Hot take: adding voice acting to pokemon absolutely would not add shit to the games. If anything it makes development harder considering pokemon is translated into about 14 languages
I politely disagree. I believe making the main voices remain Japanese but adding translations in all regional languages is the way to go. There are tons of RPGs that do this. It wouldn't take much effort aside from finding the right Japanese voice cast.
So the flame wars begin!! If they added english + JP voice acting that would suffice for majority, and I'm sure they will incorporate it eventually in one of their games.
@@Gameproducer6 here's the thing, you expect Pokémon fans all over the world to settle for 2 languages. And besides the fine people that watch this channel, the pokemon community is arguably more toxic than that of even league of legends. Nothing is ever enough for them
I’ve always viewed Pokémon as a mute game. I think it would miss the mark if voice was added, especially with the deaf community. As it is right now, the only real noises in a game is the background music and Pokémon cries. Though those noise’s definitely add to the experience of the battle, it is not pertinent for the game’s experience. On a different note, I think I would get rather annoyed hearing dialogue over the music. Maybe some vocal grunts would be tolerable, but voice acting should not be in the games.
@@NightwiII and yet Breath of the Wild managed it just fine. The only time characters would speak would be in cut scenes, it wouldn't be a fully voiced game. you can always turn off character voices or lower them if you want to hear the music. It's literally a non-issue.
Hot take: the gimmicks are not interesting any more. Id rather develop mechanics like mega evolution or z moves than get news one each gen especially since they dont matter since it'll be replaced and never revisited
Interesting take! I think dynamaxing was a bit too overwhelming, but I am liking terrastilisation way more in gen 9. The only problem with megas was that not enough weaker pokemon got one, and Z-moves were just once off move boosters.
@Gameproducer6 I agree that megas needed to be tweaked and Tera is a fantastic new game mechanic. I only wish we could see them evolve past one gen and change with the games
@@Gameproducer6 Found my self pausing every couple minutes to savor it. Thank you again for what you do! Also, can you point me to how to setup a nuzlocke randomizer? (Its cool if thats tedious!)
I agree with Joe. I don’t like mega evolution or any other battle gimmick. For Trump, Empoleon is the best water type but I don’t mind Lumineon. But Obama with a massive L take about Dexit. It’s not about all the Pokémon being in the wild, it’s about all of them being in the game so you can trade them. Also, the newer games aren’t polished anyway so I don’t think programming all of them would have made a difference. Also, wtf does Joe do with a Skrelp!
Hot take: I don't care for shiny hunting. If I find one, cool, but I don't go out of my way for it. I only like the ones that are obviously different too.
I actually agree to some extent. For legendaries and statics it isn’t the worst, but for wild encounter where the chance is reduced even further? Yeah I hate that!! The modern games make it much easier to be fair, but damn it can be a pain to hunt for them!!
Maybe this isn't too hot of a take, but I don't think the fairy type was necessary or good to add in gen 6. Yes, gen 4 and 5 might have had a dragon problem. Checks to dragons already existed. They could've came out with some good Ice 'mons. Maybe they could've tweaked what dragons resist/are weak to. I don't think savaging the normal type to make "normal type but pink" was the best way to handle it. It also really did some damage to typing glance value when it comes to new pokemon. Being able to tell what type a Pokemon is just by looking at it was already not so great during gen 5, but now that anything can be a Fairy you really can't tell anymore. Whimsicott's a half-fairy now. Comfey? This keychain made of flowers? Pure fairy type, not even half-grass. Dedenne, this classic electric rat, resists fighting and dark moves. Klefki, Granbull, Marill, Mimikyu, Gardevoir, all fairies. How can you tell before you've caught one? You've just gotta know or have bulbadex open, and I think that makes the games worse.
Wow sounds like a hot take to me!! I haven't met many people who outright dislike the fairy typing. I wasn't too sure how it would settle either of course when Gen 6 kicked off, but very soon it became very powerful for it's dragon immunity. I kinda like how it turned out, and to be honest I wish we got a fairy pseudo legendary and a dragon pseudo in the same generation that were like rivals to each other. I think it's balanced enough now with the introduction of newer mons that are very obviously fairy types, but I can see why you would have an issue with pre-existing mons.
Honestly agree on the fairy typing when it comes to the type chart. When fairy was added it felt like type matchups stopped making sense, and a lot of Pokémon didn’t have designs that matched their types. I couldn’t name the full type of a single ultra beast bar buzzwole for example.
