Definitely not! I am calling that out now! It helps for sure, but you can have nearly the same results without leveling up weapons and other gear. They may die in a few less bullets from a weapon at 19+ expertise compared to a weapon at 1? Imo, it is more beneficial for pvp than it is for pve. That is where expertise truly shines.

Yes it does 100% make or break your build go into the dark zone run the same build as someone a level 24 set of full blue armor cores are 2.1 million armor and a non optimized build has 1.9 so yep it makes a world of difference

Another fantastic video... I find regardless of the effectiveness of the the Expertise system overall, it is SUCH a grind to not only grow your overall expertise level but also the individual levels of your favorite items, I now just focus on the system as a secondary benefit to getting extra/junk loot. As Tuxedo suggested, without Expertise there is little to no value to the junk loot you pick up in any game mode so hey, might as well let it build my expertise level. Point being, I don't focus on it too much and let the growth happen organically.

Dude, there´s crits in the game.... If you are testing your build IN THE GAME, cuz you are using it IN THE GAME... So unless you are gonna take crits out of the game, your comment has no point at all.

Expertise on weapons is a good way to "rebalance" weapons that previously had lower DMG than their more popular counterparts. By adding 15+ lvls to a standard weapon with your preferred attributes, you can create combinations that hit just as hard as the "top DPS" weapons, but also have better range, accuracy, rate of fire, or other more helpful attributes than simply min/max bullet dmg.

Expertise is a means of improving team strength & ttk. Since ttk reduces armor requirements, for similar tasks you only really need expertise on weapons . Ubisoft increases difficulty to encourage more expertise. But in PvP, max expertise is topdog, ceteris paribus. If you're not into pvp, what is the point? Well, you can expect more difficult tasks forthcoming. Priority is actually skills -- not all of them, but they are your base to improve countdown drops and support teamwork. If you dont have a healer in countdown, then expertise on guns first is required. Skills eat filaments by the truckload.

I’ve been at Expertise 5 for a hot minute because I just don’t enjoy a lot of other builds I usually rotate between 3 depending on my mood but I’ve recently decided to commit to one dps build that is so far my best build

Previously, i deconstructed all unusable items in my inventory. Now, i "ration" the garbage i deconstruct and the ones that i donate to level up proficiency. It works well for me, snd gives extra motivation to farm and grind! Excellent video tux!

Great explanation if Expertise makes an impact. Some also don't understand SHD levels also give Armor over 1000 levels which allow not having to put on a blue core or two on a build. Then they complain when cut/paste doesn't work for them.

When using Determined/HH it for sure can make a huge difference wether you can go up an armor core and/or go PFE mods or not and still one shot HS an elite to start off HH… Was juuust below HSing an elite with my Nemesis and upgraded it from Exp 16 to 18 and it was enough 🤩😄

Not missing much man. I'm level 22 expertise and I've found that weapon damage and a handful of skills are worth upgrading (Striker drone, assault turret) Armor increase is a total waste.

Expertise"works" better for weapons in heavy blue builds vs heavy reds just due to additive damage getting diminished, but it's not a make it or break it sort of thing. Minor exceptions exist like hitting a 1 tap threshold for a headhunter build where the WD from expertise gets you over the hump. In this case it can "make" a build for the given context (eg solo heroic health levels).

@@Vigilance779 I'm aware of what was shown in the video. The damage isn't 'the same', but the differences in practice are negligible (thus it doesn't 'make' the build... which was the point and question answered). Strikers is doing the work here, simply put. If you run longer tests, the differences becomes apparent (you end up with the spreadsheet DPS values as the time and samples go to infinity). But we don't play on spreadsheets, and in our normal gameplay contexts, the differences are hard to spot. Keep that in mind as you spend precious exotic components on expertise levels or burn yourself out trying to max your absolute expertise through proficiency.

