One thing I don’t like about Adult Nursing is that on the wards as a student, they treat you like a HCA, they expect you to do personal care and obs all day. Whilst I think gaining that knowledge and experience is useful, you NEED to let them know you are a student NURSE. You’re training to be a nurse, not a HCA, and yes, there is a difference. I have friends that have been refused to shadow nurses matrons or even come along for drug rounds. If you’re just cleaning up poop all day and bathing/feeding patients, you’re not gonna learn other important things, like giving meds, scientific knowledge of nursing and A&P. That’s important as a nurse. To understand when the body is ill or in bad health, you must first understand what the body looks like in good health. I just find sometimes they use Adult Nursing students as an extra HCA and that’s not your job. We’re supernumerary. Just something to bare in mind. The worst thing is going into placement ready to learn and coming out feeling like you haven’t learned much. Fortunately, I don’t experience this so much as I’m doing Mental Health Nursing, but it’s something to be wary of. Xx

Millie Thomas Haines it’s 50/50 with uni and placements. The placement hours depends on your placement. My wards have been 7am until 7.30pm and I did 3 shifts every week weekends I scoured and bank holidays. But my community placement in the GP was Monday - Friday and all different hours. One day was 9-7 and the rest were short days :) I didn’t live in halls no, it’s way too expensive and you can find much cheaper accommodation else where ☺️ but I have friends who do live in halls and cope well x
I'm considering doing nursing after dropping out of a Biomedical science at university. Not sure whether to do an apprenticeship or a degree. Is one 'better' than the other from an employees point of view?
Hello please can you help me. I have a degree in an English subject but sadly teaching isnt for me before i did the course something in the back of my mine told me to pick nursing but I ignored now i am desperate for information as i cant seem to find what i am looking for i hope you can help me. Where do I begin as a degree holder? Are there courses? I heard about this program called nurse first but i dunno ☹️
No Bo Are you living in the uk? Will you want to study nursing in the UK? :) if so, you can look at different universities that you want to apply to study nursing. Then you can apply via UCAS website www.ucas.com/students Look for nursing degree to become a nurse. It’s a 3 year course, 50% theory at university and then 50% practice (you will have placements / work out in hospitals and community etc settings). You can also look at nursing apprenticeship roles as well. Have a google for those or go into NHS jobs website www.jobs.nhs.uk and search for nursing apprenticeship or nursing associate job where they will employ and train you :) Hope that helps a bit

Is 4th year worth doing? I am cconsidering finishing at 3rd year rather than proceeding to 4th year(I found out 4th year consist of mostly academic researches)
