A Danganronpa Character Tier List in 2023 

Your opinions certainly strike a balance of being incredibly based and unbased. Overall, I mostly agree with the tier list

I don’t really agree with Kaede being a mary sue.. I thought the whole thing with her character is that Shuichi and everyone else more so romanticizes her and her sacrifice… rather than her just being straight up perfect. People originally flocked to her because she was kind, charismatic, determined… At least at first. All of that washed away after the Death Road to Despair section, where Kokichi rightfully calls her out for pushing everyone past their limits. Kaede’s shown to be inconsiderate in the face of her goals. She’ll keep barreling on without any regard for other people, because she’s so confident in her logic. And when she’s met with a ‘brick wall’, she flounders. It’s that part of her that makes her so convinced there’s a mastermind and makes her attempt to kill… And while she technically didn’t actually murder anyone, she what matters is that she still had killing intent. Kaede is nowhere near perfect… but because the others of V3 were so touched by her actions, they convinced themselves that she was. I definitely think her not being a murderer still undermined that point though. Since she technically didn’t commit a crime, she’s absolved of all her wrongs in the audience’s eye… That’s just how I see it at least. All that aside, you’re a Kokichi truther so you’re 100% based lmao.

Kokichi's the main reason I got into Danganronpa and because of that, he's my favorite in the whole series

Mondo. Is. my favorite Danganronpa character of all time. I love his free time events and love him outside of the killing game. Mostly because you can see him wanting and trying to be a better man. I love that the reason he killed was out of blinding rage and it's something I have dealt. with. Getting into fights, breaking things, but Mondo in a weird way helped me grow. I still have some of those treats but I can point them in a better direction of being a protector over just fighting. Him willing to throw away his talent to do something else is what really inspired me to grow up. Part of being a man to me is always trying to be better than you were the day before.

Chapter 5 making me cry like a little bitch over Kaito and Kokichi I never forget it. I think replaying the game and whatching people react to them kinda made me like em more. Because what do I wanna see when someonelse plays the games again? They reactions to Nagito and Kokichi. Asmuch as I love Nagito tho Kokichi still remains my favorite.Its like you sayed such a wel writen charackter.WHAT MAKES YOU COME UP WITH SUCH A GOAT HONESTLY?! Such a unique lying little- I mean he is great honestly its not a lie... He inspired me to make better antags tbh.

i agree with the kokichi one, i hate when people say hes a bad charater because of the bad things he did, i will admit he did bad things but he has reasons for it, he even tried to end the killing game by outsmarting monokuma and he almost did it, and chapter 2 he was trying to get everyone to see eachothers motive videos so they can tell who has the most motive to escape and they know who to avoid and watch out for.

How I see Kaede isn't as a Mary Sue. I think the game does want you to see her that way in the bonus content, but in the main story she's definitely far from one. I'll give a few examples. - Kaede her optimism is seen as annoying by various characters like Kokichi & Maki. - The death Road of Despair makes one of Kaede's biggest flaw clear she's too stubborn. When she has a goal she's set on she doesn't take no for an answer. Her second flaw is her lack of trust in others. She keeps preaching about trusting and working together. When she herself doesn't trust the rest of the group and works alone on her own plan with the shot put ball. I feel like the point of her character is that she appears perfect at first, but when you play chapter 1 and it's revealed she tries to kill someone you start to look at her personality a bit more differently.

Leon did NOT kill out of self defense. That's the whole narrative of the first chapter. Neither are innocent.

