A few years ago I spent a super hot August day riding random trails and exploring Cuyamaca. I ran out of water and was getting dehydrated and bad leg cramps. Luckily I came across an empty campground with running water. I think I drank at least 2-liters of water before riding off again back to my car.

I have heard similar stories from several people riding out there. I think people underestimate how strenuous that ride can be. We almost did the same thing. All of us were out of water at the end, which is pretty rare in my group.

I road these same trails last year and decided its definitely my favorite route in San Diego so far. It’s so pretty and quiet. I didn’t run into anyone the whole time I was out there.

Same for us. I couldn't believe how empty it was, and it's so beautiful!

I was out there last fall and rode from Paso Picacho. It rained earlier in the week and when I left for my ride it was early in the morning. The trail had quite a bit of ice on it but didn’t think too much about it. An hour later it warmed up and the ice melted off and I was completely stuck in the mud. No where to go. Mud for miles!

That sounds like an adventure. I don't think we rode Paso Picacho. Was it fun?

@@MTBTrailReview there’s a fun single track section but not worth it unless you’re camping there. Only because it’s pretty short. It spits you out across the road that goes up to the mine. I just did Indian Creek on Friday and enjoy that ride a lot more. I’d like to loop Indian Creek from the Cuyamaca side. Do Nobel Canyon from the junction and ride back up the paved road to hit Indian Creek again on the way back to the car. That would be getting some right there.

That would be quite a ride. I agree that Indian Creek is more enjoyable.

It's a fun one! I think this is where we started: www.google.com/maps/place/Cold+Stream+Trail,+Julian,+CA+92036/@32.9712853,-116.5794721,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x80dbd7a6eb5dd937:0xcffc72667f12119e!8m2!3d32.9712853!4d-116.5768918!16s%2Fg%2F11g61pcmbp?entry=ttu There are several places where you can park and make a loop, or set up a shuttle.

I got lost there when I was young. Been meaning to go back to find the trails.

It's pretty easy to get lost out there. Trailforks was very helpful.

Been out recently to many of the local trails like Otay reserve and upper/lower lakes and have encountered large aggressive rattlers. Be careful out there.

We saw one on this ride stretched out across one of the fire road connectors. They are definitely out right now!
