We are back in Toronto and Jon is back working at his home office. Consulting is one of those professions that's really hard to explain to others; people are normally left more confused or bored after an explanation. In this video, Jon shows you what a typical day looks like for him as a healthcare consultant at the office.

Hi, thank you so much, through your video, I learned about the new career path. Do you consult a doctor during the process of opening a medical office?
@withtheshums
@withtheshums Год назад
Yes, some smaller consulting firms may support doctors / dentists to open up an office. However, this would be quite rare due to cost.

I really enjoyed this video as I’m considering working in healthcare consulting as well. I’m finishing bachelor’s in healthcare admin and separating from the military soon. I worked in emergency medicine. I was wondering what your opinion would be on getting into the industry at age 27 and with a family? Would there be a lot of travel involved?
@withtheshums
@withtheshums Год назад
that's actually quite a common age to join consulting, especially coming from industry. most of the time 'experienced' hires are older than their counterparts, but not by much. you won't be an exception if that's what you're worried about! in terms of travel, currently there is not much (due to COVID). it is still unclear if travel will return - COVID has really pushed the industry to think of client site visits differently.

@@withtheshums thanks for the insight! Are you familiar with any popular firms around the Southern California area? Trying to figure out a good way to start searching.

I am currently 6 years in as a nurse, 2 of those in management. Currently finished an MBA. If I was to start in consulting would I have to start from the bottom? Or would my previous professional years count for something?

What company are you working for ?

How many hours do you work a week. I have heard that consultant can work up to 60 hours depending on the project
@withtheshums
@withtheshums Год назад
It's true! Very project and deadline dependent. What I would say is that it all balances out - some weeks you'd hit that 60 hour mark (week leading up to a deliverable being due), while others might be closer to 40 hours.

@@withtheshums is consulting still very travel heavy, I heard from some people that they are still remote.
@withtheshums
@withtheshums Год назад
@@edk487 It definitely used to be before the pandemic. Expectation was to either go to the client site or go to the office. But now that the precedent (and realization) that things can be done virtually, I think it'd shifting the industry away from travelling as often. Certainly in healthcare consulting, hospitals / providers don't want unnecessary staff on site, so I'd expect it to be remote for me for the next foreseeable future.

Im a doctor applying to Healthcare associate in McKinsey and currently taking the online assessment, Solve. Do u think the content of the assessment would go towards healthcare assessment like"diseases management" mini game considering the position im applying to?
@withtheshums
@withtheshums Год назад
Unlikely - the gamification of the interview process is really designed to test your logic and thinking abilities. They may be a healthcare designed one, but I wouldn't count on it!
