Pathology has the best lifestyle of all specialities. No annoying patients or interactions. Rarely any calls. Can leave office anytime you want. You’re just alone in a room doing your job and making 300k/year

Yeah, that is the average, but my mother is in private pathology working to become partner next year , last year she was making 350k, now 650k and then next year when she is fully partner she will be making 800k!!!!! And my dad who is a vascular surgeon makes almost half of that

I always thought of going into a specialty with a lot of patient interaction. But after working as a medical assistant, I realized how draining it can become. I'm an introvert and constantly need to recharge my social battery. I stumbled across pathology and realized this is what I want to do. Your always learning and getting to diagnose different pathogens and tissues. I don't mind working in an office style. I'd rather have a good work-life balance while making a difference to patient lives. I don't strive for recognition, I'd rather be a doctor's doctor and work behind the scenes.

Not to mention as a pathologist you must have the ability to finish a 4-year medical school and another 4-year residency with more studying to do with cell, molecular and microbiology. It's a tough job and the title is considered "the doctor of all the other doctors"!

My mother is a pathologist working in private. She is incredibly smart, but not gifted smart. She failed two of the exams in a row, and never gave up and the third time she took it she passed!!!! This shows for me cause I am not naturally gifted as my brother is and I have to work for it. No matter if you are smart or not. You need to find a work ethic and STUDY even if you think your smart. Medical school will slap you in the face.

I’m 18 and a sophomore in college. I always wanted to be a vet, but after working at a vet clinic as a vet assistant, I’m starting to be interesting in pathology. Reason being is that I love doing lab tests, taking samples, and gathering data from the samples I take. I realized that vet’s don’t do much of that, but rather deal with the owners and diagnose animals. I don’t mind working with people, but I have a very reserved and serious personality, which I worry will bother the clients. I also wouldn’t mind getting a little extra cash for doing something I’m more passionate about. Anyways, no matter what I choose, thank you for the informative video :)

Hey Jeff, what is one of the weirdest things you've found in a dead person's stomach? Have you ever found notes or messages that somebody swallowed right before their death? I think that would be one unusual place for someone to leave a suicide note.

Im an MLS and we have about 3 pathologists that oversee our hospital lab. The hospital is a 600-700 bed hospital as well. They usually have final review and say on slides/cells that require a pathologist to review it or slides we arent sure of, i assist them with procedures like a bone marrow aspiration, other than that i see them in their office reviewing things with their microscope. Ive only been here a few months, this is just what ive seen.

Hospitals don’t hire people just because the color of their skin.. they hire based on your qualifications for the job. Nobody wants a doctor that doesn’t know what they’re doing but happens to be a minority.. I’d rather have a competent white doctor then a incompetent black doctor or I’d rather have a competent black doctor then a incompetent white doctor.. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE!