The big thing is really used Expertise with is my drone and turret, for my skill build. Both are Level-21. I couldn't justify the marginal cost of going higher. Even 21 was insane (Exotic Components)

The biggest problem I find with the expertise system is the NPC’s wield a lot of damage being boosted at every update. They just shred my armor too quickly so, I’ve had to change my tactics to use whatever cover is available along with using a shield to help survive and build the stacks say with Heartbreaker or or Striker builds. Once I have the stacks, I can be more aggressive. Otherwise, I’m dead in seconds. And I’m at expertise 13.

@@toddsmith5301 I run 1.3M on Heartbreaker and just 913K on Striker so I have the most dmg possible. I may tweak the Striker with PFE mods for Incursion though. Both are still squishy with the dmg NPC’s deal lol.

The extra 1% damage you get is based on the BASE damage of that weapon every time !! all the bonuses on the gear and watch etc..is not included on that 1%

Expertise is nothing without knowing how to play, u can have max expertise but don't know how to play, it's a mix of both things in my opinion. In the end it comes down to how and what u play with how many ppl

It does matter, but minimally. For example, level 10 Police M4 vs level 20. Besides the obvious damage output, you can feel the gun is more accurate. Now same gun lv 20 vs 24 - at 24 I’m able to pick off the weak points of the NPCs from 35+ meters away effortlessly. Another example - assault turret. At level 20 it is more durable and survivable than 10. But at 24, it has great range. How I gauge this was Roosevelt Legendary. The end stage before you jump the wall. At lv 20 my assault turret couldn’t reach the mounted gunner on the boat. But at 24, it has not problem hitting him So is it worth it to get to level 24? Absolutely. But is it a game breaker if you don’t - nope. I was still wreaking Legendary without expertise system

Hey Tux...your cerebral take on this game is exactly why i joined! All nails on the head on the last 3 vids u made (armor,expertise and my favorite, the SHD video!) IMO, player's skill takes front and center! So your build should match skill level and content you want to run. I've never been a good player...tried HF run and gun for lady death and that just didn't work as well as i hoped it would. I'm running a skill build now in my solo runs and I'm way more successful with it. Heroic with 4 directives for xp farming!

I have a cookie cutter Oro DZ build at 1.5mil armor. Should have higher damage than a 2.0 mil armor of the same build -right? Face tanked this dude with the same cookie-cutter build in the DZ and he absolutely melted me with his Oro at 24 and gear at 24 as well. Expertise plays a major role in the DZ and it just sucks for new players.

I can tell the difference in PvP for sure. When someone downs me, it is because they have a couple levels more levels of expertise than I do or they're maxed out. Makes a difference in PvP the most in my eyes

As long as your builds are basically sound the way you play your missions, etc is much more important than your expertise level. Expertise is giving you something to aim for but really for me at least doesn't make much difference to my survival or damage.

I'm at 19 (SHD almost 4600), did it 80% organically. Ran NY a few times to get SHD (Buy/deconstruct method). What I can't understand is seeing guys at 24 that are a lower SHD that with full builds at 24 (not jealous, just wondering how?). It takes ~106 exotic resources to upgrade 1 item to full... so 6 pieces, 3 weapons, Specialization, Skills (1,272 total needed, for 1 build)... well. how are guys that are SHD between 3K and 6K there? HOW? Best way I know to farm Exotics countdown runs and buy an exotic with the $$ you get on completion, do the weekly project, (with every character you have), do the weekily legendary, and 30 floors of the summit... ... if you have a life outside of game you can top at so that's 3-5 + coundown maybe 10-20/week if you grind... PVP could fare better, but I usually fare worst as I'm not big/good at PVP. They have to had cheated right? I've been playing this game for years, what have I been missing? I'm not going to cheat, so am i doing this right?

i'm shd lvl 2600 and have 6 months of playtime in the game and at expertice lvl 22, no glitches no cheats just plain ol grinding and plenty WONY runs i only have my elmo and sheild up to 22 though not the gear but the gear sit at lvl 16 ish

Good observation. But since RNG affects crit it could swing either way on the number of shots when they’re that close. For TTk they are equal.

