We don't save pesos, we save US dollars. According to the US Federal Reserve, most of the physicall dollar bills outside the US are in Argentina and Russia; lying under the people's mattresses. People don't take their dollars to banks, because they are afraid that the government would exchange them into pesos at the official rate; which already happended in 2001.

This video made me cry! What you mention about the dollar is so sad! It breaks my heart! Living in this country is hard. It has always been this way I have no hope whatsoever that things will ever change.

BA Celebra is a regular festival in Buenos Aires. BA is for Buenos Aires, and celebra (celebrate) is because some countries are chosen to show their culture, cuisine, dances, and music. In the History of Argentina we had millions of inmigrants from Europe, Asia, Africa and also the american continent. The most inmigrants came from Italy and the second country is Spain, but there are strong comunities of French, English, German, Polish, Greeks, Turkey, China and Korea. There are many exchange rates for the dollars. The official one is only used by importers, credit cards and exporters. Only few people can buy up to 200 US Dollars per month at this exhange rate with a special tax of 30%. There are special exchange rates when you buy tickets to travel outside Argentina. The government is preparing a special rate for foreign credit cards to make tourists use their cards but it's still not ready. The black market is the way to go. As "black" was to strong is called "blue" market. It's adviced to ask references to where to go because the people offering exchange in the street may no be very correct. You can know the blue rate in the argentine newspapers. You may use cronista.com/MercadosOnline/moneda.html?id=ARSB or www.ambito.com/contenidos/dolar.html to know the rate. But the best way is to find some friends in Argentina and ask them if they want to buy Euros or Dollars. You may find that they really want to exchange and usually the exchange rate is the mean between the selling and buying price, so both get benefits. The tourist gets some pesos added to what he would be payed in the "cuevas" (caves, informal exchange places) and the local pays a little less for each dollar. At the moment of this writing the official dollar is at 164,45/172,45 (you get at the bank $164,45 for each dollar and the same rate is used to pay your shopping with the credit card) while the blue is at 316/320. To see the effect of this: a half liter Coke cost ARS (Argentine Peso) 170. That is a little more than 1 US Dollar if you use the official rate. But at the blue rate the cost is 53 cents of US Dollar. So for the people to know what they see in the video: you have walked along Florida Street starting in Avenida de Mayo where the BA Celebra Festival was on, near Plaza de Mayo, up to the end of the street in Plaza San Martín. Along the way they show the Pacificio shopping center and the Centro Naval (a navy club) showing the bronze works in their main entrance doors. The beautiful tower that you can see was the present of the British community for the centenary of our independency from Spain. Around the Plaza San Martin park you may see beautiful buildings like the Plaza Hotel (now closed), the Paz Palace (former house of the Paz family, now the Circulo Militar, an army club, and the building of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Carrefour has more than 40 years in Argentina. Carrefour express is the name of small convinience supermarkets. They have also Carrefour Market, medium sized and big hipermarkets with parking lots. Then they jump to the parks near the Recoleta Cemetery, Nuuestra Señora del Pilar church, and Centro Cultural Recoleta. Recoleta is one of the Barrios (neigbouhood) in Buenos Aires, Palermo is further away from the downtown zone called "Microcentro" all around Plaza de Mayo up to the 9 de Julio Avenue where the Obelisco is placed. They finally arrived to the parks of Palermo where is the Parque Japonés, one of the biggest japanes parks outside Japan. The pass through the Ecoparte, former zoo of Buenos Aires, and then crossed to Sociedad Rural Argentina, where once a year, in the month of July the Exposición Rural has place. At thatn moment you can see all kind of animals bred in the Argentine ranches and farm. You can see cows for meat and for milk, horses, sheep, hens and chickens, rabbits, pigs and all the machines used for the agricultural productions. The rest of the year is used as convention center and for events like the one shown in the video.
