A new addition to the collection, a Homelite 900D chainsaw we recently got running by:
Replacing Fuel Line
Ultrasonically Clean Carb
Rebuild carb with new diaphragms
Replace Points and Condenser with solid state chip
Swapping starter parts
What a cool, heavy duty old saw from the late '50s, early 60s era.

Very well made video for those that need guiding with the mechanism on those rare saws. Allthough the starter is on several of those similar Homelites...is my impression. More easy version with the starter cup where those claws engage. Pretty intricate that ball version. I have done one too on my saw... Not sure what saw it is...but I find out. It is green and pink...I guess arround 90Cc- 100 CC mine as well. Could not start it yet...as it has beeing standing long time and my guess is that dry bearings in crank...gives a little resistance...and thats all it take for me to not be able to fire it up. I figure I need to strop it to a similar pall or wood platform Euro Pall as you have there. The explotions if come...inside the cylinder...I hope will re deliver oil to cranck bearings and if I lucky...it will go from there he he. Cool saws ! :-) I have some ordinary...if i can call it that...blue Zip saws. Or two...running...

What fuel mix do you use for these old saws? The one I have calls for a 1/2 pint SAE 30 non detergent to 1 gallon of gas. There has to be a more modern mixture with 2 stroke oil.

The age old question. Everyone's got their opinion on this. I don't have one. Some guys just go with a good quality oil at 40:1 or 32:1. Some guys do a rain dance, buy oil only from a specific origin and mix gypsy tears in it. Relatively unimportant for my usage, I don't really "run" these saws or put them to work. Just take em out and start em every now and again. Usually no load or cutting with the older stuff.

I’ve never seen anyone have an issue running these old saws on 32:1 with a modern mix oil. The old 30wt didn’t stay mixed well and would separate that’s why you’d see all the old guys shaking cans and saws before starting the day.