I totally agree. I’m not a fan of the fairy type either. I think it was unnecessary. Could have focused on making more better ice types or tweaking dragon types
I think Pokémon should've kept the 2D gameplay. While I do like the 3D models in Gen 5 specifically, most of the newer models just sap the life from the Pokémon
Very fair, the 2D sprites are full of character and the posing looks insane!! Then the 3D models just ruined a lot of great monsters.... Typhlosion anyone?
Legends Arceus was kinda mid. While it did bring something new to the table and it introduced one of the greatest twist villains I could ever have wished for, it just didn't nab me the way it did others. Yes, exploring ancient Sinnoh is cool and I do love me some mythology, I think the mythos of the pokemon world is interesting, the game just didn't do it for me. It was empty, boring, lifeless at points and some of the areas were just not very pretty to look at. Despite that, I will say it was better at launch than SV ever were lol. This also extends to BDSP, I believe that these games were made to push Legends Arceus, and in doing so, tarnishes the originals. I mean, when they said faithful remake, they meant it. They even brought back tweaking, which I find hilarious. Dexit was a great decision. I was mad at it at first and then I realized that the last Pokedex I had completed was Black 2 and it was 649 Pokemon which were the hardest to obtain. Limiting the Pokemon in the Game to 400 not only lets you use Mons you never would, but makes completion easier. Violet was the first Pokedex I completed in years. My final hot take is that Ultra Sun and Moon should have been the only Sun and Moon. Why? because they are just better. A lot of people hate USUM for the sole reason that it feels like a retread of Sun and Moon, and I agree. But if we got USUM instead, I think they would have been much better received. Not only do we get more unique Z-Moves, but the lore is expanded and each Ultra beast is given a dimension rather than just encountering them in the grass. Rainbow Rocket however, was the dumbest thing ever and would have been cool if it wasn't overly saturating the reveal trailers. I think if they didn't showcase it at all and left it in as a surprise, more people would have liked it. They also should have kept Anabel, not only to deal with the UBs, but to team up with Looker to investigate the reports of Team RR. Sorry for the long comment lol
Don't apologize, these comment are my fave!! Legends could definitely swing and miss in a lot of different areas, but overall I really did enjoy it for some reason I can't even put my finger on. I caught every mon including Arceus and it didn't even feel like a chore for me. Some areas definitely felt like a barren wasteland, but it's a game I can definitely see myself replaying someday. Dexit's completion is the main reason I am for it also. Even though I wasn't a fan of shield, I noticed that by just catching Pokemon throughout the game's story and playing for fun, the pokedex was so full I ended up completing it a few days later just for the heck of it!! USUM being the only gen 7 games definitely isn't a bad take. I wish them as sequels were either different enough of S/M initially were totally different because playing them both back to back when they came out just drove a lot of people away from the games I feel. I play USUM years later when I forgotten most of my moon adventure, and I loved it because it had so much content in it.
@@Gameproducer6 That was my main issue with PLA. While it was fun, there was a lot left to be desired for me. I can definitely see myself replaying it in a few months, but not something I would constantly replay. I actually really liked Shield, the story was meh but the actual journey was fun! I managed to almost finish my Pokedex in that game as well, just by normal play, which is great. I'm just glad I no longer need like 9 games to finish one Pokedex like the days of old lol. USUM being sequels would have been neat. I personally don't think another sequel for a main series game will happen, and it'll remain a Gen 5 quirk, USUM expanding the story and adding things definitely did make it feel like a sequel. I'm glad you like super long comments haha. Sometimes I feel like I write too much ;.;
@@Gameproducer6 It's gonna sounds salty but it's a feature that comes back often and I just have 0 interest in it. I think the trainers have great designs as is so I don't need to change them. Meanwhile actual gameplay features that were great additions are just lost on older games.
My hot take- the physical/special split and its consequences have been a disaster for mankind. The split, as well as pumping in hundreds of held items and "gotcha" moves, ruined the fun of Pokémon for me. To this day I only play gens 1-3 (and sometimes 4), because I'm nostalgic for the simplicity of not needing an encyclopedia to play the game.
Damn this is one of the hottest takes I've seen so far!!! I do think there is a certain charm to having types being specifically special or physical, but there are a lot of pokemon that it ruined as a result. At least post gen 2 sneasel and absol were usable!!
My hot take opinion is that I dislike mega evolutions, gigantomaxing, or really any new gen-specific gimmicks like Z moves past gen 4. I just wish Pokémon focused more on new Pokémon, or regional evolutions / variants of old Pokémon. And focused more on world building or if they added difficulty modes or massive multiplayer tournaments for rewards that would be cool.
