We'll Todd, another awesome video on a piece of land that people would have never gotten to see or even known about without your history an story telling video. What a beautiful place to spend the day just out in the woods taken it all in. A place that has seen many a day of people long ago working the land just to survive an provide for there families. It has to be a wonderful feeling, to just be in the presence of the land an to think about what all the settlers did an what went on in the days of all there lives. It just don't get any better then that. An you guys found some pretty cool relics of the old home places. An some evidence of civil war soliders camping or passing through that land during there battles. If one could only go back in time just to see it all take place. Thanks again Todd for all your videos of the history of the permissions an the stories they tell. An to johnny, sorry to hear of your father passing. I'm sure he's in a better place now. That's one event that we all will face one day on this old Earth. We seem to never take the time to realize we are just passing through on a short time scedule on this old world. As many have done before us in the years that have passed bye. That's why everyone needs to enjoy everyday of life to its fullest, with family and friends as often as we can. Have a wonderful an memoriable weekend. Catch you on your next adventure. As always safe and happy hunting/digging.😁👍👍

Thanks Richard for the comment. I’m sure Johnny will see it. The old pioneer road went up past these houses and I’m sure there were older houses there but it was 2200 acres and we wanted to hit what we knew first. It was a great fall day out.

Hey Jeff I wish I came across more of them too and I'm amazed at how many there are still around here but it seems they are on their last leg. I don't care if I don't find anything of value, I just am honored the owners allow me to detect these old sites. I bet there are some out there you just have to research if anything like that is available in your area.

@@AppalachianHistoryDetectives Todd you are probably right. I mainly hunt Civil War sites but would hunt wherever possible. I just love the old buildings. I also wanted to express my sympathies to Johnny. It is tough losing someone. Lots of questions and few answers. Grief counseling helps

Glad you enjoyed it! I wonder how the bottle got in there or how long it was in there. Such a surprise find. All things considering the finds surprised me too. I wish I could have it mowed as our search area was so small, but we still did pretty good.

Thanks Roelf. These old places are neat and fading fast into the history books. It is sad seeing these old places finally giving up and going back into the ground. I know Johnny reads through these...he won't comment, but he does read them and will appreciate your note.

Todd, On our farm back in New Jersey, there was a black walnut tree at the side of our driveway. I used to climb up the drooping branches, as a kid ,and I took the still green fruits ,put them in a feed sack and let them ripen to the black stain stage. I used to break open the nuts with a couple of bricks, but there wasn't much meat, I often had stained fingers. That was a wonderful time:) Thanks for the memories, Cheers, Rik
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives 2 года назад
Hey Rik, I too have fond memories of Black Walnut cracking as a kid. My mom would only use these in cookies, so we would take a drive in the country where we knew these trees were and collect them, dry them on newspaper and crack them with bricks. It would take all day to get a sandwich baggy full and my hands would be so stained that it wouldn't come out for a week or more and my classmates would make fun of me. I planted one 12 years ago, and this season was the first time it has produced nuts. They are a slow growing tree but I find these at many of my old home sites so I know they were valued.

Thanks Kay. I know the name See is very uncommon, but there was a Clyde See over the Agriculture Department in Charleston WV at one time and he was a lifelong West Virginian. It would be interesting to learn if he was from that area of our detection. The cemetery on the hill was the See family cemetery.

Todd, I think that first escution plate you found with the elongated hole is actually off an old wooden spirit level. Clean it up and you might find the makers name stamped into it like Stanley or Disston .

Hello from Knoxville Tennessee. That’s such an amazing place so beautiful. I believe there has to be a lot of relics still in the ground for you to find. I’m trying to get a permission on some property that was used for cock fighting from the late 1890s to around 1960s. Those dates are approximate. I think it would be fun to check it out and see. Stay safe and I’ll keep watching.
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives

Very interesting. I know they have cock fighting in KY, at least when I was in college. Sounds like an interesting. place to check out. I definitely believe there is a ton more stuff here at this house, but the grass is simply too brushy to be able to swing. I would love for someone near there cut it for us, but I was thrilled to find what we did for sure.

@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives 2 года назад
You know that crossed my mind as soon as I was editing the video, why didn't I mention that? My mom had us kids crack the black walnuts with a hammer or brick and the nut inside was so hard to get out but the taste is unlike any nut and full of flavor. My wife has never tasted one and I have a Black Walnut tree in my yard that produced for the first time ever this year....I need to go and collect them and have her try it out.