Your survivability comes from this blue cores on striker and is very hard to get! Optimization has more impact on gameplay. That is my opinion anyway :)

Im level 24 expertise level, i have two striker builds exactly the same but one has expertise level 22 max and the other one none. I dont do pvp only pve and i dont see any difference running both.

To prove what you are trying to prove you need to take it to the dark zone and have your friend that plays dis like you shoot you with the same build and the same gun see which 1 does first the one with the hard stacks will win if you do not have stacks build up it will nearby be a tie

I like the Division a lot but they make it to where you have to grind so long for everything. Grind for hours just to get gear sets and grinding hours to just find an exotic then they add something else that seems cool but, there like guess what it's gonna take hours everyday just to enjoy it a little.

I suggest you get a team, and play it so only you get the kills, let the NPCs revive, then at the end check the stats to see if the kills exceed 220. I would be surprised if it exceeded 220 - programmers shouldn't allow rekills in the stats.

It makes a huge difference, a massive unfair challenge and change to pvp. An annoying unreasonable grind. I have great builds but only expertise level 10 and I get destroyed on head to heads. And I have good aim. I did a pvp exact build match with a friend of mine with a 4 blue 2 red companion, unbreakable meta build and just grenade unloaded with a Famas a few times. our ping was matched and he had between 25/30 of his health left. We did headshot and it was closer at 10%. But this has broken PvP for anyone wanting to enjoy a higher competition of the game. This game could easily be a game changer in the industry, if they fixed everything I’d pay for this game again just for the PvP to be fun and fair. Just balance the multiplicatives and power to the armor in PvP, make it to where no matter the core from red to blue they are even. Then balance the yellows to reds on a time to kill and skill haste ratio Nerf bleed and burn if the duration is high the slowness is enough to get you killed, and if the damage over time is enough your gonna die regardless it’s just annoying The TTK is almost perfect in game for mid core range builds

None of the yt builds perform the same if u dont match the person who made the build vid. At the end of the day it performs for them. Im nowhere near 1mil plus dmg per hit. But the players that are have the shd watch maxed out and high expertise

Donate your Garbage, in Expertise menu, to increase proficiency for weapons and gear you don’t use (often). The more “Proficient” items you have, the higher you can upgrade the Expertise on your Proficient gear.

I have never cared about expertice levels. I am over 5400 SHD level and i am 9 expertice level. I have over 1000 exotic components waiting when i get over my goal 10!! 😂

I love your "scientific" approach here, it's great to finally see a content creator doing these side by sides and definitively answering things long wondered. I kinda had a feeling expertise wasn't anywhere near as critical as many have thought for so long.

Glad you enjoy it! Expertise is a nice to have, but in the end I'd rather just have more variety in talents and such. I'd grind for more stash space though!

735000 Dmg per crit compared to 640000 dmg per crit. 100k more dmg per shot seems pretty substantial to me. A target with 7,350,000 health would take 10 bullets to kill instead of 12. A target with 73,500,000 health would take 100 bullets to kill instead of 115 bullets to kill. This is assuming each hit is a crit at full stacks as displayed in the video. To remove rng entirely a build not utilizing stacking dmg and only comparing dmg numbers is a more fair assessment.

I love your perspective on this. But in context it ends up not being substantial. On paper there is no context. Missed shots, reloads, enemy suppressing you, the reality is actual time to kill difference is milliseconds and null, where we find no change in performance overall for most players. Damage and kills and survivability are usually the same. When I had no expertise and my friend had 89k watch and 20 expertise, we would tie on damage and kills on legendary. Shouldn’t be the case, but good the game brings enough variables so damage isn’t the only answer to success.

