For CNY reunion dinners, I have seen arrangements where one family has the reunion dinner one week earlier so that both parties can be at both dinners.

Pat and Jon, you guys are EXTREMELY BLESSED. 🙌🏻🙌🏻 just want to say i agree alot with what you guys talked about as married couples, you are now a Family. in Genesis 2:24 it says ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, and they shall become one flesh. not to say that you stop being filial but it means you prioritise your spouse (apart from God). Anyways.. May your marriage continue to flourish with God (always) placed in the centre. 🙌🏻

You guys are super entertaining. Some of what you say I can resonate with. As a married couple of 6 years I can relate with some of the things u guys have been sharing. We decided to stop with one son, as we believe we couldn't handle more than 1, it's really tiring since we decided not to get a helper. We r also nt practicing traditional cny, we been travelling every year during cny. Partly because my side of the family n my wife couldn't see eye to eye. Having a supportive extended family is definitely important to the couple.

One way around reunion dinners is both partner must agree with the arrangement. For me, we followed the Chinese tradition of going back to the husband's side for reunion dinner. But lately, my parents are getting much older, so we decided to alternate. This year reunion dinner with his parents, next year with mine. So more fair la. But the key is, both partner must agree with whatever arrangement to make it work.

I guess for the reunion dinner part, its more of having to foster the "celebration" with both sides, even if its a short while on either side of the family, but to have to have that occasion of being there. But respecting decision for both sides and keep going you two are amazing

I used to complain about husband to my sisters and sometimes parents. now, my family has kinda bad impression of my husband… and I now have difficulty to reverse it. 🥲 I also face the same issue as you on CNY Eve. I have the same thought as John, separate dinner… 🤣. But my husband on the other hand is exactly like Pat thinking.. 😂 Looking forward to your next video on wedding!!

I think John should offer to go her family reunion and not split up reunions. They can alternate each year...

Hmm.. I think when it comes to CNY, need to communicate and plan with both side of the parents. Like Pat, I think it is best to go together as a couple, since married means ONE UNIT. Each goes to each side of the family just doesn't seems too ONE UNIT. Like my family, I know they are flexible so will always prioritize the arrangement from my in laws side and my family either do the reunion one day before or after. Having 2 reunions on the same day just don't work too well for the stomach. Trust me, we tried. Believe both sides of the parents want to see BOTH of you and not just one. Thus, marriage is an art.

I'm lucky that my inlaws and my own family integrate very well so we actually usually have reunion all together!

Totally agree with pat though i uds where is jon's thought process coming from. A couple should stay as a couple everywhere u go. When u r seperated in events, smth must have happened. It might be unpleasant experience that ppl see it that u dont like to chill w her fam tsk not going. Or it is showing that ur wife's side relative r of a lower pirority. Mayb due to work u cant go so be it. But if its cuz both fam have got smth planned on the same day; a day has 12hrs. Def it can be worked with at least 1hr each side. On deciding to not have a kid because it is such a chore i don't think it is the right thought process though. Think it this way, when puberty hits, were u prepared? Did you overcome it bef preparing for it? Short ans is u can be a gd parents for e.g in your own way. Your niece n nephew will never be the same as ur own kid. When they r naugty, their parents gets the final say. We as uncle/aunty have to leave it to their parents to teach them. Even if the mtd your siblings is using is not aligned with what u think its healthy parenting. Yes i will try to help my aunts n uncles. But my parents pirority first. Yes as a parent u sacrify alot. But i believe its worth it. Just for your consideration! It isn't a need but still a good to have since u guys r alr doing so well bringing 3 kids out on your own! (;

For reunion dinners, you can either compromise to do alternate years or every staggering the days. For my family every few years we will travel overseas to visit my wife's side of the family for CNY (which happens to be this year ). Just take turns to be "fair" I guess.
