can't get it around shifter and steering wheel
@RVProject
@RVProject 8 лет назад
I think I recall reading that if you move the shifter from park, you might be able to get it out. On the other hand, its not usually necessary to remove the dash to replace the stereo If you have a Jensen stereo (as many E series RVs do), there is a radio removal tool that the RV companies usually don't supply. I was able to get the tool free for the asking from Jensen. Try to find an owner's manual for your stereo to see how it removes.