I somewhat agree. Terrastilizing is one of the best mechanics in Pokemon. It's versatility and usage is beyond that of anything we had seen before. One of the best parts of it is that everyone can use it!
My hot take? Ash makes the anime bad. And now that he is gone in the new season, it might be really good. I can respect the journey that Ash is on, and I can respect that people like him. But the writing that went into him is frustrating at best. He wins so many battles that he has no business winning, and then loses battles he should have won. Ash VS Gary - Charizard vs Blastoise. Nothing but plot armor bs in this battle. Charizard gets hit by hydro pump, skull bash, bite and is basically completely fine. Blastoise takes 1 seismic toss and is down and out. Ash VS Winona - Swellow vs Swellow.. So much.... urgh. Ash's swellow takes a pummeling over and over but hangs in there. Ash then figures out one cool combination and wins in a single hit. I won't list more examples, but that is the problem.
I kind of understand this!! I think he definitely stood as the MC for too long. His journey could have ended with a win in B/W or Kalos and that would've been fine. I haven't seen the new anime yet but I've heard people are enjoying it? I'm glad the show took that risk, because I remember telling my friends Ash was leaving the anime and they would say something like "Wait, I haven't watched it in like 20 years, he is still the main character??".
hot take pokémon games should stick to those pixel sprites they started with (Pref like in black & white) The 3d models look off colorwise Digimon>pokémon any day
Hot take: Beedrill is underrated af in red. I tried beedrill once in my red playthrough it was amazing, but the pog moment was when beedrill sweeped 3rd elite4 members team. Since then i have loved beedrill
Hot take: Pikachu is not worth being the star of Pokémon. Pikachu is only well known due to it being the main character’s main from the anime. If you play the games, the Pokémon is either forgotten about or a quick catch for the dex or with gen 7, caught for the fairy electric raichu. It is only decent when it has its special item (Light ball, which was only made because it is the face of Pokémon), otherwise it gets sacked in every battle that’s not water themed.
I've seen many mixed opinions on Pikachu and those points are very valid!! I think it's hilarious how he is portrayed in Smash Bros. I think he has so much character and is very unique, but that doesn't translate to his games at all!!
My hot take is that Garbodor has a better design than Muk and Weezing. I'm not saying Garbodor is a better Pokémon, but don't say they have a better designd when they are both just purple shapes. Garboder at least has more than one colour.
@@Gameproducer6 Nah man I, too, get mixed up about it sometimes. Hope to see Steven defeated by our U.S. presidents in this play through haha. Gen 3 is my favorite and I'm so so happy these videos exist. ❤️
My hot take is that regional variants are one of the dumbest and laziest things I’ve seen a game do. U made a new design, new type, and new concept so why is it not just a new Pokémon
Interesting!! I like the fact it takes a pre-existing Pokemon and gives it more utility or actual use, but my favorite ones are the ones that gain evolutions also. Obstagoon and Sirfetch'd are brilliant editions on top of their new regional pre-evos, so I feel like that's the best of both worlds!
Joes hot take is rough, though he does have a point. Instead of getting rid of the megas it should have been expanded instead of just being given out to all the fan service mons. There is no world in which garchomp needed a mega but if they had been given to more mons that fell off it would have been so much more balanced. Sure, give some of the favourites a mega, i get why they did it, but they could have used it to balence the meta instead of narrowing it. Tl;dr it was and still is a good idea, it was just poorly implimented, but with gamefreak what else can you expect from them
As far as Barack's take, i do agree but i get why people are mad. Black and white waited until the post game to bring the national dex, and i believe gen 3 did as well and they didnt get the same shit, but those games were some of the best they ever made and the quality was good enough where the decision hardly phased people. S&S didnt have that quality, AND made cuts, so it felt like a net loss
Yes! They so should have given megas to the lesser popular mons, that would've given them much better versatility! The idea was so cool and unique considering you had to give up your held item for the mechanic, which is a massive downside given how powerful some sets are with the right choice item or leftys. Unfortunately as you say, it wasn't really implemented well! Your point about gen 5 is great, I never thought about that!! Even though the national dex is held until post game, the main adventure still feels more polished and fleshed out that S&S. That also be because of the overworld design? I love the adventurous / hidden areas of gen 4 + 5. Makes exploring well worth it!
I wasn't even paying attention to that lmao 2 are off the list waiting for the other 2 and eclipse wyvern to get unbanned so i can play my lightsworn rulers again
@@Darkfox129 Nah, you can't bring back Eclipse. This coming from a Dragon Link Player. It alongside Regained and the Bystials would make Dragon Link the best Deck ever.
