All my classmates from the best american boarding school’s were so artsy and cool! They made films and art and plays. They got me interested in non profits and religions and the classics! It shattered my perceptions of boarding school
when I was little my dad made jokes saying “If your don’t better your behavior your going to Exeter”. He had no idea Exeter was a real school and was just making a joke about rich kid schools
Atharve Vashishta same I am applying for sophomore year ! I just started application. When are you asking for teacher recommendations I’m not sure when to
Hey! As a matter of fact, I'm applying as a sophomore too. I applied last year and got waitlisted so I guess I have some experience. If I were you, I would notify my teachers about my applications as soon as possible, say once school's been on for 3-4 days and the teachers are settled in. (no one likes to be overwhelmed and certainly not teachers. They already have a lot on their plate.) After you tell them, ask them if they can fill out recommendation forms and at what time of the year they would be comfortable to fill the surveys out and if possible, discuss with them the forms and the process. That would give them an insight and they probably would be able to fill the forms out better. I really hope this helped. Don't be afraid to hit me up if you need any more help or need to exchange notes or something!
Atharve Vashishta hey atharve , thank u so much for ur tips and replying to me really thanks. Unfortunately I can not go to Exeter or even apply actually . It’s kind of a long story but I can’t ask one of my certain teachers for a recommendation because if I didn’t get into Exeter it would just destroy my relationship with him and he’s actually one of my sports coach and the one that wanted me to come to the high school...hopefully that makes sense. I wish I could apply at least ! I’m such a well rounded person and Exeter is really a great place for me. I wish u all the luck into getting there! Study very hard and retake the ssat or isee whichever u r taking! I would love to keep in contact with u on ur journey and if u get into Exeter , a part of me can live it through ur experience haha ! If u have Instagram that would be great .
Understandable. It's really awesome and respectable that you value that relationship over going to your dream boarding school. It's really a golden relationship and I'm sure you won't regret the decision. You can follow me on instagram @atharve8504
Atharve Vashishta thanks I really do value it a lot, but the sad part is I was willing to gamble my chances of getting in or staying at my same school and destroying multiple relationships . They would be shocked and say -after all we did for u? It’s complicated but I can’t risk it .
I was accepted into Exeter as an 8th grader. Nobody in my family was expecting it at all. However, after some deliberation, I decided not to go. To this day, the decision sometimes bites me, and I think about the life I could have led living on the Exeter campus compared to the normal public school life that I lead currently. My future, my passion, my creativity... all of it could have developed for better or for worse. I still regret it, but unfortunately, there's nothing really I can do to remedy my regret
Don't feel too bad, my cousin goes to phillips exeter and she has suffered so much there. The students don't have any time for breaks and they are constantly studying and staying up late finishing homework assignments. She has some of the best grades but her mental health it atrocious. She has depression, anxiety and an eating disorder. There are far better boarding schools than this one.
You don't have to be an elite to live yourlife. I know some British students turn down Oxbridge offers and go to a less prestigious universities because they want to me more "normal", which might be a good thing at the end.
I really want to get accepted. My grades are good, I score 99th percentile on my standardized tests, and I am taking high school classes in English and Math for 8th grade this fall. Furthermore, my teachers are usually very happy with my work and they tell me that I’m an excellent student. However, I’m really worried that I’ll do terrible on the SSAT - I have a hard time doing online tests. I really need help on text-based questions and I’m quite terrible at learning new vocabulary words as well. But I am mostly upset about the fact that even if I get accepted, I may not be able to go due to financial issues and also because my dad would have to take care of both my little brother and (newborn)sister alone-while my mom is at work. I tend to overly stress on top of that and I have had ulcers for the last 2 years(I’m 13) due to it. If only life didn’t have to be so stressful! 😭
RM Productions It does! Thank you for your encouragement! I’ve studied hard the last month, and I got 37/40 questions on my comprehension reading practice test. I have also learned an additional 200 words! - though I can’t say that I am completely comfortable recalling them. I hope that if I keep this up I will be able to do well on the actual SSAT.
I would have loved to go to boarding school as a kid. I think my oldest would have thrived in boarding school. I regret not sending her. My youngest two won't go unless they ask, since we travel all over the world, moving from country to country every three years.
I am (hopefully) going to attend next year or the year after. I'm from Boston, lived in DC for seven years, and moved to Jordan last year. I am really excited, and I really hope I get in. It's either this or Georgetown Prep.
please can you give me some tips? I am applying it for next year, and I don't really know what will be the best study plan.... please if you could help.....That would mean my life...
@@moonpridelicht Aliright you too! hope you get into Exeter and whichever other scholl you're also applying to! the deadline for 2022 fall is due rly soon, I'm also working on my other applications, hipe we become classmatesXDDD
If you get it with financial aid and your family makes less than 75k a year than your tuition will be fully covered!! if you have any more questions you can Snapchat me on valeriekimberly
I want to get in to the school crazily. Fell in love with it since last year. And I am looking forward to apply at the very end of this year. Wish me luck guys.
In 2023, my school is going under massive renovation and our education at that school will likely plumitt, so it's the only reason I'm allowed to apply in 2023. I'm excited and studying a whole hell of a lot.
@Dodo M I’m a current student at Exeter, and the thing about this is that exonians tend to not dwell on the fact that many famous and successful individuals have attended Exeter before.
@@GlossaME That is like being the younger brother of a really successful older brother. You would be proud but also feel like you aren't as good or loved
My brother had straight A's his whole seventh grade year and eighth grade year, was valedictorian, scored a perfect 900 on our state test, and he got in. He also did some community work and was a dedicated altar server. My cousin also got in with straight A's his seventh and eighth grade year. He said you don't need straight A's, although it would help but just show them you have a strong drive, did your research about the school, and what you would contribute to the campus.
