I'm planning to have a part-time cabin to live in. The summers are getting very busy out boondocking, and I prefer peace and quiet. So I'll stay at my cabin for the summers when it is buys, then travel more in the shoulder seasons.
@DeanJohnson67

ow! that looks like typing would be painful! Land prices/perceived prices are skyrocketing late 2020 to now ! In the past month I've had several places like Sothebys sending me snail mail telling me they have interested buyers for my land in CO. I've written back with a blanket response saying to make a fair offer and we'll see. Are you looking for 4 season or more seasonal land?
@TailsofWanderlust
@TailsofWanderlust 3 года назад
Hi Dean! I'm looking for either 4 season or seasonal. I've been looking at a few where I would need to go in and out via snowmobile, which I'm fine with. I would end up using it year round and would eventually put a cabin on it. I'm with you on prices - it is crazy!! I'm seeing people post land for 2x what they bought it for in 2019. But at this point it looks like some prices are starting to come down so I'm hopeful.

I live semi-rural in NW Montana with a fair number of bears that have walked right by my house. I have a sling water bottle thing that has bear spray and a few more walk about essentials. It is over my shoulder whenever I am outside: to my unattached garage, yard and prop chores, walks … even short walks. It is too easy to accidentally surprise a bear. And I want to be able to assist my dog if he gets in trouble. I have only ever discharged spray at 2 Dobermans and that was in the air in front of them … they were approaching me and my ill older dog on my property. But, spray is an easy weapon that does not do permanent damage to whatever you might “shoot”. I have the sling pack when walking my dog in rest areas or really anywhere traveling - easy insurance.

Hi Cass, my family loves your channel - great work and thanks for taking us along on your adventures! When out west in "the wild" we never go anywhere without bear spray after an incident that happened when our son was five years old. We pulled over in the middle of nowhere and my husband took him over to a tree to do his business maybe 15 yards from the car. He did not think to take the bear spray since it was just a quick pit stop so my son could water a tree - lol. Not 2 min later I hear my husband yelling. I go over to find my son on my husband's shoulders and a coyote in stalk mode. Once the coyote saw me approach he took one more look at my husband and son and then backed off and left. Happened so quickly. Now 12 years later we still tease our son about becoming a coyote appetizer 😆 and we always have bearspray on hand. Most likely the coyote was habituated and begging by the roadside (which is unfortunate) but we realized it could just as easily have been a bear or mountIn lion too. Safe travels to you, Jasper and Napoleon!

I feel your pain Cas. I'm a Sr. Program Mgr. for Kaiser Permanente IT Enterprise Infrastructure. I have 2 major project going on, where some days I have back-to-back meetings from 7am-5pm non stop. Right now I'm WFW which helps. But you're still updating notes, scheduling meetings, moderating discussions and working on reports. Like you I feel pretty pooped by then end of the day. I try and make a lunch ahead of time, have 2-liters of water, snacks and bio breaks. Fortunately I have a sit\stand desk, 2-large monitors, my laptop, and a comfortable office chair. Tomorrow is a holiday, but no rest for the weary keeping these project on schedule. At least I have time with minimal interruptions, so I can concentrate on my work. At least your view is better than mine, and the kids keep you entertained. Jasper's looks like a pretty silly dog, when he can be himself. I lover critters, and respect them all. From my knothole in Corporate America, a lot of workers who have been 100% remote due to Covid will be called back into the office over the next several months due to the widespread availability of vaccines and revised CDC guidelines. Many workplaces are going to try a hybrid schedule with a few days in the office and a few days from home, but I have a gut feeling that won’t last long either. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of petty “leadership” in these organizations that hate virtual work and want to see “butts in chairs” again, so it probably won’t be long until that hybrid schedule goes away as well. I think in about a year we’re going to see Craigslist and FB Marketplace flooded with “Covid toys” - motor homes, RV’s, toy haulers, Sprinter vans, slide ins, boats, overland trailers, ATVs, motorcycles, etc etc - bought with Trump/Biden bucks and tax returns during the pandemic that are no longer being used. Along with all the toys being dumped at rock bottom prices, I’m guessing the woods and boon docking sites will begin to quiet down and go back to normal next summer as well. However, guys like me who’ve tasted the 100% virtual work life are going to do what we can to keep this lifestyle, so I think companies willing to offer it are going to have a competitive advantage for top talent going forward vs. those who require in office work. As someone who’s been living the Digital Nomad life yourself for some time, I’d be curious to hear your take on these things, pros/cons of virtual work, and where you think things are going for the future of this kind of lifestyle. Might make for a good future video topic?
@TailsofWanderlust
@TailsofWanderlust 3 года назад
Thank you, that would be an interesting future topic. I'm definitely seeing that people are already being called back into the office or a hybrid position. I'm also hoping that the dispersed camping sites calm down, as not everyone is taking care of them, and the land is being misused. I'll keep this in mind for a future video, thank you!

@ Buck Cannon: Agree...but she also has to have the ability & will to USE it. Otherwise, it's best NOT to have/carry a firearm. Here in Colorado, we have 2 (dangerous!) animals that you can "meet" at any time out in the sticks (and in some residential neighborhoods, too!) -- Bears and mountain lions. But I'm ALWAYS carrying so that tool is there if ever needed (mainly for personal protection from human predators though, not so much animals). As for turkeys -- which ALSO can be aggressive here -- I'm not TOO worried about them...especially when Thanksgiving is approaching. ;-) BTW, I wouldn't even take a "SHORT" walk without my bear-spray: You can't predict what will NOT happen...and being wrong may be terminal (or worse). ;-) -- BR

It is definitely a sellers market right now - if you like the property you may want to offer asking price - most properties are selling for over asking price

Agree with that. At this point I'm a bit on hold to see what the market does over the next few months.

Hi Cass, really enjoy your videos. We are working thru all of them as time permits. We are considering both the 16x and the 20x. We were wondering what your view would be on the 20x given your use of the 16x in high mountains. Do you feel you are close to the 4runner’s capability in steeper roads? BTW, we have bought a 2021 4Runner Off-road with KDSS so it seems to be similar to your rig. Thanx!
@TailsofWanderlust
@TailsofWanderlust 3 года назад
Hi Ginger! Glad to hear the videos are helpful! Sorry with eye surgery I haven't been checking comments. I would not tow anything heavier than the 16 with the 4Runner. It has never overheated, but it does require pretty high RPMs to make it up the mountain passes. Also, the 20X is technically over specs when it comes to tongue weight.