QOTD: Pokemon Firered and Leafgreen was the best pokemon remake ever made. All the best from the OGs minus a lot of garbage(that while they are niche and fun when i wanna play yellow) that cluttered gen 1 plus the sevii islands being the closest to the orange islands. It was the first way I played Kanto so my bias is there but it feels so great even today.
Fire red was my first Pokémon game, and it’s a great one to start with. It’s the best version of Gen 1, and the sprites always looks so sick in those games!
I stopped watching around episode 6 and only getting back into it now, but this is good content! Also, Joe completely shut Obama down with that Gen 6 being less glitchy but having more Pokemon than Scarlet and Violet, and that's probably gonna be my new argument against gen 9 defenders when they talk about the game being polished less because they focused on the Pokemon.
Also my hot take for the vid is: Gen 5 was and always will be the peak of Pokemon. The story and characters are borderline the most memorable, barring Gen 3 and 4 as runners-up, and the Pokemon designs were and still are some of the best in Pokemon history. The PvP scene was more-than-likely the best it ever was, as Gen 5 was a great experimental phase for allowing players to strategize and make interesting team combinations not really seen in the past or future installments. The only true issue that people had with Black and White (not so much Black/White 2) is that they could not get their precious gen 1-4 Pokemon before the post-game. What people fail to realize is this was Nintendo testing the community, trying to see which Pokemon people enjoy using or just having in an installment of Pokemon. Look no further than Gen 6, where they outright hand you a Kanto starter and it gets a new (albeit game-shattering) gimmick form. Gen 5 was also likely the most unforgiving a Pokemon game has ever been. They rarely walk you through anything, leaving you to figure it out by yourself with very few pointers in the right direction, and the battles were really tough but you never really felt cheated on a death if you lost (at least I didn't). That's where I'm going to stop this rant of mine. Thanks for reading this and if you made it to the end of this then you deserve a cookie and a good week, at least to me! It's ok if you disagree with me on anything here, opinions exist for a reason and it's perfectly fine to not agree with anything I said.
I'm glad you have plenty of episodes to catch up on!!! Gen 5 was definitely a mixed bag for most people but damn, it was so fun every playthrough. Maybe it's the variety of different types of pokemon they made available, even for BW1 I loved the team variety available. Your opinion is very valid and I love it !!! Thanks for such a wonderful comment!!
Omega evolution was fine, I would have preferred them to be more like evo stones and permanently take the mega form. However my hot take is basically an new mechanic after omega is garbage, its unnecessary. Z moves, gigantimax and so forth, They took the phrase "if it aint broke dont fix it" and shite all over it. Pokemon sells and they couldve made the same games over and over with different Pokemon and different regions and stories and the community still wouldve eaten it up. I hate everything after 6 with a passion because of the garbage "QOL" perks that keep coming out. Not to mention the pokemone keep getting worse and worse. After gen 4 each generation of pokemon had less and less creative creatures. And scarlet and violet? Worst designed pokemon of aby generation period. I shudder to think of what the next gen has in store.
Wow that is a hot take and a half!!! I actually think the designs from scarlet and violet are pretty good!! I do agree that they shouldn’t need to add new mechanics every generation, and if they focused on a real adventure and massive areas to explore and maybe incorporated more ways to roam around, it would be more interesting than doing the same gym format over and over.
@Gameproducer6 I will say though, the multi-player from scarlet and violet was a breakthrough and would've made even the old gen cames way better. Thats about the only praise I can give the new games
I also like Lumineon, its a cute pokemon and I like its design. It may suck in competitive but for a play through it can be a fun mon to use if you want a more challenging time its a good pokemon to pick up
Here's my hot take: The comp scene has been stale for years now despite VGC's attempt to revitalize it with gimmicks such as allowing Ubers, and most standard teams are braindead and boring to use. Like I mentioned in my earlier comment, I haven't played comp (and the games in general) since SuMo, but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much.
I never got into VGC despite trying a few times, and your reasoning is exactly why. Groudon and Kyogre literally run that scene, so why would I bother playing in such a dominated meta? It gets stale after a while.
@@Gameproducer6 That was one of my biggest gripes right there. I never considered myself a champion, I could ladder pretty high on showdown and probably could've at least placed okay in tournaments, but I had so much fun with creative mixed tier teams and it actually helped me get better at reads. In this VGC situation, it's less "hey you can throw in an uber if you feel like it" and more "pick a primal or lose on turn 1" and that's just stale af.
