This is awesome and amazing powerful encouraging story. He went to school to study medicine, became medical doctor and practice medicine. Medical doctors are there to take care of human beings those in need of medical attention. Dr. Michael kindness and compassion towards Jaime, have brought change in the hospital and community. I tell you it wouldn’t be a problem, if it was a child of another race. I smh! I’m glad he didn’t think it out of order to saving a black child. All he saw was a human who was in need of help. We need more doctors like him.
I think the doctor didn't help the boy because he knew who's son he was. He helped because he had a professional conscience that relate to the Hippocratic oath. The doctor's 1st consideration should be to the needs

How can they fired Michael for helping a sick child? It makes no sense. I thought medical profession is to help sick peopl no matter the race or status. The hospital board is full of racists and discrimination against black race. The attitude of the hospital board to fired Michael deny the medical professional. They should never be on medical board. So what is important saving the life of a child or rules? If rules is important than the board members are in wrong place.
Before becoming a doctor, all the medical students take the oath to help the people related to medical needs. And this doctor is just doing it. The board members got fired, of course, but they should render their medical certificates too.

It did not add anything to the story, and if it was left off, it would not have taken anything away. Please do not randomly mention someone's race just to attract listeners. It diminishes the story and keeps race issues in the forefront, but in a negative way 😢
However, it is a primary form of racism to restrict access to health care to people of color. We don't need stories that use people as if only they are needy. History is better than this story because it shows the truth. Remember the black man who tried to take his child into a hospital in Chicago as he was bleeding from an accident ? They refused to help them, and when he fought to get his child in, they shot him dead. This is the real story.
I do not see any issue with mentioning the race of the boy in this story. In fact, I never notice that there is an issue in these stories rather than focus on the value and lesson of the message. These stories tell stories of different races not only the black people. Empathy knows no race. I value humanity regardless of skin colour. This is my opinion.

To me the story is more about the loyalty of the doctor to the Hippocratic oath. When the doctor assisted the boy in distress he didn't know who's son he was. I realize this is fiction, however, this is how we are treated in the States, especially poor people. Don't be an actual doctor! Don't save lives. And it's a Catholic Hospital of course.
