I graduated class of 1968, (all women) so this was really fun for me to watch. In my day, we had to wear skirts to dinner, and you ate whatever they gave you. I read and took notes on all of the reading, worked my ass off and went to Yale every weekend. Grading: C if you did the work and it was decent, B for an exceptional performance, A if you presented new insights that had never been considered before. In some departments, you could write and answer your own exam. I was a Nightowl (singing group) and that was the source of my great joy and best friendships. I loved the campus, and the fact that it was a women's college helped me to develop amazing confidence and boldness in expressing my ideas and opinions, ( which was not rewarded in the real world) I have great memories of Vassar, and believe that it was an exceptional education. But ladies, everything looks so much better for you now!
Hi Jill, I know you wrote this a while ago, but I was wondering what your experience with Vassar Alumni has been? Are they really enthusiastic, and try to engage with the college and help current students?
"They have so much reading, you can't do it." gosh, so relatable, please help. This video is so wonderful. I love when Vassar students' videos pop up in my recommended.
@@bogeypatel8982 I have no idea what you’re talking about, please do us all a favour and keep your negativity to yourself. Literally no one asked you, so next time before you comment make sure to take into account that no one wants to hear you 🤗 do better next time beta
Saw some hate comments🙄, just ignore them. Love your style and introduction to Vassar! Would you say writing and reading are still a lot if I will be doing environmental science and art in Vassar?
Jackie Namala The social scenes isn’t great but they do give a lot of financial aid and are willing to support students. For example they paid for 90% of my study abroad expenses.
Carmen George Weddings I think a lot of students talk down about Poughkeepsie because they are from rich communities. Poughkeepsie is mostly working class people and it has a high black population. I think a lot of Vassar students aren’t use to being in that type of community. I generally think that the town isn’t as bad as people hype it up to be. With that being said, it does not have the amenities of a big city like San Francisco or New York .
I got offered to join the summer transfer program here! Now Im looking into this college more, and I was wondering because they don't have heop, does financial aid help cover the costs of this school?? Are there Many scholarships given
Amber, no I'm not considering going to Vassar. A cousin of mine went there, Class of '73. Another cousin, sister of Vassar '73, went to Wellesley, Class of '68. I WAS TOO POOR TO GO TO EITHER OF THOSE SCHOOLS, or maybe I should say my father (Yale, '41) was too poor to send me there. WHERE one goes to college has a lot to do with financial resources, and other perquisites which weighed --against-- me. If you are in an over-represented group, as - I - am (white WASP female/Westchester resident), it considerably reduces your attractiveness to college admissions people. I ALREADY KNOW what going to Vassar would be like, but thanks anyway. P.S. - I am 73 years old, will be 74 in April; college, and law school, are WAY BEHIND ME, and thank the Lord for that! (Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers -- have a nice rest of your day!) : - )
Hey, not trying to be rude but just asking, your surname is Patel and thats an Indian surname. How are you a white. You can be an Indian or Indian American but white?? I am not racist ofcourse but a proud Indian.
