In this project I used a piece of scrap metal and a cheap hydraulic car lift 2 tons.
The whole construction can withstand more than two tons and can be upgraded easily to a powerful 20+ tons Hydraulic press simply by placing a bigger hydraulic car lift.
The conversion did in the hydraulic car lift was put to normal oil suction inlet a tube that reaches the top of the outer cylinder that works as oil tank. With this conversion the pump pumps hydraulic fluid when the hydraulic lift car is upside down.
This modification operates in almost all hydraulic car lift of this type.

You can buy one at Harbor Freight cheaper than what the material will cost you to build it .

Hey, great Video. I am currently building a press in a similar setup, just a bit taller and with a 12t jack. What would you say about the base of the press, did you bolt yours down to the ground? How big do I need to build the base? I dont want it to tilt, even when I max the jack out, on the other hand i dont want it to be unnecessarily big. What do you think, it you turn the handle 90 degrees to the frame, how likely is it to tilt with your base? Oh and by the way, Im pretty sure your frame wont hold 20 tons. At least not with calculation safetys. I use the same beams than you do, and at a span of 50cm mine is pretty much maxed out on bending tension with the 12t jack. Greetings!

Hey this turned out pretty nice! I wonder if you've run into many bearings that 2 Tons won't break? I kind of doubt it, never know though.

+ILTSYC Hello, Thank you for your comment. Indeed the metal parts that I used maybe is too strong for this construction. However I tried to do weldings same sturdy and compact. I have used professional press in other workshops that were 20+ tons of power and the metals were not as strong. So with confidently say that the whole construction can withstand at least 10+ applied force. Thank you again

Hey there! Your press looks awesome! I am also building a home made hay bale press and want to turn a 10 ton hydraulic press upside down. I have seen you disassemble the car lifter, but how did you exactly reverse it's function?

András Veres Hello and thank you for your comment... I am pleasure to help you in any questions you have. The modification of the hydraulic car lift is not difficult and does not require any special tools... During disassembly will notice that the whole system of committed by two cylinders which are one inside the other. The inner cylinder containing hydraulic piston and extends when increased internal oil pressure. The outer cylinder works as oil tank. At the bottom is the base and is integrated a manual oil pump. The pump is supplied with oil through a hole in the bottom of the oil tank (When cylinders are in place). The oil goes to oil import by gravity when the entire unit is upright. In the upside down position the oil does not reach the import of oil causing the pump to pull air and not working. What I did was simply to put to the oil import hole a tube which reaches to the other side of the oil tank so that when the entire unit is upside down, the pump draws oil through the tube I put on the other side of the tank. Yes, after you make some modifications is possible to work upside down.

@@annasbaba8663 You have to fit a tube to the oil inlet hole in order to suck the pump oil in reverse position. If you see the video after 1:00 you will see what I made... Thanks for watching!
