In today's Spotlight on NOW, Kimberly De Souza chats with the Royal Prince of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Poku Agyeman about the Kingdom's visit to Trinidad & Tobago.
They should be pushing their trini heritage. Their African heritage allowed their ancestors to be sold like goods into slavery hell and to top that off never even inquire about how they are doing for centuries. There is no need to be lined up exalting their presence in trinidad. They are not heroes by any stretch of the imagination. They should be praising us instead.

For context, I am incredulous because when I visited Tobago in 2011, I attended a free cultural festival that seemed to make an effort to connect Tobago’s history to that of West Africa, celebrating both cultures. Also, my TT grandmother is very proud of her African heritage, travels often to Ghana, takes other people on visits and started a school in East Legon. Of course this is only my limited experience. That’s why I’m curious what informs your perspective, if you feel comfortable sharing.

Source: I LIVE in trinidad and tobago. Lived Arouca first, moved to Scarborough tobago, then Cunupia then Diego Martin then Tunapuna. It's the same with them everywhere except for tobago which hosts best village which is admittedly very very good. I'm organising to move to toco soon to get away from all the immigrants flooding central and south trinidad. Tobago is nice but it doesn't have much job prospects compared to trinidad. Trinidadian blacks are more concerned and caught up with consumerism and outrageous nonsense that passes off as bling. Tobagonian blacks I guess are far more afro centric. That's my nuanced perspective based on first hand experience which spans over 20 years as a native in this country. Cheers.

Asante Is Encompass with Akwamu, Kwaman, Bono, Nzima Kotoko, Ewe, Gonja, Banda, Dagomba. I knw these were the Main Tribes that forms the Asanteman or the Asante Nations. This is the reason ASANTE is not a Tribe but a Group of Tribes forming one Nation as one people.
You are right, but it was this white man who came to convinced other tribes to separate themselves from Ashanti to reduce the population of Ashantis. And also their intention was to fight Ashantis so that they can overcome them. But God been so good they couldn't succeed.

When Akwamu was defeated by the collective battle waged by the Danes with the help of Akuapim, Ga, Guans and the Akyem, the next Akan super power was Adansi. When the Adansis were defeated by Denkyera, they had all the culture and traditions at their feet. When finally the Asanteman arise to fame and power after defeating Denkyera, Asante has steadfastly lived up to the test of time and have since its rise to power has been the custodians of our culture and traditions. During the reign of Denkyera the power of our culture and traditions was at their fingertips and that’s why King Osei Tutu l went to get lessons from the Denkyera palace
His forebears who called themselves Kings were barbaric and the lowest at the bottom of civilization. They were engrossed in mass human sacrifices to their manes, in addition to repugnant slave trading and panyarring of natives of the then Gold Coast. Even when such barbaric acts were abolished, the Ashanti Kingdom continued to exchange slaves for mustery and gun power for their blood thirsty Kotoko war council. The children of the barbaric Kings had to be educated under western order. Article 9 of the treaty of peace concluded on September 7th, 1817 expressly stated that: 9. The Kings agree to commit their children to the care of the Governor-in-Chief, for education at Cape Coast Castle, in the full confidence of the good intentions of the British Government and of the benefits to be derived there- from.
@RA-fb5sz In 1844, Commander Hill, Royal Navy (R.N)., was appointed governor. He succeeded Mr. Maclean who became a judicial assessor. In 1847, Mr. Maclean died. He was held in High Honour by the entire Gold Coast, including the Ashanti nation. One of the first steps Commander Hill took as the Governor of the then Gold was to enter into a treaty with the chiefs of some of the protected tribes, that is, tribes under the Guns of the British Forts. The main aim of the treaty was to clearly define their position and bring the protected tribes more under control. Why did the British government decide to protect these tribes? Article 2 of this treaty, which is dated March 6th, 1844, expressly states that "Human sacrifices, and other barbarous customs, such as panyarring, are abominations and contrary to law." Further, Article 3 of the treaty states that: " Murders, robberies, and other crimes and offences will be tried and inquired of before the Queen's judicial office and the chiefs of the district, moulding the customs of the country to the general principles of British law." Commander Hill resigned and was succeeded by Commander Winniett, RN. One of the mandates he received from the British government was to use every avenue to available to him to put an end to human sacrifices beyond the Protectorate. On 28th September 1848, he left Cape Coast escorted by the 1st West India Regiment, where he proceeded to Kumasi in an effort to achieve this mission. Unfortunately, Commander Winniett could not achieve this object although he was accompanied by Mr. Freeman, the Wesleyanmissionary. He left Kumasi on 26th October 1848 .
What barbarism didn't the Europeans show till they grew out of it. When they went on their so called crusades in Europe and conquering of lands in the America's, we read about the sort of wickedness and Barbarism that went on . Don't single out ASHANTI
There are no states in ghana... there are former states. Ghana is a Republic. You can't have a state or kingdom within a Republic when it's not a constitutional monarchy... let's correct this errors.

Even freed black slaves in America one time became slave owners themselves. After suffering the same feat they made sure to enslave their own race to serve them. That is the nature of humans, quite unfortunate.
@@Asd-vk7pr Ashanti Empire traded a lot of slaves, the europeans couldn't have kidnapped millions of slaves by themselves. Stop denying it and own up to what happened in the past. Constantly at war did not prevent them from selling slaves.

Ashanti empire extended because of it's style of adding any state they conquered as part and parcel of the Ashanti empire. Why would they give their people or newly added states as slaves. Who would they sell the slaves to? The British they were fighting over 100 years with? Ashanti empire had prisoners of war who were made to serve the Ashanti empire? The Ashanti empire was already in rich in gold 🙄
