@@karolinakamami41 The Colonialists never Looted Luo ancestral lands that's why they retained huge chunks of family lands to date. You'll never find a landless luo they all have family lands in Nyanza. Usually with a Polygamous set up.

They didn't bcoz Luos bargained with them hence allowing education to spread like wild fire in Luo land by early 1900s... Luos were getting employed as clerks,messengers etc by the British ...Luos were afraid... the British told them if they refuse what was done in Nandi highlands shall be done unto. them.

In fact Luos fought & Conquered very many tribes before occupying Present day Nyanza, were it not for the British luo land could have stretched beyond Kericho. What Saved Luos from losing their land to the British was their uniquely organized land ownership policies that are communal to date. You'd hear Luos say Joseme,Josakwa...etc. The British couldn't claim any Land who's ownership is declared & occupied that's why they never Looted Luo,Baganda & Luhya lands. The Nandis,Kikuyus & Maasais never had Land ownership systems dictated by tribal elders,Luos even knew where their boundaries were. The rest just found open land & settled. When the Colonialists asked them Who owns this lands they said they were given by Ngai. 😂 They never refered the Brits to chiefs & communal elders like Luos & the Baganda. The Brits then assumed it's free real estate and moved in by force. Luos & Luhyas turned out to be the smartest.Their land ownership policies are very unique even today. It's impossible to grab Luo land. Even Kenyatta & Moi failed.

This is the backyard of Nyamira Girls' High School, our school Nyang'oma used to endear itself to be the brother school but they leaned more towards Maranda High😂😂. 15 mins drive from Nyang'oma aka Santiago.

What does Nyang’oma mean? A common name for girls in Bunyoro and Toro Kingdom in Western Uganda that was ruled by Luos and the Royal house is made of Luo descendants
