Another lovely video and some great shots of Casper hovering! So beautiful. I may have mentioned it before, but I sponsor a Kestrel at the Falconry Centre, Hagley in the West Midlands. They too have a wonderful display of birds and it's a great way to support conservation in the long term.
Thank you so much Paul! Really glad you enjoyed the video. It's really important to support good quality raptor centres as they do a lot for birds of prey and conservation.
I trained birds of prey long before telemetry.. When bells were your only means to indicate where your birds were.. I can't say I enjoy seeing birds wearing it.. In those days you to had to be as close as you could be to being sure your birds wouldn't clear off.. Today I feel telemetry is a safety net which allows falconers to be less competent and still retrieve their birds.. I feel there's a bigger sense of satisfaction and achievement when you bird is utterly and completely free and returns to you without any electronic equipment attached to them..
What a stunning bird! Great to see the care and respect the West of England Falconry give to their birds and the help they give to help to protect the species. Love the music too!
Hacking has to be done carefully with lots of factors to take into consideration - starting off with a strict flying routine and then adding free time before a few minutes at a time - if the hawk does not know their routine you may find problems. If you would like to chat through the process, do pop into the centre and I would be happy to talk you through what we do. Naomi
I’m in the north west so it is quite a journey for me but if I’m ever down there I will 100% call in an also I have another question. How do I get my kestrel to stop baiting? I’ve tried the spray bottle trick and not working for this bird I am stumped as it has worked for my previous 2 birds.
@@jameswych8030 Sounds like you would need to review your routine and set up all together to solve the problem. A spray bottle won't do much if a hawk wants to be somewhere else. Again, happy to chat it through if you get the chance to pop in.
