@ashleighlarkin6260
@ashleighlarkin6260 4 года назад
Evan Isabell Vids if you’re not on passage you normally try and hide in a marina however if you are at sea, you take down all your sails and put up something called a storm sail. They’re bright orange, very thick and super tiny and give you just enough forward momentum to stay out the waves without going fast. It’s scary but you train for it

@Erikjoelalexander
@Erikjoelalexander 4 года назад
Why wouldn't they? My dad was the most sociable/likeable person in our community (homeschooled). Two of my cousins (homeschooled) grew up in religious isolation, one is a selftaught highly paid programmer (no degrees or papers from University), travels the world and got a family. The other one is an extremley creative adventurer. These had wholesome families where integrity been passed on to them. What I have gotten out of it is that they surley get more quality and less distraction from freinds. And after working with students between 6-16 years old for 6 years I can clearly tell that ADHD would be less problematic if families chose to homeschool rather than sending them to a chaotic class with atleast 6 other kids with the same issue but a variation of diffrent backgrounds and family settings that further complicates the issue. Loving parents is the ONLY thing necessary for successful kids.

People who keep saying "they need friends" "how can they socialize" "if i was with my family all this time id kill them" etc etc. I hope someday you'll realize and learn that family is everything, its good to have friends, its good to socialize, and im sure they do, but when friends go and when the problems come, only family stays. This makes them learn how to create peaceful and patient ways to communicate even when things are stressful between members of family. I respect this, honestly, it'll teach them a lot of things.

It's because there's a lot of aspects to life that they are cut off from. I'm not saying that's bad necessarily. There are trade offs. And there's a lot of stuff they don't participate in. Also, homeschooling generally doesn't make for kids who are super competitive academically. Unless your parents can teach your AP physics and such, which is rare.

Has anyone ever fallen overboard? Do you see many wildlife like sharks and whales? What was that big metal thing sticking up when you were reeling in the fish? Sorry for all the questions. New subscriber and fascinated by your lives on the water 😀

samantha Dufty the metal thing is kinda like a ladder for someone that goes into the water-so then they can get out

Hey guys, I know you've spoken a number of times about "Buddy Boating" and saw how you made the wise decision to close the gap with Wiz during the potential "Pirate" incident. I've been checking your location and progress almost daily on the PredictWind site just for fun and noted your several dramatic/unusual course changes mid crossing. We theorized a number of possibilities as to why you were traveling almost due East instead of West - several of my personal favorites as follows: 1). Mutiny on the Zatara 2). Keith ran out of Dr. Pepper 3). the Pink Flamingo that I previously strongly recommended you mount as a figurehead to intimidate any would be Pirates had come loose and had been blown overboard - and these strange course changes were actually a Pink Flamingo rescue/recovery mission 4). Keith fell asleep while on watch, eventually dropping his foot on the windlass "Down" button - inadvertently deploying 250' of anchor rode after which the anchor was swallowed by Moby Dick and you were being dragged around the ocean blue completely against your will. 5). You guys were so bored that the whole crew had a Rock, Paper, Scissors competition which Renee won and as the winner she decided it would be super cool to sail a big "Z" for Zatara in the middle of the Pacific Ocean just because she could. I assume now that the reason for the inexplicable and puzzling "Z" in your course was none of our many interesting theories but instead an effort to close the gap with Wiz. Although there isn't a map legend it seemed like you had to travel quite a distance the wrong way before resuming your proper course - which leads me to my actual question: While Buddy Boating, how close do you generally stay to each other during a passage such as this? I'm guessing there are speed differences between your two boats - so do you slow down/speed up to stay within a certain proximity of each other at all times? Also curious, what is the maximum VHF range between you two? Is radio range the limiting distance factor or otherwise how do you determine how close to stay to each other? Having asked my real question I now present Captain Keith of the Zatara a true seamanship challenge for all the world to see: I challenge you to sail the name "Zatara" in large enough letters in CURSIVE that we can see them on your Predictwind Course. That would be pretty daggone cool to see and would serve as irrefutable proof of seamanship. I'm even willing to not make crossing the "T" in Zatara mandatory. That would be purely optional but would be worth quite a few extra bad a$$ captain points. You seem like an awfully competitive guy Keith - are you really just gonna be able to let that challenge go unanswered to the world? Oh my goodness, I've just called you out........ :)> P.S. - We'll still love you guys even if you're just not that good... I'll be watching. :)

This is like the perfect family to me, except the fact that you can’t see friends very often. My dream is to travel around the world and what better way to travel then by boat. You seem like very good parents! Keep up the good work ❤️

I just started subscribing a few days ago and I've loved watching a number of your episodes. I follow a number of off-grid folks, skoolies and world travelers but your family is the first sailing fam I've watched. You are all awesome. I particularly like that you include the entire family. May peace and joy fill your sails!

10:49 Galley down keeps food warm while cooking! I'm seriously considering getting a catamaran and the debate between galley up or down didn't matter before, but this detail is awesome. I hate sitting down to cold food right after I'm done cooking. A great detail! Thanks Renee! Xoxo

As a screwball I watch all your videos out of order, it makes it feel more of watching home videos vs a series and this is one of my favourite episodes as we get to see the more normal side of family dysfunction and how wonderful these little quirks are. I love that your kids get to listen to ALL music genres and ALL styles, kudos to you two for knowing what parenting and teaching what life is about to your kids
