I just took my BCBA exam for the first time yesterday & passed- WOOHOO!! Starting my job as a BCBA soon! So nervous on conducting assessments, FBAs, FAs, etc. Would you guys mind making a video on that? Like walking through what to do when you get a new client? It would be amazing help because I’m such a visual learner lol! Thank you so much 💕
Did u get around making this video? just starting (by way of schooling), and I saw a fellow black woman so I clicked..How long did the process take?? @@allaboutaba1875
I literally love this video! You explained everything to a T, & you have a very sweet spirit. Came across this as I’m researching this exact topic. I’m a BA, thinking about becoming a BCBA.. I’ve worked in the school setting, home setting for agencies etc. praying that this is something God wants me to continue to do & take further. B.c nonetheless, I’d LOVE to pursue this as a career. Thanks for your help.💕
I'm currently a psych undergrad that is planning on applying to a master program in Aba next fall, I am so happy to start my journey to become a bcba, as a black woman I am so happy to see the diversity in the field and I cannot wait to be apart of that representation.
I love your video! I love meeting other BCBA’s of color. Especially those who share so many great resources! I love recoding snippets Of my day as a BCBA as well. It’s so important to share our stories.
Just came across your page today!! I am def not a morning person.. Yet I am a sub teach lol the kids will def wake you up. Your skin is flawless!! I do not wear makeup on a regular.. Mask acne has gotten me but it has been improving. I have been looking into BCBA recently. I am not sure if I want to be a full time teacher in a classroom all day. I am looking into a masters in either BCBA or special education and be a travelling sped teacher. I am in NYC and one state college just started the program this year. Its a plus the school does not require me to take the GRE and its more affordable than if I go to a private school. I did private for undergrad but grad do not want to take out all of those loans.
I am both a morning person and a night person. It depends on the time I wake up and on my mood that day. If I way up between 5 am and 7 am, I find I am energized. If I wake up later than 7 am, then I am a horrible morning person haha. I am also someone who does not wear makeup! I just don't like how long it takes to do it. I also typically do not spend a lot of time on my hair either, just straightening the bangs with a straightener and anything that may have gone wayward during sleep. I then brush my hair through, and either keep it down or put it up in a quick, but presentable, updo.
i love it that an awesome job: behavioral treatment... therapy something we all need. it different when you come face through treatment of job with people with actual mental illness and trying to change
Thanks for this! I follow you on IG too- I'm soaking up allll the information on my journey to becoming a BCBA, lol... it will be a long road ahead but vloggers like you definitely help keep me motivated.
Hi! I just hired as a behavior technician and I’m applying for grad school! My end goal is to become a BCBA. I was curious if you could make a video on how you began working for yourself?
RBT here. Wow the company I work for, the BCBA never works with a learner for a full session. They only do 1 hour supervisions. They end up not really knowing the learner because of the lack of time spent
I’m totally a morning person, but my husband is a night owl- I totally understand your struggle! Way to go getting up anyways and making time for you! 🤗
Thank you for sharing! I’m a total night owl. Mornings are not my thing lol. Question for you: What university did you go to for grad school and what are your thoughts about that program? I’d love to hear about what goes into choosing a program or what to look out for.
Love your day in the life!! It's so nice to see you get to work with clients 1:1 as a BCBA. I'm new to exploring all of the different options. What exactly is your position? I just started my ABA masters program and started accruing my hours this month (currently a mid tier level supervisor) I plan to sit for the BCBA exam in the near future! 😊
Thank you 🤗 I love working 1:1 it gives me the opportunity to implement my plans and keep my skills sharp when it comes to working with clients. My position is just a BCBA! I currently work on my own and with a company. Woohooo congrats on taking that step to becoming a BCBA, I’m sure you’ll do wonderful. You’ll be done accruing hours before you know it.
@@allaboutaba1875 That's awesome! I didn't even know working 1:1 with clients was an option for BCBA. I assumed if you worked for an organization, your primary role was to provide supervision/oversee staff and progress. Thank you for those kind words! That means a lot to me right now :)
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos for the past few days! You have honestly helped a lot girl! Im located in Florida too as i see from your video maybe one day we will cross paths!😊
Hi, I am a high functioning autistic high school student - I wondered if you could give me advice? I like the idea of working specifically with autistics, and think I could bring a good perspective into aba with my first hand experience. Do you think I would be accepted well? I am not socially awkward or anything - I am very extroverted.
