This looks one million times better than working on a non stop under staffed ward starting from 7 am finishing at 8 pm or later, without managing to go on your break and then coming back the next day! Are all GP Nurse Practitioners band 6? I cannot understand the actual process to be trained for this beautiful role. 😭

Don’t get me wrong, we are also rushed off our feet and understaffed 😭 but if you find the right GP, you’ll be well looked after 💙 It depends on the GP and what they pay you. Each one has their own funding to pay their staff. But most is a band 6 rate from what I can see 😁 But there are lots that will pay less! It’s about finding the good ones who know your worth 💙 x

Hi ... Claire ... In my knowledge ... Most of the jobs you have shown in this video has been done by a CSW or Healthcare assistant in the Hospital ... After they are trained for couple of days to obtain a package .. That includes .. IV cannula , Foleys catheter , EKG or ECG, Blood sugar monitoring , Taking Full sets of observations , Dressing changes for complicated wounds like pressure ulcers , diabetic foots , bladder scan , or except almost everything other than medication administration... I'm really proud of them .. most of them have educational backgrounds of IT , economic , engineering etc .... came as dependents sometimes ... ... etc ... correct me if i'm wrong ... You are so blessed to be there .... thanks for giving an idea of what's happening inside that GP rooms ... The healthcare assistants may not require a nursing study or license or medical background ... but they are trained under qualified team members of the educational wing of each hospital ...according to their corporate policies ..... I did not mentioned above story happens in which country / trust ..... you can guess if you want 🙃

Hie Claire thanks for your videos ,wanted to ask,I have come to the end of nurse training and I want to work as a Practice Nurse but I have seen they said 12 months training,my question is I'm being advised to work in a Ward for atleast a year to gain experience and knowledge instead of going straight into Practice Nurse, I know you went into it straight away and how's things with you, do you think I will benefit going to work in a Ward first
@ClaireCarmichael
@ClaireCarmichael 3 года назад
No, ignore these people who say you need 12 months experience. You don’t need it! Also GP is so varied and specialised you are better off going straight into it if that’s where your heart is set 💙 I went straight into and they trained me up :) xx

Hi since you went straight into GP Nursing, if you want to register with an agency are you able to? I’m interested in GP nursing and I also want to be registered with an agency to do extra shifts, if I don’t have ward experience soon after qualifying am I able to register with an agency.
@ClaireCarmichael

Hello! may I ask, there is a difference beetween a GP nurse and a Nurse practioner? or are they just differents names for the same rol? Thanks in advance :)
@ClaireCarmichael
@ClaireCarmichael 3 года назад
A nurse practitioner is like an advance nurse practitioner. So it’s a different role, you assess and diagnose and treat patients. They can prescribe too :) X

Hello Claire, I'm a student nurse (adult), I absolutely love your videos, and appreciate all your hard work. I aspire to become a GP nurse like yourself, in the future. However, I'm a bit lost and need some guidance on how to get into this profession after I finish my undergraduate degree. Please can you provide some guidance and maybe suggest some helpful websites relating this matter, I would be very grateful to you. Thank you very much.

Hey! Thank you so much :) Literally just apply,,, that’s all I did and my friends who are NQN too. NHS jobs, other job sites, you can apply directly to the GP you want to work at as well. And contact your local GP training hub as well (if you have one) if not - contact your local CCG’s 💙 There’s some good info on the QNI website too: gpnen.org.uk

My degree is a integrated masters nursing degree so 4yrs instead of 3 do you think it’s worth it as a nurse getting a masters degree or not? Also if I leave at the end of 3rd I will get a BSc in healthcare is this the same as a BSc nursing degree or different and it will also be without nmc registration could I just register myself orr…. Sorry I’m slightly confused
@ClaireCarmichael
@ClaireCarmichael 2 года назад
You have to be registered with the NMC to be a nurse. I’m not sure about a masters or how it helps to be honest? It’s all confuses me too haha. Might get you a lead nurse role maybe one day tho? I’ve seen a few of them ask for a masters :) which is a bonus if you want to be a lead nurse.

How do you get into gp nurse, every job I’ve seen they want 1 years experience, I’ve been qualified nearly 19 years in hospital. Sick of it working 13-14 hours with 15 minute break. We have 8-10 patients to care for so short sometimes your on your own. Just ridiculous. 😢❤
@ClaireCarmichael

Apply anyway! They won’t get many experienced GP Nurses applying. Just put all your transferable skills on the application form :) Also ring your local GP and ask them about any vacancies as well. Sometimes they don’t advertise online for jobs :)