So now for my takes of the DR 1 Characters (MALE EDITION) Makoto: He's fine. The guy is supposed to be the first protagonist so I cannot deny that's the point still a bit boring. So neutral. Chihiro: My favorite. I feel Chihiro's arc is sad yet beautiful because he was one of the innocent characters of DR 1. Despite his small role, his story of opening up is sweet and probably has the saddest conclusion. Kiyotaka: He used to be my favorites because I can understand he was dealing with school issues and stuff. As well as the curse of being a special kid. So I relate to that. But he didn't do anything special and his arc of being Mondo 2.0 was nonsensical and has the biggest character wasted potential in the series so yeah he's neutral in my book. Byakuya: I like Byakuya. Sure he is your typical rich jerk but he definitely has the best development in the series. Which is nice. He may be unlikeable which is understandable because of his actions at Chapter 2. But overall he's a fine rival but not as compelling as the next two counterparts. Yasuhiro: Ugh....out of all the DR characters I dislike this guy so much. I get he's supposed to be comedic relief yet he's so frustrating. His backstory makes him pathetic and I wished his talent was kind of useful. Yet they made a Clairvoyant be used for a dumb guy. Hifumi: Okay I actually don't despise Hifumi. Sure he's not the best character and I highly doubt he's supposed to be. He's pathetic and I may not like his actions especially when he treated a kid poorly. As well as his pervert actions...yet at least he's more bearable than Teruteru because ehhhh. But I do appreciate that out of the DR students he does treat his profession seriously. And I like how he does believe fanfiction can work if put into good use. And unpopular opinion but I kind of feel bad he perished and the way he goes out is kind of sad. Not my favorite but he's probably my hate to love type. Leon: Probably the character I forgot about. There's nothing special to say about Leon beyond him acting like a punk or his conflicted feelings on his talent. I do like how Leon gave up on his talent not because of a tragic backstory, but because he doesn't want to be associated with it and try new things. And out of all the characters, he is a perfect culprit because his reckless actions made him the one to start the Game. And I liked him for that. Overall I don't care for Leon but he and Sayaka were perfect for iniating the game. Mondo: My second favorite besides Chihiro. I pity this guy and tragic he becomes the culprit of the story. He wants to be a better man, but his guilt over the loss of his brother made him the saddest culprits for me. I love that yes he is your typical rough yet soft guy. But a guy unable to let go of his ideals of masculinity that it resulted in his own downfall. Which is why he and Chihiro are my favorite male characters here.

Disagree on Hina being overrated as I never actually see anyone talk about her or really discuss her, and also she did do stuff pre-chapter 4, like provide evidence that Makoto didn't take the knife and was the one who found alter ego. it's not a lot but she did do stuff

This is late, but I got back into danganronpa after so long a couple months ago (random, but due to playing p5r finally), and it's so nice to see new content like yours still talking about a ""dead"" game I'm still in the process of watching the rest of your vids, but I'm really loving it so far! How you talk about the dr games so fondly while being fully critical about the problems is so amazing and admirable. I really love your objective views in things, I can tell you feel really passionate about this series (saying that because i feel the same) But I ESPECIALLY love how you talk about the all the main trilogy characters here. Your analysis on them was so on point and I really admire how you don't put too much of your biases on their rankings and instead decided to look on them at an objective lens (which you did really well on! I found myself agreeing with pretty much everything you said (putting aside my personal biases on characters)). When someone does that, you can really tell how passionate they feel about a topic and the love they put into it. Again, it's really admirable Sorry for my random appearance to rant (lovemail LMAO) on your vid here and analysis. I just found it so amazing. As someone who also looks at any media I'm passionate about like that, with danganronpa being no exception (and with a series that means sm to me personally), I find it really amazing and can't just pass the opportunity to not praise or not say smth about it Thank you so much for your content and analysis, I really hope you make more vids on not just danganronpa, but other series you love 💞💖 (also, i really love your voice LMAO it's very stern(?), but calming and humorous to listen to. a character can be the most well written most fleshed out character ever but if i hate every second i spend with them i cant stand them if i was in a killing game like hajime and i had kazuichi by my side i would be way more hopeful in succeeding hiyoko is the worst character

As a Gundham fan, your placement for him pleases me. In all seriousness though, there's a lot of takes I strongly agree with, as well as some I disagree with heavily. Glad to hear some fresh takes I've never heard before! Also, your placements for Shuichi and Kaede. You get it. I've kinda always felt like the odd one out for liking Shuichi WAY more than Kaede as a protagonist. Kaede always just felt too...plain for me.
