There is apparently a storyline where Doom and Stark are the ones who are roommates in university instead of Reid Richards and Doom. I guess the idea is that they'll play off of that storyline where Doom tricks Stark into helping him with a personal project that ends up being a mind switch and Doom takes Starks body and life and ends up doing whatever he wants while Stark as Doom, who after switching loses his memory of what happened, makes his way back up the scientific and social ladder to show his prowess in innovation like he would always end up doing, just because that's just how he is. The was a better explanation from another video I watched, but it seems like if this is how they are casting it, it seems like a fairly likely route they'd take, and just have him introduced from the multiverse as a shocking intro to the fans and the cast of The movie as well, to add a familiar face to a potential different and probable villain.
I can't deny that's an interesting take. However separating him from Reed entirely just to link him to Tony Stark is a retread of their earlier storylines. I.e. making Tony the creator of Ultron or making Tony the mentor to Peter Parker. It would unfortunately just be another recon that ties everything back to Tony. Something that I think has been done to death at this point.
Either it’s some kind of fake out or it’s just a cash grab. It’s sad to see such an amazing character absorbed by an RDJ cash grab that has to be some contrived multiverse explanation which seems to be the go to these days for Disney marvel. This also diminishes iron man’s death. So they’re ruining good things to make bad things. Hope it’s a fake out where doom disguises himself as Tony stark to manipulate someone instead and they actually have someone else in the chamber to be the real doom who is always playing 4D chess. We can only hope…
or you can wait and trust that RDJ and the team wouldn’t let this go bad. They have an amazingly good track record and a outstanding gotta at minimum wait till you watch it to throw it away
I'm hoping for some sort of Red Herring too but considering the amount of cash Marvel has to cough up just to have RDJ on board makes that possibility unlikely.
I also love RDJ and Doom both but yeah this is just not it and as good an actor as RDJ is I just don't feel Doom from him. That said I was one willing to wait on Ben's batman and Heath's Joker before judging but this is just off
I feel that this kind of casting is beyond just his ability as an actor. It's the fact he's so associated with Tony. That's what makes it so difficult to pretend he's actually Victor Von Doom. I want to be able to watch Doom on screen as his own character. For example, imagine if Heath Ledger had played Batman before signing on to play the Joker. That would completely change my ability to immerse myself in his performance regardless of how good it was.