@@TuxedoBandidoUnfortunately in endgame PVE content all red dps builds are pretty much the norm. I feel like builds that are all blues (mostly found in PvP) benefit the most from the extra damage. Essentially getting an extra red, especially now that it’s 25% soon to be even higher. Currently if you min max everything you get essentially one extra blue and one and a half extra reds. I think most who even care about squeezing out extra damage, specifically in your comment section mention this mainly is noticeable in PVP.

Here's a thought. Was your entire build without expertise ? Including skills ? Including specialization ? How about the rest of the team? So, what I'm getting at is sometimes it seems the power of the NPCs scales to the power of the team - that power is conditional on a total of all players power. Now, we know that ttk is very dependent on the killing power of bullets, so if you use a 50 bullet mag and normally kill with the 36th bullet, a 20% decrease in power results in a kill with the 45th bullet. Need a reload ? Oroborus good, vector bad. If teammate isn't using oro, your kill odds are always better with shorter reload times. And a lower scale of NPCs should actually result in no change to this behavior even if your teammates have not reduced their expertise like you have. For apples to apples, the team must all use identical weapons.

I wouldn’t say skills benefit more, you do. For survival, damage (TTk) does more for you than base armor does (gear). And since expertise is attached to a unique item, you get more use out of leveled weapons and skills, since gear pieces can be swapped more often. It’s so expensive to upgrade things, simply put you have to make choices and prioritize

It's not like it's hard to get your expertise up. I'm just a casual player who works 60 hours a week, and I had mine maxed out in just over a month. People need to stop complaining about it, and just grind it. All I did was countdown. Put on whatever gear I want to max out first, and also put my targeted loot on that gear as well,a nd donate all of it. Went a lot quicker than I thought.

GAH, NOOOO... that clip of spamming printer filament on just proficiency levels!!! ...SAVE YOUR PRINTER FILAMENT TO ADD ACTUAL EXPERTISE LEVELS TO YOUR SKILLS FIRST!!! (That is, until they're all above level 10. Once they're above 10, you don't need it anymore for that skill.) Printer filament is largest/biggest mat requirement for adding Expertise Levels to skills, and it takes A LOT! Throwing expertise levels on things like your decoy, striker drone, shields, turret, stinger hive, seeker mines, a few others, is easily the best bang for your buck in terms of spending mats on expertise levels. This basically takes each skill up a tier level for each 15ish expertise levels. And the best part is you only have to do it once for each skill and it's shared across all your builds, toons, account wide.

Usually I'm right on par with what Tux recommends. I just feel this one caveat needs to be mentioned here, as I've done the same thing with my mats and blew through a ton of printer filament before I knew how much was needed for turning up each skill. ...and I will go a step to the left and say that if you need proficiency levels, that going to each vendor each week and looking for items you aren't proficient in (ie no little star on their description) and buying those up to donate straight to your bench will net you about a third of a level for each item you turn in (don't break them first, just mark it as trash and then use the donate trash option at the bench). After that, just be smart about what items your spend mats on proficiency levels. If you already have the item and are using it, then let the XP system do the work for you, it'll come up pretty quick on its own. But if it's an item that's locked behind the raid, or one you simply don't think you'll ever use (looking at you Shocker Punch holster), then yah, spend down your protective fabric, receiver components, etc to get that thing up to ten. If you come across named items while you're grinding the game, always hang onto the ones you aren't proficient in and turn them in as trash rather than break them (or for weapons, throw them in your secondary slot and piggyback the XP you get from your main gun).

Meanwhile in the pvp side of the game is exactly the opposite, if you don’t have that extra 144% armor along with an elmos along with 24% weapon damage on it you are getting your cheeks spread wide open 0.5 seconds every time you flag

You said you got there organically but your shade level is 12,000? Expertise only helps in pvp, like you can have 3 blues cores and have 1.5 armor with all gear at 17%.

There was a glitch like 3 months ago that would give your unlimited exp on camp White oak after you glitched the door. Like 99% got banned for it, I guess your in that 1%.