Hi,I’m currently looking for an ABA online program, that might last 1 year-1.5.I’m in Florida. The ones I’m seeing are very expensive, any suggestions please?
Hi! I have a master's in educational leadership and counseling. I would like to complete a course sequence certificate program that will allow me to sit for the BCBA exam. I am wondering if you have any schools in mind that offer this route? The only school I am considering is National University. Do you have any other recommendations? Thank you so much for your time.
I currently attend George Mason for the certificate program ABA 5th edition. I just started back in January. It’s 1 class every 8 weeks. Hope this helps.
I’m literally in the same boat. I finish my Bachelors in health Science in 2 semesters and I was gonna do a Masters in Healthcare Admin but I’m doing research on ABA and it’s really interesting. I’ve always been drawn to psychology fields.
I’ve been an Rbt for 3 years and started my masters but then I got pregnant & Covid happened and I’m starting back again but I feel so discouraged and scared I won’t even pass the exam 😭
Don’t get down on yourself!! Sometimes life happens and that is okay! What matters is that you got back out there and are pushing through, you got this!!!!
I'm currently in my first semester of grad school to become a BCBA. I'm struggling with the thought of only doing the data collection/paperwork aspect. I really want to be hands-on but not an RBT. I love that I got to see you being hands-on as a BCBA. It gives me hope that hands-on work is out there. I'm very interested in working with adults maybe in inpatient programs. Have you or anyone else that has commented had experience with such age range/ work setting?
Yes there are definitely hands-on opportunities out there!! We have not had experience with an inpatient setting. However, we have friends that have worked with adults and that also prefer working with the older population! We recommend researching different inpatient programs and even asking if you can shadow someone working at one to give you more of an idea of what it is like :)
What was your first semester like? Are you working full time while going to school? Would love to hear your input on this! I start grad school part time this Fall! And will be working full time
@@brianaluanamarie I'm actually a stay at home mom (not by choice) military life and living overseas makes finding a job difficult plus the cost of childcare is the same as a paycheck. So I'm just doing school full time online which is 6 credits. I'm taking summer semester off to have a break but my first semester has gone well.
Hi, I stumbled across your vid looking into kinda-sorta changing my career path. But as I was looking into BCBA I am still confused as to what the requirement was and I was hoping you could provide some clarification. I am already a I/DD Qualified Professional, I have a B.S. human services degree and an MHA...I currently complete clinical work in the I/DD field and supervise and do all of the "requirements" they are asking for. Does this already mean I can become a BCBA other than taking the test? Or will I still need additional training? I looked and there wasn't really an answer.
Depending on the courses you have completed you may need additional ABA coursework as well as supervised experience in ABA before you can apply to take the exam. Further information can be found here in the handbook: www.bacb.com/bcba/
Hey there! There isn’t a way to skip over being a RBT because to get your BCaBA you need to accrue fieldwork experience hours and to accrue those experience hours you need to be a RBT for most insurance providers.
Hello:) I’m currently a psychology student that wants to become a Bcaba. My university says that you can’t get a credential in California. Is that true? How can I become one in California? I don’t want to spend years getting my degree for nothing 😩 lol
Hello, I saw your Jamaican flag when you were leaving. I am in grad school to become a BCBA. I have been uncertain because I am not sure if there are a lot of people of color in the field. Can you give me any thoughts on why you became a BCBA.
yesss! honestly, theres a huge lack of POC in this field. We need more so please join lol I became a BCBA to help others and I knew this would allow me to make a difference. I love ABA as well, how well it works and teaching others about it.
@@trembling3674 I’m still debating on which program to get into but I already applied for Masters in Public Health but the program for ABA I was looking into is called MEd Foundations in Behavior Science
@@trembling3674 Do you already have a bachelors? There are plenty of programs that have the qualifications to get you ready for the board test instead of taking all of them credit hrs going to two different programs.
Hi! Quick question, does my supervision hours usually have to be with the same employer in working as an RBT? I live in one state and plan to move to another state in the next 6-9 months and I’m not sure how that will affect my supervision hours. Thank you!
it depends! so currently I work on my own and for a company. I only get paid 1 hour indirect for the company I work for. Then for my own clients, technically I do not get paid indirect since insurance does not pay for that but at the same time I don't pay myself the rate a company would so it makes up for the time of indirect. Hope that makes sense :)
