Paco and the Giant Chile Plant by Keith Polette is a super fun version of Jack and the Bean Stalk. I read it every year, and my kids love it! Check that one out if you're looking to mix it up.
I would like to see any tips or set up, how to virtual teach, as I just accepted a long term 1st grade substitute teaching position, and have no experience on using zoom or Google classroom, and I start next week, and will be subbing 4/5th grade tomorrow, Friday and Monday before going into 1st grade...
Not sure if you are planning to use it already, but After the Fall would be an AWESOME book to incorporate into your current unit! Glad that you had a good, but busy day! Switching grade levels, virtual/remote teaching, and adjusting to motherhood at the same time... you're a ROCK STAR!
Hi! Nice video :) I remember maybe a year or so ago you were getting your Master's degree I think. Are you still getting you Master's degree? And how do you balance being a teacher and a mom? Do you grade and plan lessons at school or at home? Have a wonderful day. God Bless!
Hi, Did your district scale back requirements that must be met in terms of students? I can not see how all the standards that I remember could possibly be met with the distance learning platform. What about teacher evaluations, did they cancel those for the year? It would seem impossible to rate someone's teaching this way. Have you had any problem with students working ahead on the assignments you send home but planned to do together? I could see a parent allowing a child to do everything all at once. Love The True Story books. (7 yr retired first grade teacher) Keep smiling, you are doing great!
I’m so impressed you’re planned so far in advanced. I’m barely going a week at a time 😅 Glad to see you’re feeling better about DL- thanks for sharing your stories and ideas! ❤️ from the Bay!
Nice Video clip! Forgive me for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you heard about - Millawdon Future Ticket Trick (probably on Google)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for teaching children to read minus the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate finally got excellent results with it.
Now that I've experienced two days of hybrid (teaching both in-person and online synchronously and asynchronously), I will say that it's nice y'all have time in the day to do some planning. I envy that a lot! We lost a planning period and I feel like there will be some time before I leave the building at a reasonable hour.

Hi! I loved this video...it is hard to get everything organized to give out to students, but you made it look easy! I was curious to know what you included in your Mystery Science packet. We give out packets to our students every 2 weeks and I NEVER thought of compiling info from MS for them... Would you be willing to give a bit more detail on what you included in that pack? My school has a subscription to MS. Thanks!
Maybe in the empty blank black baskets you could put diversity mentor texts!!!! Always great to have books on diversity and that represent our learners!!
I loved seeing distance teaching experience! I am doing my student teaching right now and am trying to think of things my relatives can get me for christmas and graduation for my future classroom. What are some things you suggest asking for?
YAAY! Good Morning, Shelley! I got my Kallax shelf as my stage, and?? I even assembled this whole thing by myself for the first time ever from Ikea!!! 😍 Aaaahhhh! But it took like a week for my Kallax bench to come in! ❤️Aaron
My old colleague used The True Story of the Three Little Pigs with his reading group of struggling 4th grade (year 5) readers, and he found it a great book to teach from.
Hello~Thanks for sharing! I'm ordering that light and such a great idea about turning the bin :-) I get so many interruptions daily as a Resource Room teacher with everyone needing something done NOW. As a middle school teacher, per my district, I'm not allowed to create packets and everything has to be digital. So, if it's not already in Google format, I have to recreate every Word Sort (I have bought some on TpT), worksheet, etc. It's a complete nightmare and takes me 5 times as long to plan. I do enjoy working with the kiddos during my Flexible Learning time online! Also, the district has said that kids don't HAVE to turn on their cameras...such a wrong message! I've found the kids who don't keep their video on, are the ones who send me messages after class that they are confused. Yeah, because they walk away or are busy gaming or on RU-vid (yep, parents have told me they catch their kids doing this).
I have a question. How is it possible that every student can be on a laptop/tablet and on time for the zoom-meeting? In my school most of the kids live with a ot of siblings, they don't all have internet or a laptop/tablet or anything. Online-teaching is very difficult to do for us. Luckily this schoolyear we can all come to school.
At the district I work for, the majority of students have a district-issued Chromebook. We had regular multiple large CB checkout events at various schools where families can reserve CBs for their students and then pick them up. The eventual goal is to go 1:1 with student Chromebooks. We just got T-Mobile hotspots for families who don't have access to traditional internet service. For the families who live too far from a cell signal, they have to come every week or so to their kid's schools to pickup work packets.
