We just traveled thru China for a few weeks and started in Shanghai. You know, I grew up in the greater New York Metropolitan area for the first half of my life. I saw Manhattan as the center of the human world. After spending some time in Shanghai and other mega sized cities in China and Japan, NYC now seems like a large village by comparison! The Shanghai skyline makes all others seem like nothing (except Hong Kong, which comes close). And the food? Wonderful!

aditya menon I was saying that Shanghai has the most impressive skyline in the world. The other most impressive skylines are all in East Asia as well (I have not been to Dubai, but the photos make it look ugly and barren). Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo are also very impressive. New York City, near where I grew up, used to impress me, until I traveled to East Asia and saw 21th century cities.

I travelled to Shanghai a few weeks ago and i got to say that i love shanghai. The food was so cheap yet delicious. I love the street shops of shanghai too, its just so fun to shop on the streets. Chinese people are really not as bad as how the media describes them though.

USA subway is kinda old, new York city is over 100 years old, but if you go to Montreal, Canada, it's very clean and modern

No other city compares to the cultural diversity of NY! Dubai, has one of the most impressive sky lines, and many people will tell you, it lacks culture.

Born and raised in Shanghai, living in New York. I have to say, Shanghai's infrastructure is way better than New York's. While NY also has plenty of fun places, soho, uptown, flatiron. Lots of places remind me the French concession of Shanghai. Both cities has their unique histories and stories. But I love Shanghai more.

Shanghai is number 10 in most populated cities and it concludes of about 18 mil people Tokyo is most populated

laimonas lb Actually you are talking about official resident in Shanghai which is 18m, but the unofficial nr are almost just as many, you need to add them upp to get an accurate number of people living im shanghai, its very hard to get an official residence status in shanghai as it get you alot of social wellfare benifits.

+Himalayan Yeti The west coast wasn't even settled by industry until the mid 19th century. Even today, more than half of the US population lives east of the Mississippi River (east third of the US). L.A., San Francisco, and Seattle are fairly big, but most of the continent is still heavily forested and untouched. China on the other hand has had a stable civilization for thousands of years. Even still, your Tibet region is fairly undeveloped, and poor. But as transportation methods improve over the years, that will probably change.

I've been to many 1st world cities and I can boldly say that Shanghai is the most modern cities in the world. The infrastructure of China cities such as Shanghai and Shenzhen is just out of words, stunning in short.

+La Meza The Best will be "Made in China" - use this like search engine , each Town is China has his own "manufacturing" culture . For "fashion jewelry" the best will be Yiwu . China is fantastic for business ,safe and full of colors .

This video was taken 3 years ago. The "shanghai center" building was finished construction in 2015. More fancy things came out over the last 3 years. Shanghai is still keep making progress although most of the infrastructure is already better than most of the cities in the US. I really hope more and more people get to know my hometown. This is what modern China looks like.

Nice video ! Actually we stayed in the same hotel, the French Softel on Nanking East Road on the Walking Square. The morning buffet was good and the downstairs coffee shop offers a street view when one sips his coffee. The fast train from airport to downtown is quite something ! Good luck and visit again !

Great video! Just a minor correction, the place @4:00 with all the little shops is called Tianzifang. Xintiandi is another area, mostly with restaurants and bars, also a popular tourist attraction. :)

1999 .. bought a 2 bed 2 bath apt in central waterfront district here for $180k - now its $1.8 million !!!! Shanghai is the DREAM city - every dream is made here. The glitz / wealth here makes NYC / LA look like monks. Folks in 1999 Paul Oaknefold played at Rojam here - that place shut down but the BEST time of my life here in 1999/ 2000

Love that city, where I have lived for 3 months. Anyway, here's a recommendation from my side: If you want to have a great view over the skyline of pudong don't go to Oriental Pearl Tower and safe your money. Go to one of the top roof bars - at Shanghai World Financial Center for example - where you will have a better view (because it's higher) while enjoying a drink with the money you have saved from Pearl Tower.

+James William Hi, I'm glad you liked it :) I would say that it is hard. I would suggest you to maybe make some flashcards with the places you're planning to go to, or specific things you're looking for in both Chinese and your native language (just make sure the name of the place/the address is correct), so that it's easier for you to tell taxi drivers where to go, or ask for directions. Good luck!