It's not really concerning "straight A's". To get in, you need to get a high score on the admission test (SSAT), and there is many personal essays that would need to be written, and the school also expects you to have some extracurricular activity or community service. In my opinion, getting straight A's is just a basic, borderline requirement. If you don't have straight A's in a regular school environment, that just shows that boarding school may be a bit challenging for you. But of course, no matter what grades you have, if you try your best, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to get in. I'm applying for the 2021 year, so best of luck to me and you.
@@chloecha9675 Oh, but at my current school, we get graded on a 0-4 scale, but they say it "can't match" with the percentage scale and that "it's all evidence". My twelfth grade brother says that they report GPA incorrectly because of this scale. But I have a ton of extracurriculars, and I do good work. The teachers say it's impossible to get straight fours. I honestly don't know how a school would look at something like that.
@@liamdonahue6301 omg same!! My school grades on a 1-4 scale tho, but it’s literally IMPOSSIBLE to get straight 4’s because in order to get a 4, you need to do something *spectacular* . It’s not simply getting an 100 on a test (sadly).
Has anybody gone here and can tell me if the school is really as good as it looks. I'm trying to find the right school and I need somebody to help me out :> thx-
I have not gone here but do know people who have and they all said it’s great. But it’s just a matter of getting accepted personaly I prefer Andover but that me, both are great schools.
I want to go to that school pa please but it's very expensive I think I can get financial aid for that but iam in India I think I could go to that Philips academy but my parents is telling no pa 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I will come that school definitely I will try
Heyyy if you're applying for financial aid than make sure you do while entering your application. Something I found out is that if you get in with financial aid and your family makes less than 75k a year then your tuition will be fully cover including your expenses like books or if you want to study abroad. My snapchat is valeriekimberly and I’m currently in 8th grade, if you have any questions let me know 😊😊
Fabulous Library. Sad to say, but there were no students using the library. Except for the two students sitting with their lap-tops...Why read when you can just google everything? Sad, Sad, Sad.
Always looked forward to the day I could let one of my babies go off to a boarding school (as they have both since I can remember talked excitedly and happily of future schooling and high school and 6th-7th grade on mostly they finally decided to attend public until high school, then if able, boarding school. That is what they want in their life, and I am capable of sending them, therefore I will) so the plan I had and they liked (7th and 8th grader right now both skipped a grade to get to their 'great perhaps' they loved that book and want that experience, or they will come back and choose public school either way I will push them to be their best and happiest) was to apply to exeter, or andover, but I cant abide political bias, or forced indoctrinations in my children's education, they are more liberal than I am and even they see how bad of an idea being taught one side of an idea is, I know we will have to settle for some, but not going to let it be exeter for sure as of noon today and especially after watching these videos, you can see from 00:20 based on the reaction, and what is being said by the speaker, 'trump is bad everyone laugh because trump is bad' I very much dislike trump policies, the man is boorish, did some good things, and being honest upset me less than Joe Biden has in only under 200 days! (yes I do want my vote back, wasnt for trump or biden, but I would be voting trump sadly enough if it was today), im more of a center aligned person lean left and right on different issues (which is why I own multiple businesses and have no employees who seem to hate me, and pay very well, even have a fund in my ownership stakes for any employee who comes upon a hard time, or needs help, have put over 3 million from profit over the last 2 years into that fund during this pandemic, and will not be having a check, or money gained in any way personally for 2020, but did not have a single unemployed worker, or single person worrying if they would make it out the other end of this, one family owned business pays for 2 exeter students RIGHT NOW, and I do plan to speak with my 3 employees about the possible bias and if they think it exists, but as parent to parent, not owner/boss to employee) so apparently, you arent allowed to have different thoughts, or you are but you aren't allowed to voice them, looking into Andover, they seem better and talking to the Dean of students earlier made me feel a BIT better, not happy at all, but comparatively, Andover will let students have a view, albeit tell them its wrong, but they CAN have it, if my children come home and believe in the easter bunny again because of some hard logical reasoning, and thought into the subject, and feel strongly, I will let them believe that, and one day may meet the easter bunny... Exeter's stance is students cannot have a view that is not what they have, and seemingly shove it down the students throat until they agree, or are beaten into silence, you will be treated horribly, UNLESS the unspoken rule, you pretend, and haver no open and explainable to your peers opinions, then you dont have to agree, but you have to be very careful. That is Unbelievable from a top private school in the country, let alone a place that calls itself 'of learning' (after speaking will some recent grad's and the Dean of Students I have asked my children to see if they can find any other school, although Andover is still on the table, they agree with my decision, and will not be giving their 10's of thousands of dollars to exeter) TLDR; Exeter is socialist propoganda, with a couple teachers who dont go with that grain but cant stop it, nor do they have the will to attempt to fix the issue, so sorry to any students who might read this, or well meaning administraters/teachers, but you need work, and specifically any students of Phillips Exeter, take some time to think even you just read this and thought to yourself, okay karen go away... Do you know what you believe and if so, why? Can you explain it to yourself, if not, there is a problem, if you can, then continue, and be great! Good luck to all, stay safe, and be happy even if what you have to do is not a very happy thing.
Chris Ohrugo looks like a lot of them do some type of activity/ sport or club that keeps them active so I guess they just happen to appear nice looking also? Also I’m pretty sure the way you present yourself also depends whether you get in or not I don’t think it’s much of physical appearance since you can’t really change that
Rich people arent going to be cought eating at some fast food place. These people can afford to eat well and healthy. However, I can guarantee 70% of the students are really just skinny-fat, not "fit".
