hiiii yall welcome back to another video!!! i am so excited to share what my typical work day looks like & give an inside perspective of the life of a pt technician. i am so thankful to have a fun & exciting jobs that allows me to interact with those in my community and also gain experience needed for PA school. i seriously recommend this job to anyone who is looking for a change of pace outside of a hospital setting. if you have any questions about this career or my pre-pa journey, please leave them below.

I am a PT tech as well and I love it! Long days… but very rewarding and I love working with patients. I don’t do any of the administrative work like you do (which I also love) I really like being one on one with the patients and learning from the PT’s. I’d recommend this occupation to anyone who enjoys helping people get better, it’s a lot of work at times and the days are long, I often work 10 hour shifts, but I wouldn’t trade my job for anything. ❤

I interned at a Drayer loved the experience- hated the 7-7 😭😭 or staying til 4 on Fridays

I loveeee being a pt tech but I feel so burnt out! We are averaging 350-400 patients a week and consist of 6 therapists! We only have 4 full time techs and 1 part time so it gets CRAZYY. 3 pts an hour sounds nice, with the amt of therapists we have we sometimes have 8-10 every half hour

Really helpful video! I'm currently shadowing and want to start working as a tech before applying to PT school. Any brief tips on things to mention when applying for the job? Things that would help that you know of?

While my interview process was pretty relaxed, I would probably just say to be yourself. Allow your passion for the profession and helping others to shine in your answers. If you’re doing this job for the right reasons it’ll be clear to them! No need to over complicate things like we tend to do. Your employer will be lucky to have such a motivated future PT!

Hey! I just started my job as a tech. I’m taking anatomy and physiology rn and a fitness class. I wanted to know if you’d have any recommendations about what type of terms and movements I will need to know as a tech since I’m kind of new in this field. Thank you

Hi! Those are great classes to take. I would say to just focus on grasping the general terms such as supination, pronation, flexion, extension, abduction, addiction. As a tech I am under the guidance of a PT so whenever I have questions about a movement I can usually just ask. We see a lot of patients with similar injuries so the best way for me was just to get more practice actually working with them. I will say I also had two knee surgeries so my experience and familiarity with those exercises also helped me a ton. Goodluck!

How many years in total did it take you for schooling to become a PT

Is a PT Tech the same as a PTA?

No it’s not! In order to become a PTA, you have to get your associates degree and sit the PTA exam. As a technician, there are no additional requirements besides usually having your GED and some training for your clinic.

I also applied from Indeed and heard back through there. If you aren’t hearing anything, my next suggestion would be to physically go into places that have PT techs or are hiring and you hand them a resume + speak directly to them! Goodluck!
