By that logic, I can keep a calendar from 1998 on my wall in case the police come with a search warrant, simply point to that calendar when they arrive, and say, "ah hah, this isn't enforceable yet!"
@luketurner314
@luketurner314 Месяц назад
Not sure about that, but you can definitely reuse a calendar every 28 years. This is because the calendar year can start on one of seven days of the week and is either a leap year or not, giving you 14 possible calendars. However, since leap years are every 4 years (roughly, let's not get too technical here), the cycle repeats every 28 years (7 days of the week times the 4-year leap year cycle). Feel free to confirm this yourself with whichever calendar app you like

In the days before the internet, clocks weren’t automatically adjusted to an official time, and so there was a lot more uncertainty about the exact time. It wasn’t unusual for every person in a room to be wearing a wristwatch with a slightly different time, with variations of up to 5 minutes, or even more. Therefore; it was plausible that you would think that it was one minute past the time that the diner should be closed, and they could point to a clock and say “Not by my clock!” There isn’t that level of uncertainty regarding the day, month or year, and there never has been.

And honestly, if your laws depend on judging time to the second and something may or may not be legal depending on which clock you use, it sounds like you have shitty laws.

How can the authorities prove what exact *second* of the week they were closed? What is the definition of closed? All lights off? Not serving food? So many "what ifs" with a law like this that probably just said something like "no 24-hour restaurants."

The always late thing is an issue I struggle with, and you can try and make any kind of arrangement or plan to try to account for it, and I will still be late. It's an actual thing that people struggle with, except that most people who struggle with it don't realize it's a thing. It's called Time Blindness, and it's very much an ADHD thing. "Time blindness is the inability to sense the passing of time and it can make nearly every aspect of a person's life more difficult. The important thing to understand is that it's more like a sensory issue, not an intentional disregard for time." A good example is whenever my wife or I try to guess the time, she will always be correct within a few minutes, whereas my guesses can be out by hours. "I think it's 6pm", looks at clock, it's midnight.

In the UK opening hours on a Sunday are restricted. But shops have worked out you can let customers in to "browse" a half hour before they're allowed to buy anything... So maybe you don't need to kick anyone out, just not serve anyone for a minute and you're good.
