My knees hurt just watching this…someone needs to sponsor this lady with a tiller. Bet you could perform miracles with it and generate mega sales for them too💕. I felt your frustration with the weeds, makes my tiny garden problems seem very insignificant. Thanks for inviting us into your home and life!
@FarmersWifeHomestead

It is hard work but worth it, I wouldn't trade it for anything, one day I will get on top of it haha. I have been looking at a tiller, but they are far out of my budget currently. A sponsor would be great though! 😊

@@carolgeurts8075 if you mulch as per Charles Dowding virtually no weeds to pull I tamed rampant kikuyu with this method. I have 1 artificial hip and another due. I sit on a little stool or on the ground to garden. When I had my nursery business I had a 93 year old who still gardened said she must look a sight hanging off her walker !😆

Hard work is good work 😉….just don’t overdo it….loving hearing the sound & songs of the farmyard ☺️ Here in the North I’m working towards putting our garden and yard to bed for the winter …always feels like tucking my kids into bed to keep them safe and warm throughout the winter’s night…. we’re having a patch of just glorious autumn days & I’m trying to savor each and every one of them before the north wind finds its way to us & snows come ….good luck with your garden journey….stay well & take care ❤

Stacey, have you tried to use heavy duty sun screen to stop getting hives from you meds while out in the sun? Some medication information sheets suggest it. My sister has the same reaction with here meds and always forgets sunscreen when the sun comes out for the first time after winter. As for the strawberry beds, try putting down several layers of newspaper (if you can get ahold of some) or cardboard to suppress the weeds. You can put it down now and the weeds should get smothered out with very little effort. It's not very pretty, but affective.

Hi there Your far. looks so green & lush. However weeds do grow too. The diffinition of a weed is "a plant growing in the wrong place." So you have lush green grass growing on the farm & lush green grass-weeds growing in your garden. We could easily see the amount of work you have done on your garden. You did a lot of work today. Don't beat yourself up about it -one can easily see the progress!

Manky old wool blankets with holes cut in for the strawberries. You can find wool blankets dt op shops, but they're hellish expensive in good condition. They sometimes have mank old ones for next to nothing. Also old carpet works well, but check that it doesn't have acrylic warps in it, because those are hellish in the garden.

I'm finding raised beds are so much easier to maintain. The cardboard layer keeps the weeds out and thick mulch (seriously envious of your dags!) means that watering is far more effective and easier. Just put in one at a time. Or consider the straw bale gardening if you have any leftover or manky bales on hand.

As someone who is bone on bone in one knee and the other not far behind I know all about getting things done early, then resting up to tackle dinner but there is no way I can garden. @@FarmersWifeHomestead If I had it in the barn like that, then I would definitely lay it down in my garden to keep the weeds at bay!! Cheaper than going out to buy bales of sugar cane to do the same job which is what my brother does. I used to put newspapers under my mulch when I had the bigger gardens but these days we don't get newspapers delivered anymore. Though if I was still able to garden I would use some of the many boxes that come in the post instead of paying to depose of them. Since we had the high winds come across the eastern side of Australia a few years ago, bringing the dust from the interior of the country, we are now growing weeds that like yours are a menace. It is so disheartening.

@@FarmersWifeHomestead happy to see you getting around better after the knee surgery. I can appreciate the frustration with the overgrown garden. Used to deal with massive amounts of blackberry bushes that are a major pest here thanks to the homesick Brits back in the mid-1800s, plus other invasive gifts. Had to laugh at the naughty chickens, Chelsea at LMR was calling hers "stinking chickens" when they were trying to dig up her freshly planted garlic beds.

Stacey, I'm exhausted just watching you going to war with all those weeds! Does your local high school have an agricultural program? Maybe one or two of those kids could give you a hand with your garden? A hands on learning experience for them as well as possible credits towards better grades. The person who mentioned a garden company sponsoring your efforts (and major RU-vid exposure for them!) with giving/lending a tiller, might be worth looking into. Any avenue is worth the effort to explore in order to make your life a little easier.

With your weeds U need a U standup but hoe that has a sharp point to it with a long handle...faster than sitting down...also I would put carboard down the rows then your wool stuff...does that let water through as I thought it is water resistance...U should know U are a farmer...I had same problem on place weed one end by the time got the other I would be starting again... Those bulbs look great but they do need splitting or cover them up with that beautiful black Soil... I would chicken wire the all of it now so U don't have too worry that goats eating your lillies...u really need to do fencing around all beds with gates at one end to protect them... Could U put Vics Vaper Rub on the wire to deter goats the smell and tasty it works for dogs...it want wash away but don't let it go your clothes as it hard to get off... U do alot of work on a farm day... Look into 'Welllnee' but patches on line guy up the road just started to use then and he 12hrs NO PAIN...U can tell us if they work... Love your farm and goats black on is cute wants his name etc and chooks...😂❤😂❤😂❤from Aussie 🇦🇺😊

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I really appreciate it! I have a bit of a plan to tackle the garden, but I need to be smart about it as I don't have a huge amount of time currently while I am away so much. It's just a bit of bad timing. The wool does an amazing job. I trailed it around my garlic bulbs last year and they were beautiful full bulbs compared to the ones without it. There are 4 pet goats and ALL of them are named Goatie lol. they are my stepdaughters.
