On the night of October 12th, 2016 Auston Matthews exploded into the NHL with a performance that ignited the hockey world on fire and gave fans a hint of what to expect from Toronto's young superstar.
The sportsmanship of Anderson to ask an opponent to sign his stick, a rookie who just rocked him, says so much about his character. I love that there's this mutual respect.
@@christophermanning6146his team won, sure, but I don't think it had anything to do with Anderson. He let a rookie playing his first game put 4 past him. I'd argue his team's offense won the game. There are plenty of games won where a goalie played poorly. You can celebrate those but it's still embarrassing to be outdone by a kid who's playing top level hockey for the first time. Either way, it's still good sportsmanship for everyone aboard
J27 no one is saying assists are not important. But don't pretend for a second you'd rather have an assist at the end of a game vs a goal. Don't be dumb bud.
@@Retzerr41 I get where your coming from assists are as good as goals, but if you only had people good at assisting there would be no goals but yes assists are very important in the sport of hockey
@@Koksfrillan Ok Ovi had a better rookie season so? Matthews just had the best goal scoring season out of both their entire careers so far with 60 in 73 and 51 in a 50 game span which even Ovi has never done. Time will tell for all-time but as of now, his prime is arguably better. If Matthews gets 60+ next season then there'll be no debate for prime vs prime.
@@Koksfrillan you can’t be the greatest goal scorer only counting a rookie season. So you’re a little all over the place with your argument. Things are looking good for Matthews
I said Matthew's is so good hes gettin 2 in his debut I was telling everyone. He got the 2nd and I was blown away that he actually did, then he got the hat trick and I said yo this is the best debut ever. Then he got the 4th and I was just outta this world at that point.. got to be one of the best if not the best hockey moment ever. Being from toronto to and being a huge lead fan since I was 5... just incredible
Love how he stays chilled after scoring 4th goal. Shows a lot about his personality full of respect and gratitude right at the beginning of his journey. Look at him now - True Leader. Die-hard Pittsburgh fan by the way😁
Will never forget this game witnessing this game took night off to see this memorable game omg would of never thought this would happened, I was happy to see 3 but 4 in a debut omg I was in tears will never forget that moment thank you Auston you are the franchise saviour
I cried like a baby with tears of relief that the latest ordeal of being a Leaf fan was ending after another lost decade. It still brings tears to my eyes watching the highlights of that game
Matthew’s is a class act. Stars are my favorite team but The Maple Leafs have always been a close 2nd and Matthew’s might be my favorite player right now. I hope he brings Toronto a cup soon.
The way the current season is going, this will forever by the pinnacle of Matthew's career with Toronto. I can't wait til he comes to America to play REAL hockey.
The second goal was just about as pretty as a duelist piece could be. Stripped the puck, walked it past two defendors, then just snapped it into the net and everyone is just like "wtf just happened?" If a 10 year veteran did that it would be a highlight real show.
66 ottawa fans disliked this video....all jokes aside! How could anyone dislike this video. Not many moments in life do we have were regardless of your favorite team you can genuinely be happy for a player team etc! 66 people need to get a life!
I’m a Sens fan and I liked the video. I think all of us Sens fans can agree that was one of the best first games, if not the best first game in NHL history. At least we still won the game lol
Auston Matthews is a great player and you couldn't ask for a more memorable first time. The first time I watched a hockey game I couldn't believe it was real and then I got hooked because most NHL players and hockey in general are Canadians and always have been. I was into Canada before I even knew what hockey was. My big push was their incredible music scene. Then there's all the really impressive cities like Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal. It's a gem of a country and Auston's a gem of a player.
*Perfect example how you can almost do anything if you are not from broken home* 😊 *But if you are from broken home like me and u have make your dream come true: WELL DONE! I can say it's not easy...* I have alway been jeallous for people whos both parents are still together. And u have lived ur childhood in a safe and comfortable home. *Amazing performance!*
Almost duplicated this tonight. Hat trick. Auston is the best player in the nhl imo. This clip showed all the guys who are the best. They’re tied. Each apples his talents , experience and intelligence differently. And it’s damn fun to watch.
I never watched that game.. a month earlier I had been diagnosed with breast cancer and I was in shock, missed basically all his first season.. I was spending my evenings on cancer forums, freaking out, researching, and freaking myself out worse! It was an awful time. The only way I can see his first goals is on replays like this now.