Hot Take: Crystal is better than HgSs I stand by that opinion first the music is better in crystal 2nd the story feels more relatable since the legendaries arent obbligatory 3rd the sprites have a special charm to them and the game feels ahead of its time with all that content in one cartridge i feel like game freak really put their all in crystal since they put so much content in one single cartridge at the time it almost didnt fit the game
This is a spicy one!! I wonder how many others agree. I personally do think each game has it's pros and cons. I don't have any nostalgia for crystal, but it definitely feels like one of the most polished Pokemon games ever made!
Even platinum?? I still love Gen 4. Past the slowness which makes me take in and enjoy the journey tbh, the amount of additions is absolutely insane in the Sinnoh region.
On my first playthrough my Torterra one-shot most of Cynthia's pokemon with Wood Hammer and Earthquake so I never thought that she was considered hard until I saw stuff online about it.
Important question, did you play platinum or D/P first? When I first got diamond, I could not beat Cynthia for like 2 weeks it took me forever to figure out how to beat the E4! Plat definitely made the experience easier.
My hottake is that Farfetch'd is an absolute legend and not appreciated enough. Im sure same can be said for many pokemon but, god damn Farfetch'd is a goofy amazing design. And another thing, the galarian forms didn't help for me, they look ugly but atleast they kept the goofy side of my duck friend. There should be a Farfetch'd revolution in the next pokemon game.
Hot take: gen 5 (in my opinion) is the worse gen. Starters are a joke and rode the "fire/fighting" starter type again, the story was very mid, a lot of the mon designs seemed half ass/uncreative, the battle music was annoying and the trio legendaries are very forgetful. I'm sorry Papi, but it is what it is 😮
Damn that is hot!!! Gen 5 grew on me with time I gotta say. Upon release, I was so confused on what I was playing. It felt like a rom hack more than anything. But as time went on, I started to understand why people love this gen!
Hot take Gen 9 is not only a good generation it is the best generation yea there are graphical fuck ups like really big ones however it has absolutely so much QOL stuff no HMs freely swap in and out moves in spite of the performance issues the game is very nice to look at the Pokémon look fantastic when battling
Hot Take: Gen 2 games were the best pokemon games at the time they came out. I mean... 16 medals, 2 regions, and they changed a lot of things after Gen 1, like day/night, male/female pokemon, held items, introduced steel and dark types. And the list goes on.
I completely agree, the only really bad things are the balls from Kurt which are useless most part + some missing things in Kanto but I agree they were really great at the time
Insane take! Gen 3 is just a well balanced and polished gen I feel. Gen 1 fans were back in the hype with remakes, abilities were introduced, emeralds animations went crazy and Hoenn is a pretty mystical region!
@@Gameproducer6 I’m gonna try to give them a genuine go again. My first proper games were in gen 4 so I never got to experience gen 3 until like the remakes came out.
My hot take: BDSP weren’t that bad. They aren’t better than platinum but the improvements to the underground were very welcome, as were the TMs. I mean at the end of the day, it’s not like you would deviate your team much in the long run when playing gen4. The elite 4 and Cynthia were welcome challenges and I don’t mind the shared exp.
I agree, there were way more quality-of-life improvements than I expected. The only thing I really dislike in BDSP is the friendship system in battles, it makes battles take 5 times longer since my pokemon always jump around and have dialogue at the start of every battle, every single time the enemy faints, every single time I do a crit, every single time I get to low health, and so on. I know this was also in other games too but not to this extent.
Great opinion I agree!! BDSP was pretty much a carbon copy of gen 4, and that’s a great thing!! Diamond and Pearl on their own were great games, and I didn’t expect the platinum treatment when it came to the remakes. The only issue was fire type availability in Sinnoh, which unfortunately carried over but that’s a small price to pay! The friendship mechanic was definitely frustrating as the games would’ve been a perfect difficulty without it, but hey what can you do!
@@Gameproducer6 people seem to want to complain about they type or the pokemon, but in this age of pokemon it’s not hard to breed pokemon and same them for another playthrough. I do it all the time. And these are very similar to the old games, which is true but people don’t give it enough credit for not only staying faithful, but also keeping HMs without needing it to be on any Pokémon. What an improvement. I will still play platinum more but never play OG diamond and pearl
The weather wars were definitely hit and miss for some people! But yeah if I were you I would go into hiding because the black and white fans don't hold back!
My hot take: I think all pokemon should have a friendship evolution. It demands the player to make as little mistake as possible so that your mons won't faint and have their friendship reduced. It's also very satisfying knowing that your party gets stronger with love and care.
