A Deep Dive into the Heart of Tibetan Buddhism and Interreligious Learning
Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche is a renowned modern Tibetan lama. His teachers and mentors were among the most eminent twentieth century figures of Tibetan Buddhism. Under their tutelage, he completed the monastic curriculum in Buddhist philosophy and was given the most extensive and in-depth training in the meditative and ritual practices of Tibetan Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna Buddhism. Rinpoche has been entrusted with positions of retreat master, guiding teacher and abbot in several important Tibetan monasteries in India. In 2002, because of his deep meditation training, leading neuroscientists requested Rinpoche to take part in pioneering research on effects of meditation on the brain. Over the past twenty years, Rinpoche has emerged as one of the leading Tibetan meditation masters of his generation, and one of the most effective teachers of Buddhist concepts and meditation practices to modern audiences.
Two of Boston College’s theologians, Brian Robinette and John Makransky, engage Mingyur Rinpoche in a dialogue to delve deeply into the heart of Tibetan Buddhist understanding and practice, explore how such teachings may meet Western minds and modern problems, and attend to aspects of Christian understanding and practice that are newly highlighted in such a rich interreligious conversation.
Co-sponsored by the School of Theology and Ministry, Theology Department, and Institute of Liberal Arts.

Brian Robinette is Associate Professor of Theology at Boston College. He teaches and researches in the areas of philosophy, theology, and spirituality. While working within a Catholic theological context, Brian is committed to interfaith learning and has learned deeply from Buddhist contemplative traditions.
John Makransky is Associate Professor of Buddhism and Comparative Theology at Boston College, Senior Advisor for Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche’s Centre of Buddhist Studies in Nepal, and former president of the Society of Buddhist-Christian studies. John's scholarly writing focuses on connections between devotion, compassion, and wisdom in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism, on adapting Buddhist practices to meet contemporary minds, and on theoretical issues in interfaith learning.

He is better teacher then Osho, sadhguru, j krishnamurti. He is better then all of them and he never claims he is enlightened. Unlike all the others. He is truly a mind meditation master. A true gift to humanity.

Osho and Sadhguru are frauds, Krishnamurti was too harsh and bleak. Mingyur seems to be a living example of what happens in the best case scenario Buddhist practise. Also, stay far away from Soka Gakkai, it is a cult.

Yea he’s humble and a sense of humor … As we have seen with the Dalai Lama and other who claim to be enlightened or to be a special person above everyone else, they always fall short and the ego brings them down

Dalai Lama doesnt claim himself to be enlightened. I think buddhist practitioners are forbidden to , because englishtenment is just a " skillful term" . None of the teachers are supposed to say that.

I don’t think Jiddu Krishnamurti deserves to be lumped in with the others based on what he advocated for at the end. Though I’m basing this off what I’ve interpreted.

@@JaySoul711 Dalai Lama is forever my root guru and millions in Asia. Maybe you’ve never heard him but he mentions himself as simple Buddhist monk.

Rinpoche is a well known teachers and practitioners in the Tibetan tradition Bhuddhism. For a more detailed discussion, Boston College of Theology should also invited other well known teachers and practitioners like, #Geshedorjeedamdul (venerable Geshe Dorjee Damdul , #Geshethuptenpalsang (Venerable Geshe Thupten Palsang (he needs translation) #geshelhakdor (venerable Geshe Lhakdor)

Amazing. Go and listen to anyone else. I have listened to all so called enlightened people. Osho Sadhguru Watts Krishnamurti Eckhart So many more None can break it down like master mingyur ripoonche. NONE. Yet this is basic level. His other deeper talks are unbelievable

Yes you can tell he’s so humble and funny. I think because he’s been to death and back. Alcoholics and addicts like us really appreciate life more and have less ego .. because coming back from death and getting a 2nd chance at life is wonderful experience and we just want to share that with people. We don’t want the accolades or titles or money or fame🙃

I know that Watts, (if you mean Alan Watts), never claimed to be enlightened. He preferred to use the term entertainer and had a very tongue in cheek delivery with regard to his own divinity, although he is rightly credited as being one of the main contemporary people for making Buddhist and Hindu Eastern traditions more accessible in the West. I don't know whether the others claim to be enlightened, but Echkart (Tolle?), has been a similar facilitator of 'the basics', although perhaps without giving his sources quite as much credit as Watts did. I think with any teaching, the key is to find a teacher who you resonant with personally and gives you a new perspective on the material which Rinpoche definitely did for me.

Is listening to the recorded audio of mantras as beneficial as verbally chanting myself, not knowing the language?
@CoolTigers
@CoolTigers 2 месяца назад
Chanting itself or listening to chanting itself doesn’t help its like a tool to bring awareness, like listening chanting can be as sound meditation, it can bring you back to your awareness which is main aim of any kinds of meditation
