I get a lot of questions about what I do as a rare book librarian, and this was something I was wondering myself when starting out. I hope it helps! Please keep in mind that every rare book library is VERY different and rare book librarians are sometimes very specialized.

Thank you, Andrea, for this utterly exquisite and so clear presentation. I am a newcomer to this world, have a private 'special collection' and since I joined the UK Private Libraries Association I have been becoming ever more aware of the importance of protecting my collection and, if possible, assuring its survival after my death (I am well into my eighties already). It's survival is important as it is a very rare collection, almost certainly the only one in the country (UK) and I am reading round' the topic of book preservation, learning as much as I can while I'm still 'compos mentis'. I have only just discovered your channel and will be working my way through it to learn as much as I can from you. Thank you, yet again.

Wow, you are doing such wonderful work! I wish my university library offered more opportunities for students to work with them. They don't have a rare books collection (or if they do, they don't tell anyone about it), but it would be nice if they had offered workshops or seminars. Maybe they will in the future. Maybe wherever I end up going to grad school will have a more involved library.

Hopefully more libraries will create more bridges between staff and students (I hope so at least). Make sure you seek them out! either look it up at the grad school or look for local museums and heritage buildings or galleries (they are bound to have SOME rare items!)

enjoying this video very much so far! had to pause to let you know about a very interesting library near where I live called Lanier Theological Library. It's tucked away on some private property and only open for use by theological students. anyway, check it out, it's neat. thanks :)
